But then as someone who believes in science, you can see how actually all those bacteria and virus have worked together to create the world we live in, yes, some cause illness but many just make nature work, which illness is a part of. I see it as all fitting together, really quite neatly, something that the suposed randomness of evolution doesnt really explain
A few scraps of fossil doesn't really count as evidence for the complex systems of the human body being some fluke. Even less so for the complex emotional side of humans.
Don't get me wrong, Im not a big fan of intelligent design either, but I dont like hearing darwin being preached as if its as proven as 2+2=4. Science has been proved wrong before, and I've no doubt it will be again.
I've not heard of Occam's razor before, but really, the universe is far from explained, big bang theory still has that gaping whole of what caused it to happen, and where did that energy come from.
If your constitution really does stop the 'stories' of religions being taught thats seems kinda sad, not that you should approach them all as fact, but there are more religious than non-religious people on this earth, a little respect for them might do you good. Trying to show atheism as the only way is as much of a lie.
Surely this is a step closer to honest teaching on theorys of creation, shame its in a history class.
Evolution is far from a 'proved' theory, its a theory, and there is some evidence that helps people support it, but there is also plenty of evidence to tear it apart. It has the advantage of having been taught as science in schools around the world for years, and now anybody seen to discredit it is seen as a some mad religious person.
The best option to schools is to teach what theories people have, show what real evidence there is for each, and do so without letting radical atheism get in their way.
After all, looking around, I see more evidence for God than for no God. Although I guess me saying that ruins the rest of my post for most of you...
umm, have you ever been on the underground? and a) seen a diesel locomotive b) an empty train (before around 9pm) c) more than a gap of about 3-4 minutes, if thats not running to capacity, what is?
I really don't see what you guy's problem with government doing things is. Surely something like health care, which everybody should have the right to, and therefore isn't a viable business environment, should be run by someone with no interest in trying to make money out of it. Health care should be about providing for people, not making money for share holders, something that no money making business will ever achieve.
That all assumes that you do want there to be health care for all, not just those wealthy enough to afford it.
Surely if you build a railway from san fransico to new york, and its a 3 hour journey, the only non cost effective part is that the airlines lobbying your government lose all their business and that it would take some investment, without short term profits, which is lets face it, all that matters these days...
seriously how many human rights concerns are there building a railway line? when i saw it had taken 10 years of planning and will take another 15 to build these new lines in Britain i was shocked at the level of bureaucratic crap that must be going on. there is no way it takes that long, if you actually just get down to it.
interesting isn't it, how governments all up for freedom of speak and information until it starts to undermine their power or god forbid, their income. no one is in government for the people, power corrupts even the best of people, let alone those who manage to be prime minister/president
personaly, pen everytime, its distracting using a laptop, and not really much of an advantage. i also prefer to have paper notes to look though.
most my lecturers print the slide, so i can annotate them and they make good notes for revision. i see people trying to do it on their laptops but it is so limiting, you can squeeze those last few words down the side, or just diagrams, and lines all over the place...
'Cause Vista's not as slow as people claim. I've never seen any evidence, either in my testing or online, that Vista ran programs any slower than XP. Most of Vista's slowness rep came from two things:
1) Lots of messing with the disk, particularly on boot. Vista wanted to cache a ton of shit in memory, probably to aggressively, as well as other stuff. Could lead to a system being sluggish to respond to users when it first started.
so it was slow? just to clear that up, ok there was a reason, but all that caching did actually make it slower
2) People running it on crap hardware. Vista has a much higher minimum bar than XP for good performance. You really want a dual core and 2GB minimum for a nice system (as opposed to a P4 and 1GB being fine for XP). Lots of people had older systems, tried the new OS, and got mad because it didn't work well. Duh. Newer software needs more resources.
New SOFTWARE needs better hardware, yes, that is the case, sometimes, but a new operating system is not the same as new software, the OS is there to allow other programs, the software that people actaully want to use, to make the most of the new faster hardware, not use it all itself.
the displaying of a phrase is a good start, but personaly i see it so rarely i wouldnt remember what it was, and if it wasnt there i probably wouldnt notice
they put them there because they can be used abroad with most banks, there are still a few shops in the uk that dont have chip and pin, and im fairly sure atm's use the stripe not the chip, at least some older models. also, its not like it cost them anything to put it there, probably more to remove it
but if a plumber cant maintain his toilet, thats when he's incompetent
as a developer there are many testing scenarios when its easier/quicker/only possible by being root, and the need to install and use lots of software means needing someone else to do that gets annoying, and if a developer can't spot virus ridden software who can...
have you tried the latest iphone games? there are some awesome intuative interfaces and great graphics.
my current favourite is 'eliminate pro', fully featured online shooter, load it up, play online, over 2/3g, play quick game on the bus, amazing.
what more could you want?
That said, OS X' universal files are pretty much on their way out, as Snow Leopard (10.6) doesn't play ball with PPC. As time goes on and people realize that x86 is a dead horse running, we might however see universal executables again, but then as ARM and x86.
on mac it seems x86 is already a dead horse, snow leopard still uses universal binaries, they contain 32 and 64 bit code, rather than x86 and powerpc code that leopard had.
some apps now contain up to 4 versions of the code, x86, x86_64, powerpc-32, powerpc-64
as a student, living in london, so basicaly have no money, £100 is still managable, and worth it, and better than paying for sky or cable which i would have to do otherwise
how can you possibly say the the 100 year old system of analogue 5 channel tv is better than around 30 channel freeview, its better quality, sufferers less from interferance, there is far more choice, more and more new channels are opening, (dave etc)
even with all those channels the bbc's content is some of the best in the world, no were else i have been has had such good tv as that which we get in the uk, and its all ad free! for £10 a month...
basicaly you sound like an old man, trying to live in the past and unable to accept change, even when it is so obviously better

The beliefs of about a third of the worlds populations is hardly ancient history.

it that 11k is truly useless it will never make it as far as the cache...
the rest of the world already see you like that

dev, i pay about $15 a month for my cable tv and 10mb internet...
It doesn't exactly, because the data part of the binary is shared
