Well it seems they hit their mark, dead-on even. It's slim, it's hip... Hell, you even wear it at your hip when not using it -- just like the RAZR. I must admit that even I am interested in this; and I'm typically one to avoid/crack-jokes-at PC rice-rocketeering. (Your PC has a window with a blue glow? Does that add 5~10 horsepower?!)
However, this thing does not look durable in the slightest. Granted I treat my stuff with respect, but the typical American PC user gets real careless real fast. Not to mention that the cousin RAZR has enough reliability issues without being abused. Here's for hoping that this Metro PC doesn't inherit the RAZR issues -- Cheers!
Seriously. Why does every rant of Bennett Haselton's get posted here? "Crusade Against Spam", "How To Steal Websites", "How To Steal Credit Cards", and probably many more I'm forgetting to mention. Stop it already!
It seems to me that he equates any of these to: 1) Do something "clever". 2) ???? 3) Profit!
Obviously the system isn't going to change for him, so attempting to exploit them as a way for making money is the only alternative motive I can imagine. That and he's a 28-yr old computer programmer who is realizing he will amount to nothing in the big scheme of things. Guess what, buddy: That's life.
Hey OpenSuse's hardware detection seems to work a lot better than Ubuntu's. I do like Ubuntu's default desktop better but the bloody thing can not connect to my WAP from my notebook or detect my monitor on my on my desktop. And when I freshly install windows, it doesn't detect my video card. What's your point? This isn't about hardware detection for the reason that the OS will already be installed by Dell. I highly doubt that they're going to ship a Ubuntu-running notebook that doesn't recognize its wireless chipset.
On the desktop issue, call me ignorant but don't manufacturers package monitors with their desktops? Otherwise, it's really not that hard to setup a monitor -- even if you're just holding someone's hand over the phone. "What does your monitor say on its front? Please allow me to put you on hold while I look up the information for that monitor. --Music-- Okay, now set your HorizSync to...". You don't have to worry about drivers, IRQs, Bus IDs, or any of that other stuff...
And "happy-psy-core"? WTF, do you mean psy trance? No, not just psytrance. Happy-psy-core is the fairly-new bastard child of Happy Hardcore and Psytrance. It's a travesty really, but it's what the kids are raving to these days. I've heard a few different names for it as well but none are coming to mind offhand. (Suppressed memory? Probably.)
Everything I've read from BH has been excessively verbose and almost crusadic in self-righteousness. Granted the systems he's "exposing" (OMG! __insert any major dynamic content site__ can be abused?!? NO WAY!) are flawed but that doesn't mean that his half-baked "solutions" are any better. Just because Google can be google-bombed doesn't mean that Bennett's search algorithm is the end-all for search. (Yeah, he hasn't "exposed" Google yet but I have a feeling he would if there was enough negative-google going around. As such I use it as an example.)
DDR isn't about the game, but rather about the music. Sure, it helps people that can't dance feel good about themselves (with the people that do have rhythm feeling even better) but without the music the game would be pretty dull.
With that said, the challenge of the devs is to keep up with music trends in order to release subsequent games. However, the problem here is that most of the music in DDR happens to be Electronica-based and the forms we are familiar with now are dying down in popularity. Granted, happy-psy-core is replacing happycore at raves -- but who in their right mind (read: not on drugs) dances to that anyways? Or even listens to it?
With Emo/Screamo/Crap becoming ever more popular, I don't think that DDR will exist in coming years. Sure they could probably merge ParaPara and DDR to have a stomping windmill game, but the kids wouldn't play it because they couldn't spiral off into a wall while "playing"/"dancing"/acting-like-retards. Not to mention the scores would have to, by definition, rate the player worse and worse so they could feel legit as they cry in a corner -- And no school would promote that.
Emo-trolling aside, I really do think that the style of "game play" in DDR has to evolve some more before it can become timeless enough to catch on in schools. (I think adding "You die of dysentery" to the game-over screen might be enough, but that's just me.)
Damn it, I mistagged the end of the italics. Oh well, deal with it. And if you can't then here is how I meant it:
I don't understand how people get so diluted in their views on reality. Can't they just realize that they are sometimes (read: often) wrong? Another recent example that stuck with me throughout this story is that of Michael Crook. (And in this example of Crook, after his apology video he posted an "I'm not really sorry, but I had to say it." video to YouTube. I'm not linking it to spare you all.)
I thought it was common sense that if you get proven wrong (or your lies dissected) that you get the fuck over it and get on with your life, right? The only thing to gain is a more wide-spread reputation -- but mind you, it's the type of reputation you want.
That said, what is it that spawns these people? They seem to infest society in both recent and dated history... Nobody ever likes them, so why do they do that to themselves?

