That's what you get when you have deregulated telecommunications. Here in Australia we don't have that problem, a mobile phone is a mobile phone, service & price is the same across the board per provider. It's up to the provider to set the charges, but they can't charge more because one phone is a 'feature phone' and one is a 'smartphone'. That's called profiteering when both use the same services.

Enjoy your small government and lack regulation.

This is why I laugh my arse off every time I read people talking about Android being more open than iOS.

You need to root/jailbreak BOTH OSs, the difference is that if you don't want to root/JB your device (you know, you bought a phone and want it to just work), iOS kicks the crap out of Android.

Having recently gone from an iPhone 4 to an HTC Desire S... well, I'm really thinking about going back to iOS due to how terrible HTC Android is. Tethering problems, network stack crashes, and general failures all over the place. If this is what "one of the best Android devices" (according to many reviews) is like, well, I don't want any of that horrible shit.

I know it's just the HTC Desire S rom, but I don't want to root the device, I don't want to fuck around with it. If I want to fuck around with an Android device, I'll buy one for that. My phone is my phone, if I screw it, I lose money.

The way I see it is that MS is trying to push toward an easy interface for creating apps, while still leaving "legacy" languages functioning. It's a good sign really, there's a lot on the wind about where iOS will be headed. While Apple may not be able to beat MS at raw market penetration, iOS has shown that you can decimate market leaders by simplifying application development, delivery and accessibility. Look at Nokia, at one stage they almost owned the mobile market, now they have lost almost all their market power.

If MS can pull this off by streamlining mobile, tablet & desktop development I am betting we'll see a final clash of the titans between Apple and MS. At the moment it's just a bit of a dance around each other, will be a great fight to watch.

The only people who stop playing on servers with active (not "thin-skinned") administration are cheaters and lamers. Having run gaming servers for over 15 years, populations come from having a great environment to play in. Most hardcore players hate cheaters and don't want to be trolled by a 12 year old when playing their favourite game.

Someone getting kick/banned with a reason is usually followed by "lol" or "idiot" on most actively admined servers. I can't say I've ever seen someone emo fit and/or rage quit because someone got kicked for cheating, being a racist or trolling everyone else.
