Wow, 27% of cell phone users in North America must be real "diehard Apple fanatics," since obviously no one else cares about the $200 "overpriced, underfeatured" iPhone.
One has to pay for support from Canonical. The idea is that one pays for the operating system and then gets tech support for "free" like Microsoft does it.
Vista is more of a failure than XP was. Why? Because Microsoft is losing market share with Windows now
By that logic, every future release of the Windows operating system will be a failure, no matter how good it is! Oh wait, that's true anyway; never mind.
I don't know anything about the foundation and I'm certainly not an expert on foreign aid (I've taken two classes on development at my university), but I just wanted to answer your question about how aid agencies can do harm. People in the West seem to have this idea that if we give enough money to the poor they will escape poverty. However, the reason the poor are poor is not because they don't have enough money, it's because as a community are unable to sustainably produce wealth. So when given aid money for long periods of time the poor become dependent upon this money. So, when the stream of money is cut off the poor are worse off than they were before because they had become dependent upon it instead of developing new methods of producing wealth. Better ways of doing aid involve helping the poor develop ways of producing wealth like microfinance, business development services, and most importantly trying to get governments of poor countries to strongly enforce property rights and eliminate income redistribution and corruption. Hope this helps
Why are they "investigating" this when there is a giant monopoly in the operating system and office suite markets? Maybe they should do something about monopolies that have existed for >15 years before looking at google and yahoo, especially when the former actually provides a good product. It's tough to be "overpriced" or "exploitative" when you give away your product for free.
You obviously haven't read my signature, and after reading yours I decided against having an iPhone debate with a 12-year-old.
Sorry, I meant 27% of smart phone users in North America.

Just to clarify, not all Christians deny evolution and insist on a 6-day Creation framework. I am one of them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Literary_framework_view
Proper role of government?
"In silico" actually has fewer letters and syllables than "run on a computer," so it's more efficient!
Aren't they a "computer" company, because that's what they produce and sell? They sell the hardware & software (what makes a computer) together.
Yeah, everything you said is true.

One can get free professional ubuntu CDs from ShipIt. It does take close to a month to receive them though.
Governmental successes: 1
Governmental failures: Every other action government has taken in the history of mankind.
Nothing the government does in Massachusetts is wasteful.
apt?
Who cares which side gets elected? Government wins, grows, and takes more of our money either way.

It's not like I ever see any ads anyway, so sign me up!
I meant Word takes >20 seconds to start up after a fresh boot. It's the slowest part.
Just like what happens every time mommy government makes more regulations and takes away more freedoms.
MS office takes >20 seconds to start up on my 2.33ghz 3GB mac.

Wouldn't want anyone engaging in mutually voluntary trade without the government knowing about it.
Word.
True except you can't nest labels like you can folders.
How do you define "overcharge?" You're not willing to pay it? many people are. If the market will bear a price, it's not too high.
