    oh, and its free, people in this part of the world cant afford windows, so there are many hacked versions that people use, often preinstalled with firefox (and photoshop and office and everything else you normaly install yourself when starting with an offical windows disc)

    better support for non english speaking users is often the reason, or at least got there first in the case of vkontakte.ru v facebook.com, facebook added international language support, but only after everyone had an account on vkontakte...

    seems lazy on behalf of our techy people that they havnt updated your software for what, 4/5 years now. Maybe a bit of new investment is needed to drag you into the modern era...

    does not the very website we are using right now...slashdot, make fairly good use of javascript... and in fact most of the other sites i go to...facebook, gmail, etc... so do you really want people to stop using javascript? and take the internet back to the wasteland of the '90s

    yea, surely you can see that you've just fallen into another spammers trick, by filling in that form, even clicking the link they know they have a real, used, email address. Just get yourself a good spam filter, personaly swear by gmail, you'll never see spam again, its deleted and delt with for you

    This is exactly the point, i dont want to code to the google app engine, i want to write an app that i can run on app engine, and then when sun create a better, cheaper, whatever, cloud java service, move it and use that. without having to change anything. Thats the freedom that the standerd java platform gives me.

    cause it does lots of other stuff...converting videos, streaming etc...all of which can be nicely automated using the command line

    It isnt a no issue, its not cool when the java automatic update, which you think, fine, that will update my java...but no! it comes with some dodge toolbar as well... so many people i know end up with loads of these things, not knowing where they are from or how to get rid of them the number of little things when your click through an installer and it has a tiny tickbox for 'install google toolbar' or whatever... not cool!

    it might be completely different to manage, but fixing a fender is gonna be different from fixing a gibson, but just playing it, opening firefox and browsing the internet, checking your mail is very very much the same...

    gwt isnt for sites that need spidering, a site such as gmail, doesnt need to be indexed, spiders as for searching content, gwt is for apps

    Id have said using something such as mootools (which i personaly use alot), makes simple ajax interaction much simpler to code, and gives much more reliable cross-browser support but yea, gwt, which i've use alittle, is definatly for building full on web apps, not just enhancing basic pages

    ok, but but im thinking the question is more about web apps, i dont quite see how your gonna build an app such as google docs as plain html... even this very slashdot page uses much javascript to make it a much more usable experience, since it has been updated with javascript slashdot is much nicer to use, i no longer have to click lots and wait for whole pages to load to read all the comments...

    yea, there surely comes a point, like the break from system 9 to osx, where you need to leave behind what was, and start with something new, that works now...With all the virtulising that is happenning these day there is surely no reason to keep that old windows 95 code running on a windows 95 machine

    also simlar in the uk, i would pay about £5-10 a month for unlimited 3g, but as it is i get free skype, msn messenger and ebay...
    the idea of paying to recieve is compleatly insane, it seems to be all aload of historical stuff which has no relevance anymore, like the way data used to £5 per mb, and now its unlimited, 3g...
    the trouble with big instustry, prob made worse by big country, is its slow moving, people dont understand the real costs and so the companys are slow to upgrade...
