As we grew up, we watched our heroes (eg; the people we looked up to) throw away their ideals in the name of pragmatism. We watched wars, and death, and crime, and no one seemed to be punished for doing "bad" things.

And when you grow up a little bit more, you'll realize that just because someone doesn't "seem" to be punished for doing bad things that it doesn't mean they aren't. When people realize that their soul/spirit/conscience/karma suffers from doing "bad" things, and take steps to stop doing those bad things, well, then we finish growing up. Keep going.

And if you still need heroes, look to the people who found a way not to do bad things as they aged, and make them your heroes.

I disagree with you, waiting for the magic man in the sky or the dancing nymph in the tree to "balance" the karmic universe isn't growing up, it is simply justification of "why bad things happen".

This sounds essentially like what we already have, except rather than letting players go to the mobs, the mobs come to the players. How is this different then kill and respawn mechanics? Are there a limited number of mobs per server? What happens when you run out of mobs? Game over? Do more mobs spawn and are just out of sight of the player? What is the player suppose to do while he waits for the mobs to come back? How long does it take for mobs to wander back in? While your idea is interesting on the surface, and actually would be quite fun on a small scale, it won't work well with 2-4k people on a server over 5-10 years. I do understand that this is just an example and that you are not a game designer etc etc. However, I wanted to point out that if the solution to changing the formula was as easy as you make it sound, it would have been done already.

A few hundred bucks can be a lot of money with a family. I have seven computers and that few hundred dollars starts to add up when you multiply it by the number of computers in the home. I seriously doubt I am all that unique in the amount of computers I have running, the computer is becoming much like the television before it. Remember the scene from Back to the Future where Michael J. Fox tells the kids he has two T.V.'s in his house and the kid is just amazed, well it's the same things. Right now running I have, 2 x Gaming machines running Windows XP 64 bit edition ( each has 4+ gigs of RAM) 2 x School Machines running Ubuntu (my kids are home schooled) 1 x Media Computer hooked up to my T.V. running WindowsXP MC 1 x Laptop for work running Windows XP Pro (Used for VPN etc) 1 x Ubuntu Box used for a Router I just bought Vista for the gaming machines for DX10. Now if I was to switch to a full Windows environment, we are looking at some serious dough and before you say that if I can afford seven computers I should be able to splurge on the software for em, well here is the thing, I only buy two computers every 2-3 years. The old systems get recycled into new uses. The point is, at 150 bucks a pop, 1050 is the price of a entirely new system and that is just too much money for me to spend to upgrade all my systems. If it wasn't for DX10, I wouldn't be moving to Vista at all. If Microsoft would offer Vista for 250 bucks and up to 5 installs, I would be more then happy to buy it. Just a side note, I don't pirate windows either, each copy I use is bought and paid for.

I didn't stop buying EMI records (or any other big label) because they kicked my puppy or slapped a baby or anything, I have no "hate" towards the label or any of it's employees. It was a simple case of not approving of their business tactics and not buying their merchandise. If you want to "hate" a company, thats your business, but it is bad form to bash on someone just because they don't share your opinion.

Putting your insults aside, I will reply to the "meat" of your post. I am quite aware that EMI has just as much to blame for the actions of the RIAA as the organization itself, however, I also believe in rewarding those that learn from their mistakes and not continuing to punish someone or something even after they have changed their practices. It is like training a dog, you give him a treat when he does what he is told and you don't when he doesn't do what he is told. Eventually the dog learns if he wants a treat, he has to obey me, training the Music Industry is no different. (ok I lied, I will stoop to your level) If this concept is too difficult for you to grasp, may I recommend a "Dog Training for Dummies book".

When I say significant I mean like 60%+ cut.

I am not trying to be sarcastic, but I believe many people feel that because it is aliens and not humans being murdered, that it is ok. I mean, the rule is simple, Thou shalt not kill, yet people kill animals all the time for food or whatever, sometimes just for sport. This is ok because they are not human, the commandment should read, thou shalt not kill thy fellow human being. The Bible has always been vague on most topics, this ensures that it can be interrupted however it is needed at the time.

Not really, for a gaming genre there are not that many choices out there, not when you think about it. Half of the MMO's on the Market are already 1-2+ years old, I don't know about you but for me, if I play a game for two years, I start looking for something new. Right now, there is nothing new out there to go play. What gives that saturated feel is the very nature of the MMO, which is a long term commitment to a single game, I mean look at the first generation MMO's, UO/EQ/AO/AC all but one of those are still on the market. If we look at current generation MMO's out right now, the list is pretty short, EQ2/WoW/VSoH/EvE/LoTRO I wouldn't call that saturated at all. just my two cents *Please note I am only referring to North American titles and not including the numerous Asian MMO's such as FlyFF, Sword of the New Word, Lineage II etc etc. IMHO these fall into a subset category of MMO titles.
