The funny part is - people always say the TCP/IP stack from windows is ripped off from FreeBSD. So the conclusion is not OpenSrc/ClosedSrc Its Linux TCP/IP stack contains less bugs than the FreeBSD one.
If you'd have bothered reading the article you'd know the following:
Originally, we were targeting NT to the Intel i860 (code-named 'N-Ten)', a RISC processor that was horribly behind schedule. Because we didn't have any i860 machines in-house to test on, we used an i860 simulator. That's why we called it NT, because it worked on the 'N-Ten.'"

They are too explaining why MS stopped working on OS/2.
RTFA for once?
There has been a post on Slashdot about this but I couldnt find it. Even Google wasnt my friend at first but after refining the search a few times google finally came up with this Google cache only as I can't reach the site:(
> paperless archiving Actually paper use has gone up dramatically since the invention of computers. Printers make it possible to print out everything without a lot of troubles.
Can't count the times I've printed something out just to read it on my way home (subway) and throw it away when done. I know this isnt very environment friendly - but atleast I dont own a car:)
To parent of parent: NO! DONT do that! That will kill you! Tinfoil hats protect you from mind reading devices and microwaves. Mod your microwave - it needs to operate with an open door for this experiment to work. Put on your your tinfoil hat and switch on your microwave (with open door - that the important part) and watch the pretty sparks! Doing this 3 times a week makes you permanently immune to mind-reading-devices.
To parent: Dont kill him (infertility is enough:)! Let him spread word about the mind-reading-device-protection to his 'anon tinfoil hat users' group:)
If this post doesnt make sense - try reading it backwards!
That slot is for motherboard expansion (if theres not enough space on the other MB output area (like extra usb ports etc).
> Why hasn't anyone put the GPU on the OPPOSITE side of the card yet? Very easy - heat flows upwards - the card itself would block the heat stream. And of course the electrons would fall off;)
> Remember, the "2nd slot" would normally (always?) be occupied by a PCI GFX card in a ATX form factor [formfactors.org] motherboard that features AGP This is not true. Usually the first PCI slot is sharing resources with the AGP slot - thats why the lost slot doesnt matter much.
Technically speaking you can put a PCI Gfx card into every PCI slot, they are all the same. (You just have to watch out for shared irq's etc - but thats true for the first slot too)
> Windows 95 was not an OS because it sat atop a 16-bit protected mode bootloader Hmm? Lets say I write a 16-bit protected mode bootloader for linux (lilo is a bootloader too) does that mean that linux wouldnt be an OS anymore?
The flawed part in W9x was the sharing of the first meg of memory with every other application (think DLL's). This saved a meg of ram and brought W9x down to (i think) 5 megs min req.
> Perhaps the computer game industry should focus more backwards compatabi Huh? A PC is 100% (well, maybe 99.999999%) backwards compatible. I'm still playing old games on my pc just for fun. While the XBox II will most likely be able to and the PS2 can play games from the prior console generation the Nintento GameCube can not. Although Nintento is releasing a GBA game adapter for the GC there hasnt been anything announced about N64 game adapter.
I'm having problems running my Linus maybe you can help me. When trying to put a DVD into his mouth Linus will just chew it and spit it out again. Should I try to upgrade to Linus 2.5?;)

Both the initial board and the replacement board (which took almost a year to get) died after a few weeks and just wouldnt boot up anymore. The retailer told me he wouldnt carry Tyan anymore because of the return rates.
We're now stuck with a dead Tyan mobo and no more warranty:p
Not sure if that helps or not since I couldnt find what exact area you would like to work in, but here it is: Rent A Coder The main site has problems right now, but I can get to specific subsites by bookmarked URL so it should be back soon.
With an account you can bid for small scale software dev projects. A says "I want an TCP Stack for my microwave oven" B says "I've done 10 projects so far and to implement your project I want 100 bucks!" C says "I've done 1 project so far and to do your stuff I want 75 bucks!"
No a gets to choose if he wants to contract B or C.
I've created an account but due to lack of time didnt land a contract yet, but I've heard some quite positive things about this site. I stumbled accross that site when people where talking about making some money in their freetime on some bulletin board - if you're good you can make like 1000$ a month with that.
I just wanted to get a story posted and since most stories on slashdot are either really old or dupes I thought I'll try it with this one;)
No honestly I didnt notice it was a year old and I should have listened to the voices inside my head screaming "DEJA VU".. and not write it off as some wierd Acid flashback/winke
Set the X/Y init position somewhere off the screen and recompile.

With luck, I'll never find out how I would do in this situation.
Since you are reading Slashdot and it involves sex I'm very positive you wont.
