That's extortion and we should call it what it is.
I agree that we should call it what it is, but it isn't extortion. Extortion is "You do something for me or I will hurt you in some way." When did Microsoft do that?
Sometimes, the best ideas seem like bad ideas at the time. It is important that the creative people with these ideas continue with them, even if they are ridiculed. Otherwise, we would have missed out on some of the best inventions.
That being said, intentionally making documentation more difficult is just stupid.

Here is the best advice you will ever hear regarding staying married. This is the info marriage counselors don't want you to know.
Two TVs. And two MythTV boxes (or Tivos). Separate blogs, calendars, and email addresses. Share a gold fish.
Regarding the toilet seat problem, men don't understand why a woman would fall into the toilet. We always check the position of the seat, because we don't remember which way we put it last time. Women remember exactly which position it was in last time, and subconsciously believe it to still be in that position. Be respectful of your woman, and help to keep her ass dry by putting the toilet seat down.
But the openness of your wireless network really isn't their problem.
This isn't about wireless networks. Regardless of how you connect, you are connecting through an open network called the internet. The internet being open is not necessarily a problem, but it does present issues in regards to accessing something like email, or banking. Fortunately, there are standard, wide-spread and tested solutions for those issues, such as SSL. Unfortunately, SSL requires the participation of both the end user and the server, and some servers, such as google, are not so cooperative. Google has SSL, but they don't do it right.
It isn't Google's responsibility to secure your connection end-to-end.
As stated above, yes it is.
It's far more reasonable to think that it's your responsibility to not broadcast sensitive information in plaintext!!
That is the only way, if the server doesn't support SSL.
But seriously, all someone would have to do is create a sufficient mask. Perhaps that is tough to do now, but if this idea were to take off, the supplies and instructions for doing so, would be available everywhere. And worst of all, you're wearing all of your passwords on your face!
It is important to point out that the above post is accurate for vaginal and oral sex. HIV is usually transmitted via anal sex. S & M that involves blood is also more dangerous than straight sex.
Get the facts. And remember, facts are rare in government buildings, such as schools.
My spidey senses say that OOXML SP1 will be coming around shortly.

It discourages casual copying...
Casual copying does not require a CD or DVD. It only requires Bittorrent. Bit torrent works just as well with a "copy protected" CD as it does with a standard CD.
Yes, this is the first time in the history of computing that any company has ever offered a lower-end, economy model. It will shake the computing industry by storm!
Yes, lots of companies have policies against using free software. The first word that comes to mind for them is "retarded." The second was "paranoid." But really, these people are just seriously confused. They may have assumed their whole lives that you can't get something for nothing. It's tough to fight deeply held beliefs like that, even using logic and reality.
I've observed that these people, and companies are gradually phasing out. It's natural selection. The companies that learn how to cut costs, and the managers who implement good cost cutting polices, stay, while the companies who refuse, will die from lower margins, and the managers who never get a clue, will be fired.
What if my heart stops! No circulation and then no power for my bionic fingers to dial 911 on my wrist watch.
Not being able to do basic things such as dialing a phone, moving your fingers, or remaining conscious has always been one of the side effects of your heart stopping.
They wanted to install seats facing backwards in airplanes specifically to reduce the deaths from the initial crash. Howver, they determined that the flying public wouldn't accept rear-facing seats. Considering all the BS the flying public puts up with nowadyas, maybe its time to float the idea again.
How about seats that swivel? Then passengers could sit facing forward, and in the rare crash, could turn backward, at the instructions of a flight attendant. This could cause problems, like kids being asses and glaring at the person behind them while seated, but they could all easily be remedied by the seats being locked, and unlocked in an emergency.
Because it's AOL spyware. Have you ever read the Winamp license? All of your base belongs to AOL.
I haven't used winamp for years. I use mplayer. I don't respect the law if the law don't respect me. But from what I remember of winamp 3.x, it was non-intrusive. The only information it collected from me was aggregate, and it gave me the option to turn it off when I installed it, which I did.
I was surprised when you said that AOL owned it. I just checked out the website, and the EULA, and discovered that you are correct. The EULA doesn't look bad though. Much better than the industry standard. Especially surprising for AOL.
That being said, my standards were much lower when I used Windows (duh). But the original point I was making is that if someone wants to run a legal media player in linux, it is possible. If not with winamp, there are other legal solutions.
Running winamp under linux is a better solution than running whatever the user is running under Windows. In fact, running Windows is probably more illegal than running mplayer or totem or xine. We can't know anything for sure, because Windows is closed-source, but I bet Windows violates hundreds of copyrights and patents.
If it's not addictive, and not something that infected person's have to take for the rest of their lives, I just don't think the drug companies will approve.
I don't recall it making the news the first time deep blue beat the world grand master at checkers.
Deep Blue played chess, which is what I assume you meant. Technically, chinook didn't make the news either. It happened in April, and is just now in July making slashdot (by definition, not "new"s). Deep Blue didn't make the web news because it was pre-web. Neither of them made the TV news because they don't involve drugs or violence or death or sexual perversion or Paris Hilton.

It is interesting that you compare the RIAA to storm troopers. Each are just as likely to hit their target.

A widespread power outage and a gay wino vandalizing a datacenter on the same day?
Thanks a lot, jerk. Your bank account was already empty.

Nope. I just checked. clownpenisfart.{com, net, org} are all taken.
It's funny that you mention that. There were no NT versions prior to Windows NT 3.1. They started with 3.1 because people justly fear 1.0 versions.
No? Then I'll just stick with bo2k. Free, open source, and probably more mature than the advertised program. Thanks for the spam, slashdot.
