    Yes that's correct. But there is a few different states the port could be in. it could be "closed" so that all connection requests are silently droped. it could "open" so that connections are not silently droped but still "closed" because nothing is listening for a connection (this will give a warning from most port scanners). It could also be "open" where the connection is not refused and an application is listening.

    I hope that helps, and wasnt too confusing.

    You lose your license for a year under the dubious assertion that driving is a "privilege", despite the protection of the 5th Amendment, but you do NOT get a criminal conviction on your record and your insurance does not balloon.

    It won't work. If just having the means to prove something were actually enough to convince the faithful... well, how do you explain the southern USA?

    It's not just a jab at the fine bible-thumping guys and gals down there, though. It happens the same everywhere. Europe had its own counter-enlightenment movement, waaaay back. As in, a couple of centuries back. That's really what happens when you assault someone's beliefs hard enough: he'll just switch to block-head mode.

    Don't try to rationalize that this activity is not illegal just because it's not immoral or unethical in your eyes (or anyone else's). The 2 are completely unrelated.

    I agree with your statement. The following is not an argument, simply my opinion on the morality vs legality problem.
    There will always be actions that are moral but illegal, and there will always be actions that are immoral but legal. As I see it the best solution to this is to never bring legality into your logic for deciding what you should or should not do. This just leaves morality (i.e. what effect does this action have on others?), and cost (effect on yourself) to base these decisions on. MUCH better IMHO.

    Thats strange. I have never been able to get the new discussion system to work on ie. its great in firefox, but if I enable it home and then come to work where there is only winxp/ie it will be enabled here to and you cant disable it from ie, so I just stick with the normal system.

    The fact that CZs are thermal insulators and diamonds are conductors is only the tip of the iceburg. CZ has virtually nothing in common with diamond, other than a similar appearance. Of course that's all it takes to make CZ a nice diamond replacement in cheap jewelry, but they are fundamentally different in so many ways; they are made of different elements, they have different crystal structures, density, refractive index, hardness, cleavage properties...

    Faulting an AV-less Vista for not stopping viruses is a bit like faulting a door without a lock for opening when the handle is twisted.

    By the time your AV software comes into play your already infected. So AV software is not the lock on your door. Its the rifle in your house.
    Still important, But vary different.
