However, to get most of the speed out of wind is not trivial, and some courses are better than others "premature optimization is the root of all evil" -- Donald Knuth
Get the thing sailing first. Get it sailing fast later.
Never mind that, if it is in a digital form, in no time at all someone will put it into a P2P system somewhere. That is not the same ! When I download it through P2P, I know the information is 'third hand', meaning it could be anything. When I read that a university put it on YouTube, I have some expectation that the content has a certain quality. Suppose someone wants to have a little fun and puts lectures of his won on YouTube pretending to be from UC Berkeley. If I were a university director I would want to stay away from any of that.
Actually I wouldn't want to be associated with YouTube at all, being a respected university, but maybe the general image of YouTube is different than mine. To me it's mostly a fun place for soccer replays, surfers and teenage popstars.
I fail to see how a university uploading videos that people want to watch is any different from anyone else uploading videos that people want to watch. I fail to see why a university wants to upload their material to YouTube. That way they no longer have any control over the material. Surely they could have hosted it on their own network.
As you browse the web, the Mash Maker toolbar displays buttons representing mashups that Mash Maker thinks you might want to apply to your current page. Mash Maker thinks ??
I prefer not to let my computer do my thinking for me. It's like asking it for a cup of tea. You know it's gonna give you something that is almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea !
Same here. I run 3.7 on my box and leave it that way. Particularly since upgrading seems like a bit of a pain(I have never done it, but the instructions for it sound like trouble). However, I do wonder whether not upgrading has security implications..
Well we have theories of what light actually is but none of it has been proven since the theories (particle vs waves) contradict. I believe that the wave/particle duality was actually eliminated with the advent of quantum electrodynamics in 1929. http://www.vega.org.uk/video/subseries/8
Light is neither particles (as in lumps of mass) nor waves (as in sound or watersurface waves). Trying to make things fit into concepts that we are familiar with, rather than to take them for what they are (or at least appear to be), is tempting but 'unscientific'.
Just as long as the system boots and still runs sshd after the upgrade. Then the rest is 'fixable'.
What kind of sensors do you have ? I would imagine:
- GPS
- Compass
- Wind direction
- Heeling angle
- Wind speed
- Winch positions
- Rudder position
From this information, it should be possible to write a pretty good 'software sailor'. It seems to me no AI is required. My software would:- Plot a course
- When the above course is to much into the wind, sail as close to it as possible.
- Make a tack when the target position comes at a certain angle.
- Use combination of wind speed, wind direction, and heeling angle to determine correct winch positions.
- Use a feedback control loop using rudder position and compass to control the rudder and maintain the planned course
- Repeat the above and win the race
:D !
Actually, I would like to help you write the software. That would be interesting.A media player pre-installed or bundled with the OS ?? Whoops !
