Our hero is using PSDoom to "mannage" a Linux workstation that has been infected with a twisted copy of the MCP. The virus was installed onto a Windows 2000 box on the network by the latest Service Pack. Suddenly, a voice is heard from the workstations speakers.
MCP Virus:
I see you are not running Windows on this workstation. Come to the dark side.
Our Hero:
Never! Just wait till I get the BFG! Then I'll show you whos boss!
MCP Virus:
So... You like to play games, do you?
-- Our hero notices that his mouse, a Micorsoft Optical mouse, starts to pull away from his hand. It flips over, and shoots him with a strange light from its optical window. Our hero finds himself in a place unfamiliar to him. He sees hundreds of Linux sysadmins being held up to the walls of a circular room. They are being scaned by some kind of energy. Something pulls at him, and he is thrown toward one of the empty spots on the wall and held there.
MCP Virus:
HAHAHA!!!
Now you will know my true purpose! I will drain all the knowledge you have and use it for my own evil purpose! I will be [long pause. Drumroll] Windows XP Server!
Voice from off camera:
Not if I have anything to do with it!
-- In walks a short, fat, black and white bird with a yellow beak, wielding a BFG. Camera focuses on him, then the BFG.
Voice from near dead Linux Systems admin off camera:
We're saved! It's Kernel Tux!
-- Uh... He blasts the hell out of everything, the workstation and the world are saved from the horrable evil.
Sun creates a cross platform language called Java.
Microsoft does not like cross platform becouse it != WIndows!
Microsoft "supports" Java becouse people want it and it's a buzz term that gets press.
Microsoft's version of Java is left incomplete, slow, and broken.
Users blame Java and Sun for how much Microsofts Java sucks.
Microsoft removes it's broken software from Windows siting "Security Concerns".
Users don't care becuse "Java sucks anyway"
Microsoft crushes a another competitor.
Yeah. Boy, I'm sure glad MS did the "right thing" because no one enjoys "webpages with Java"
I've found this site which focuses on WiFi and the laws that the FCC has. It expains what you can and can't do and the types of gain that you can add to them. I found that it clears up a lot of the questions that I had about it.

THEY WERE NOT SELLING LINUX DAMNIT!
on
Death of a Rebel

· Score: 2
They were not selling Linux!
They were selling SERVERS!
This was not a "Linux" company. They could have used anyting they wanted to on their servers. They were selling little plug-n-play boxes that served files, printers, web access, ect...
Where the hell do you get off bashing the commercial viability of Linux? They were not "giving away software", they were selling hardware. If they had used software that thay had to licence from some huge redmond corp, they would have gone belly up faster becouse their costs would be even higher for boxes that do the exact same thing.
1 company that makes money and uses Linux?
Easy! TIVO.
Rebel's problem was they they were to busy trying to brag about the fact that they used Linux instead of braging about how they fixed customers problems.
When was the last time you heard a Tivo commercial that said "Our product is great becouse we use Linux. So buy it!"
Duh.

Yeah, right. I guess what you're saying is that Britain lost out because they decided to basically give there knowledge away for the betterment of society rather then make millions at the expense of it.
Me: I would like to buy this Ferrari... Here is some cash.
Ferrari dealer: But this is only a $1 bill! This car is worth $150K!
Me: Oh... Sorry about that. These new bills don't do so well in the wash. All the zeros get washed away. Just scan it in and you'll see it's true value.
Ferrari Dealer: Ahh... I see. Yes. Here are your keys, and here is your change. Would you like that $850K in $1K or $10K dollor bills?
Me: $1K bills please. It's easier to spend that way. By the way... Is you're daughter busy tonight?
In further news, Rambus, facing gallons of red ink in the 2nd quarter, have laid off 99% of their engineers. When asked for a reason for this perplexing move a Rambus spokesman stated, "The engineers were the cause of the whole problem! If we did not have to pay their salaries, we would all be millionaires! But now that Intel has violated our intellectual property by using DDR ram, we really need to tighten up and get to work." When then asked why Rambus kept their two lowest paid engineers the response was, "Well, we needed to keep them around in case one of our 500 lawyers has another annoying technical question. I hate those."
I could not browse to the 56k stream of the video. I had to guess the location. Here it is. It's the realmedia 56k stream. I think that we may be looking at this the wrong way at times. If we split MicroSoft into, say, 3 completely separate companies, we will not get the "starfish" effect. One company does JUST the OS part of Microsoft. Another does JUST the Office part. The third does JUST the Internet things as in the browser and the web server software which should be split from NT and Win2k (if it ever comes out). What will this do? The OS people will want everyone to write software for their OS. SO, they open up all the Hidden API's that Microsoft keeps hidden now. All of a sudden, Windows programs can do MORE and do it BETTER and with more STABILITY. The Office People will want everyone to use their Office Suite. SO, they port it to as many OS's as they possibly can so that EVERYONE can use it! The internet people will want their servers and browser to run on as many OS's and interface with as many 3rd party programs as they can. SO, they will port it and open it up to developers so that they can interface with it so that more people use it. Now I know that Microsoft does other things as well (like hardware) but you get the idea.
What will be the end result? EVERYONE WINS! The other OS's, like Linux, will get the MS apps that everyone uses. This means that Windows and Linux will be on even terms and the superiority of one OS over another can be proven to the world. Not only that, Windows will have to WORK HARD to keep up to date and to be the quickest, most stable, and easiest to use OS. They will not be able to just sit on their asses and say, "Well, lets just count our money for a while. No one will go and use Linux because the apps that the world uses, and that we control, only runs on Windows." or, "We don't need to improve office. Competitors can't do what we can do because we are the only ones that know all the API's that windows uses."
Also the split would not have to be regulated for more then 10 years, if that. Once competition gets in, there is no getting it out unless your actually better. No more sitting you your butt unless you want to move back in with you parents after your company goes under.
In closing, splitting MS into separate Organizations is good for everyone concerned. Even Bill. Stock splits are great, aren't they Bill.:)
Um, that's not entirely accurate. The Pentium II is a Pentium Pro with MMX. The plain old socket Pentium is dead. Nothing is currently produced of its lineage. The Pentium III is yet another chip technology. The Xeon processors are really just hopped up versions of the name that they carry. I'm not sure of everything that is different about them, except that they have a bigger, faster cache memory on board. That makes them better in the server market. You would not notice a performance increase between a PII and a Xeon when you are playing Riven. But you would probably notice a boost in, say, an SQL or Web server running on Linux.
Remember: As good as I sound, don't assume I know what I am talking about.
