I largely agree with you, a fear of nakedness can never be an excuse for less security.
Why not? Why should the handful of people who set up security measures be allowed to tell everyone else what a sufficient level of decency & dignity is for them? Being able to tell someone when they're allowed to be dressed or not is extremely personal, and more-or-less the last hurdle to cover before you as-good-as own them.
I really don't see why you think you have all these rights when flying. People just keep forgetting that flying is not a right. Nope, not guaranteed anywhere.
It's not that we are giving a few people the power to see anyone naked at any time. These people are going to be looking at naked people ALL DAY. What a _horrible_ job, no? John/Jane Q Public, naked, all day?!? Not only will they be massively desensitized, and probably would encourage the average slashdotter to move through the machine more quickly than not --- the least we can do is deprive them a 30 second grin when a nice body walks through. After all, they are the ones charged with keeping us safe -- whether you like it or not.
mod parent up!
I wish the republican party could be taken back over by intellectual conservatives who actually believe in less spending.
I don't care if Glenn Beck is a member of the Green party, he is just crazy.
Just get an Arduino, and some large FETS. Implementing high power PWM for dimming lights really isn't that hard because you don't need high switching frequencies.
Having taken PDE's last year as a Nuke-E undergrad for intro to quantum, I can tell you that all the physical phenomena PDE's model are generally 'wave' based in _concept_.
I also took our Physics 340 on "Heat Waves and Light" which is most of the stuff relevant to PDE's....
The textbook for that course was
"Selected Chapters from 'University Physics', Young and Freedman, 11th edition." Where selected chapters were all the ones dealing with heat, waves, light, and a teeny bit of relativity.
It's a pretty standard university physics textbook.
I think your response is just as kneejerk.
In a profession where honor and integrity must be valued over all else (including money) - I can see why teaching unions have the potential to protect an important part of our economy from becoming capitalistic (and no, not in the sense that the promise of money drives excellent teaching...)
That being said, as was said in a previous reply - the current union system in America is rather stuck up.
I think a combination of good administration at the top along with a little funding can clean up the teaching system in about 5 years assuming the leadership doesn't drop off at the head with a new election cycle.
I cannot stand people saying that I, or another person, need to "think about what he/she wants to do."
How the heck am I supposed to know the answer to that question, if I have never done anything other than high school type jobs?
I think that certain people are clearly driven to do one or two things and they think that just because it was obvious for them, it _must_ be obvious for the rest of us. This is simply not the case.
Furthermore, 9 times out of 10, what you think a job is all about is not very close to what it actually is about -- so even if you can answer the question, getting a job in said field is usually substantially off the mark of what you _like_ doing.
safari has always been horrid when it comes to leaking memory.
This isn't a new phenomenon.
Anyone who leaves safari open in the dock when they are done browsing is a fool.
Remember that US patents are given to the first to file for a patent and not the first to invent, as can be demonstrated by the US patent for the incandescent lightbulb: http://www.coolquiz.com/trivia/explain/docs/edison.asp or the telephone: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invention_of_the_telephone
Of course, the first one shows that the US patent office can issue a patent for something already patented elsewhere in the world.
This is blatantly WRONG. Unlike most of the world, the US is a first to INVENT system. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_to_file_and_first_to_invent http://inventors.about.com/od/firsttoinvent/First_to_Invent_Rule.htm and I could keep going with google results 3, 4, and 5.

Even in a bound state I'd be interested in seeing a stable Muon compound

you can get a masters degree for that?

I think gentoo has some incredible flexibility and it'd be a shame to see the project go by the wayside.
