    The servers themselves are running Apache web server software on either the Linux or Solaris operating system.

    The opportunities are endless. They could put it into a waterproof box and let it run the fuel injection system in a low cost automobile -- made in India, of course. And with a little screen, they could combine it with a GPS receiver to make a "portable map" for fishermen and hikers. And maybe it could include a calendar and address book (all open source) and call it a "personal digital assistant". And games -- good gosh, the games it could play. Does Nintendo know about this?

    Software security firms announce software vulnerabilities. Insurance companies announce that people die in automobile crashes. Anti-war factions announce that soldiers and civilians die in Iraq. Conservatives announce that taxes are too high. Slashdot announces that MS sucks. MS announces that Windows has a lower TCO.

    Slashdot may claim to be "News for Nerds" but this stuff isn't news for anyone anymore. But I guess it doesn't matter.

    Instead of moaning, Mr. Krishnamurthy should write a brief and complete Rules of English Grammar for his friends across town. For reference, he can use Elements of English Grammar: Rules Explained Simply (310 pages) or Rules, Patterns and Words : Grammar and Lexis in English Language Teaching (Cambridge Language Teaching Library) (246 pages).

    English grammar is complex and often twisted in its logic. Its amazing that the MS Word grammar checker works so well.

    Complaining about "teaching to the test" is like complaining about having to "design to the spec" or "build to the print".

    If the subject is taught thoroughly and correctly, students will pass the test. If the students fail the test (while passing the course), it is the teachers and administrators who have failed, not the student.

    There are many commercial examples of "wireless power" as long as the quantity of power is very small and the device can be positioned next to a coil. Pacemaker batteries are inductively recharged.

    Ideal would be moving a laptop, tv or hedge trimmer around the office, house or yard and never plugging it in or changing a battery.
