If I caught a student installing software on a computer without permission, I'd recommend they be expelled, regardless of what they were installing. If I caught you changing lanes without using your turn signal I'd recommend having your driving privileges revoked for life, regardless of the fact that the punishment doesn't fit the crime.
I don't think they should be stopped. I was just pointing out that, regardless of warnings and whatnot, there's always going to be people stupid enough to use it for wrong/dangerous/malicious purposes.
I've never been one of the people that sports a tinfoil hat, and now I can't because they'll know when I go to the store, what I bought, how much I payed for it and what I was thinking when I bought it.
I agree with letting Darwin "do his work", as it were, but you'd be surprised at how boredom begets stupid. While in school in the Navy to become a Corpsman (medic) I heard countless stories of many marines fucking themselves up with their K-Bars (think Rambo knife). Marines don't have their own medical personnel, so the Navy fills that billet. One of the better stories was a Marine who wondered whether his flack jacket would stop his K-Bar, so he wrapped his flack jacket around his THIGH. For those of you who don't know, a flack jacket will not stop a pointed object from penetrating. Anyway, he stabbed himself in the thigh, severing his femoral artery. Similar story with two Marines, only one was wearing the jacket and the other had the K-Bar....knife wound to the chest and a dead Marine.
When I was in school I was punished for doing anything with a computer that wasn't within the teacher's scope of instruction; making spreadsheets and word processing. Most parents know next to nothing about how to operate a PC outside of simple browsing and email. Anything else is intimidating techno-wizardry. Teaching more advanced computer classes in grade school could easily reduce that "cost." I've found parents are more than willing to take little Bobby's advice on computer related topics, because at least he can program the damned VCR.
You would think so, but since putting Final Fantasy II on my GF's PSP and her subsequent inability to put the damn thing down, I believe the two addictions cancel each other out.
High school and college student grades are expected to be at an all time low this fall semester. Also, the words "fuckstick", "fag", "asshat", "shitcock" and phrases such as, "your mom " and "oh yeah?! where do you live, bitch?! i'll kick your ass!" are expected to be at an all time high.
I use a Logitech marble mouse (the fore and middle finger trackball type), as well. Had the original one for almost 8 years. It was an xmas gift from my friend's dad when I was still easing my way into geekhood. My sister inherited it with my old computer, though. It might still work, but the last time I was at her house it wasn't in use. Her and her husband don't use the computer enough to bother with getting used to it. Bought the newer 4-button version and mapped the small left button to scroll. It's a beautiful thing. Even thinking about getting one for work, since they're so cheap now.
I don't think it's a weakness as much as it is a malfunction. That's like saying someone with MS can use will-power to get up and walk around in the latter stages of their disease. My grandmother is paranoid schizophrenic. One day she just snapped. She heard/saw things that weren't there. She thought everyone was plotting against her. An example: She went through an ENTIRE carton of cigarettes in one sitting; She would light one, take a drag, say it tasted funny and repeat for the entire carton. She thought they were all poisoned and that everyone in the house was trying to kill her. She was convinced that my grandfather had a secret account with 100's of thousands of dollars in it that he wasn't telling her about. She would see my younger brother around the place even though he was states away. When your mind is malfunctioning to that degree how can you call it a weakness, and not a disorder?
I got a C&D from NBC for downloading a couple of episodes of Heroes, using Optonline. Yeah, I could have watched it at their site, but I wanted to be able to put it on my PSP and watch it on the train to/from work. The only effect it's had on my d/l habits is to not d/l anything that is produced or distributed by NBC, which isn't really that much of a loss.
Perhaps I am naive, but it seems that the wording in that document could be interpreted any number of ways. For instance, could you not call Congress forcing the President's hand in taking troops out of Iraq undermining efforts to promote democracy, etc, thereby enabling the Sect. of Treasury to freeze the assets of any Congressman that voted against the President's wishes? Just a train of thought. Please feel free to laugh at, point out and correct my ignorance.
So, now you have a group of people with high IQ's trying to convince one another that *their* idea on the best way rid the valley of Count Bludsuckingfiend, which leads to much chart-drawing and counter-pointing. All the while the good Count is systematically draining their daughters' circulatory systems.
Now, you've got the low IQ guys, whose first thought may be "Der...maybe we should just kill him." The other two guys, not having any better idea, happily go along with the first.
A classmate of mine a couple of years back had his wallet stolen while he was at the gym. His account was emptied by the next day because a lot of cashiers don't bother to check ID against a debit/credit card. The bank (Navy Federal) had his money back to him by the end of the week. The bank wasn't responsible for the loss of his money. If anything it was a combination of my classmate's negligence to lock his shit up and the cashiers involved in not checking ID. Still, the bank returned his funds, speedily. Why should it be any different if you don't secure your computer?
Now, if they start talking about details of military lifestyle, what it's like in the trenches, etc then they may be talking out their ass. But that's a separate matter. That is the matter I was referring to. I'm not saying anything about the Govt. policy or the idiocy with which it is implemented. I don't agree with it. We shouldn't be over there...we should never have gone. My problem is with berating men and women who are doing a job.
I don't think that we're doing any good over there, and I don't think we should have gone over there at all. If you'll read my previous posts you'll see that my problem is with people who would say that the soldiers share the same agenda as our ignorant President and his cronies. I'm merely pointing out that they are doing a job. Some agree with it and some done, but it's not as easy as handing in a resignation or not showing up for work, like we can do. If you decide to stop going to work one day, you don't end up with a federal arrest warrant issued for you.
And that's fine, that sacrifice for some people and not for others. My gripe isn't with people that aren't willing to make that sacrifice, it's with people who unthinkingly attack the people who do.
Also, the first part of your comment confuses me. Which part of my statements are contradictory?
Anyway, that's my point really. They may join the military never knowing whether they'll go to war, with whom they'll be at war with and what their capacity will be in that conflict, but they do it because they swore they would. There are plenty of people who leave the military because they don't agree with what is being done, and I have a lot of respect for those people, too. As I said before, my problem is with people who berate anyone serving in the military, especially those who don't understand that it is, more or less, just a job. There aren't very many people in the military who *want* to go out and fight.
Vetinari for President! Seriously, we could do with a few of our current officials hanging upside down in the scorpion pit.
If your phone is a node how easy would it be to listen in on conversations compared to how the phone systems currently work?

I often socialize with myself. I blame it on the lack of a Christian upbringing.
Lends a whole new, dark humor to the whole "I'm not George, I'm Fred..." running gag. "F-F-Fred...you're alive?!"
Nah, WoW doesn't have nearly enough named NPCs to kill off to warrant that name. Zing!

World of Warcraft: Wrath of my Girlfriend! There, two birds...one stone.

Wasn't there some stories about religious zealots threating professors who taught evolution recently? It all begins to make sense now...
I wouldn't call the name abstract, as miro is Spanish for "I watch." Seems perfectly suitable to me.

Start a compost heap! Takes care of the grass clippings and any organic garbage you produce.
