  1. Not all slow things down on How to Turn Your PC into a Mac · · Score: 1

How does WindowBlinds slow things down? It replaces the Windows skin with a different one. That's like saying a red wallpaper is faster than a blue one.

How does ObjectDock slow down the system? It uses no CPU other than when you use it.

Just because Apple bundles stuff doesn't make it better. For years, the Mac was much slower than a similarly priced PC. Not that Mac users would admit it -- remember how fast the PowerPC supposedly was right up until the day before Apple announced the switch to the "bloated" and "primitive" Intel processor.

MacOS X is a great operating system, but there is also a lot of great software for Windows too.

Last two Stardock retail games won Editor's Choice Awards from Computer Gaming World. GalCiv I itself got a bunch of Editor's Choice Awards.

Here's a Gamespy review from today of GalCiv II.

    Why make it free?

Go and look at the Alexa.com ranking of WorldOfWarcraft.com (646).

The cost in these kinds of games is due to the massive network, IT, bandwidth and database resources. But we already have massive resources in those areas that are barely tapped for our non-games software.

BTW, by free we mean freeware. That means not adware or something.

Secondly, as someone pointed out, games like The Political Machine helped increase our overall revenue by a significant percentage because of all the new people that came in.

Since we can afford to make the game and we have the infrastructure to support it, then the game helps pave the way for exposing millions of people to TotalGaming.net and our non-game software.

As for an OS/2 version, who knows. It wouldn't be made by us though. We do plan Linux, MacOS, handheld, net-connected consoles and other platforms. However, what versions are supported will largely be based on who makes the client (so if a team of OS/2 developers volunteer to make an OS/2 client then sure).

There will be more info around E3.

  4. DesktopX already exists on Konfabulator Coming to Windows · · Score: 2, Informative

It's nice that Konfabulator is coming out for Windows but Arlo knows that Konfabulator is old news on Windows. Programs like DesktopX not only do everything (and more) and cost less, but have existed far longer than Konfabulator. http://www.desktopx.net.

And he also has to compete against freeware alternatives.

Here's an article that compares ALL of them:

  5. I'm here! ;) on Galactic Civilizations Coming Soon · · Score: 1

Yea, the GalCiv series sold over 30k copies total. Not much by today's standards but for an OS/2 game not too shabby.

As for my involvement on the new one, the biggest difference is that I had a whole team to work with. But I did write the economic and computer AI for the new GalCiv.
