I don't know how you play the game, but any time I pick up a GTA game or clone, it's next to impossible for me to keep from committing several hundred crimes in any given ten minute span...
You mean that people with similar points of view tend to congregate in the same venues? And here I was thinking/. was a diverse, representative cross-section of humanity...
No, but they certainly were wary of the common populace and its ability (or lack thereof) to vote intelligently. See "electoral college" for further reading.
I don't like the idea of my pizza being exposed to cosmic radiation when its way up out of (or close to?) the atmosphere. I'm not sure if it'd be something worth worrying over, but good luck selling it to the consumer.
How else should schools grade kids? If it's unacceptable to grade them based on where they fall relative to their peers, then it is necessary to grade them using some arbitrary, meaningless point system. Once you've established this system, how can you account for natural fluctuations in the intellect of students? If you don't use the students themselves to dole out grades, what yard stick will you use?
Any ID you could come up with won't be sufficient. Short of using DNA/finger prints/retinal scans, there's no form of ID that a determined attacker would be unable to obtain. The only thing these IDs are good for is for verifying the age of people trying to purchase alcohol and tobacco.
Oh wait, that's right, even teenagers have access to fake IDs...
I love the 360, but I don't understand why Microsoft is so opposed to allowing such games. Are there really that many people buying Core systems? What's the point?
No doubt they would have a hit. That would make for a great game and I'm sure a large chunk of the gaming community would hit euphoria over it. The problem lies in making such a game balanced for the muscle in the organization so that they are still entertained. You also need to figure out how to handle an MMO composed entirely of complex cityscapes with hundreds or thousands of players in close proximity. The GTA game design is a thing of beauty. I'm not sure how accurate it is to say that Rockstar is in ruins. The GTA franchise alone has a lot of steam left in it if Rockstar has the good sense to infuse it with some new features and such.
I still don't understand how people can get so irate over the violence. We've been experiencing increasing violence in all forms of media, from the news to television to movies and yes, even video games. Is it right? Who am I to judge? I _don't_ think it's a problem though. Not yet anyway. I am by no means condoning a return of Roman gladitorial games, but a degree of violence is understandable. It's simply the way of the world, is it not?

Yeah, nothing says, "suave, classy and sophisticated," like the smooth tearing sound of Velcro shoe straps...
And what of those who played both?

Who the hell would mod parent Troll? Some of you out in /. land have too many mod points and too little reading comprehension ability.
You must have some pretty serious brain hemorrhage or something, so I'll forgive you for forgetting Goldeneye.

Response: Only if tearing the skin off meatbags can be considered evil.

We need a "-1 scary" mod...
You're just not doing it right.

Tell me that when you're listening to an Enzyte commercial after the crash.

PlanetSide did a very respectable job bringing the FPS genre into the MMO world.