I thought this was talking about a corporate monster gaining a mind-of-its-own, if you will, and no longer needing executive heads. Oh wait, that never happens.
Being that Cody Brocious is 19, who wants to take bets that he'll rename the project in a couple years? Maybe something along the lines of... Alky-Hall Project?
Whatever I'm just starting to get tired of everyone sucking Nintendo's wii. Why? It's not like it's a wee-Wii. It's actually grown quite large with all the media stroking.
And to answer your question about EA suffering, I wouldn't say so. I have a Wii, and I must say that aside from the minigame-oriented games (Warioware, Raving Rabbids, Monkey Ball) I have yet to see a game that both: introduces a style of game-play that requires a controller such as Wii's; and makes full use of the controller for a game that captures the attention of the player for more than a few minutes. I think the closest was Elebits. I played until the first boss (beat him) and got bored, because it was just more of the same -- drag boxes/bushes/tables/etc and then play hyper-speed duck hunt. Oh, and don't be too loud either! After more games get released and people realize that there wasn't much need I think they'll relax and once again go for whichever console/game combinations have the best graphics (and potentially gameplay, but kids these days seem to prefer graphics).
Taking into account the above as well as the sheer lack of games released for any system, I think it's a bit early to jump to conclusions about wrong/right choices being made. I'd imagine companies will win-out by sticking to their original game plan (no pun intended). This is because it takes a lot more development time to port a game across these console platforms (coding, testing, inconsistencies, etc) and I think time is of the essence currently; People are anxious for new games. Personally, I'd attribute almost all of the XBox360's success to Gears of War alone.
By and large they're much happier being told that Item A does XYZ, while Item B does XYZ *and* W, all while being easier to use than Item A. Despite W being a useless feature, and the "easier to use" claim being baseless, Item B will win out due to how it's been marketed. Actually, I think what it's saying is that Item A does XYZ, while Item B says it does XYZ and uses W as a distraction away from the core functionality.
Also, as described in TFA "easier to use" seems to equate exactly to "less interaction with user" or "controlled interruption of computing experience". If a user sees a firewall product repeatedly asking about random security stuff, they won't see it as being secure but rather as annoying. Fine examples (although not directly "security products") are the different models of Windows: Vista is horribly annoying, whereas others are horribly insecure.
So while I'll agree with you that marketing plays a part, I'd disagree on your other points.
Interesting idea, but I must say that it is poorly done -- for the sole reason of the person "booby-trapping" the motions. Reading around on the linked sites from TFA, it's quite apparent that this guy has been doing the same shit for years.
IANAL, and I'm near-certain HINAL either. That being said, the example of his "sting operation" (which he seems quite proud of) is a great one. It seems that he believes the spammers came to him with an offer by spamming him. Sure, I'll grant him that spam is annoying. Sure, Joe Spies should rot. Yes, Joe lied in court; However Bennett still initiated the contact with FullServicesOnline seeking to "purchase" spam. In my understanding it's still entrapment, whether or not someone else has used the same system against him.
I can't recall where exactly, but somewhere this d-bag mentioned that "it's not like his claims are all the same". What about this page? And in all honesty, how different can the motions be when they're all coming off as "I am on a crusade against spam!"
So basically, this guy just reminds me of Michael Crook, with a slightly better means. Bennett is an attention-whore, using his (misinterpreted) views of the law to try and "crack down on spammers" ultimately (it seems) to get mentioned in the news. He's a 28-yr-old programming contractor, upset that he hasn't amounted to anything more. Get over it, grow up, stop haranguing the judges and judicial system, and for the love of god stop posting self-publicizing crap to/. Seriously, if I were a judge I would just dismiss this guy's motions straight off myself as well.
The msg body was a GIF containing text
It's really too bad that "Everyday Joe" doesn't know to:
Disable automatic image display in emails
Ignore emails that contain the majority of their text in said images
Ignore emails containing attachments that they aren't already expecting.
Otherwise this bullshit wouldn't propagate. Seriously, how many worm stories have to hit the news before the illiterate user wises up just a little bit?
You see, the reason why I like BlorgOS is that I run a library and BlorgOS can't use soundcards at all, no soundcards are compatible with it.
I've tried BlorgOS but I actually prefer its cousin, BorgOS. It's superior in that it uses you as its soundcard, and just about everything else while it's at it.
Okay, so one thing will lead to another and soon Google will be creating technology to recognize non-symbol shapes... How long before I can login to my G-Accounts by smiling at my computer?
we can judge whether we want to try Vista or not based partly on that information. ...and partly on every other random guy who doesn't like Vista. FFS, I don't think I know a single person who both owns Vista and likes it.

It seems to be a typical response from Microsoft.
Another example I came across recently is here. What's the point of designing as such?
It's really too bad that "Everyday Joe" doesn't know to:
Otherwise this bullshit wouldn't propagate. Seriously, how many worm stories have to hit the news before the illiterate user wises up just a little bit?
And the release that'll get them both excited (despite their differences) just so happens to be: Busty Bimbo.

It's true. Pop culture is obsessed with the gerund.
I'll MSN you about it later. Or do you prefer that I text instead?
Hah! I'd agree except for the fact that I don't know him :)
