  1. Re:Oil Companies on Quantum Dot Recipe May Lead To Cheaper Solar Panels · · Score: 3, Insightful

Technically you cant 'stop consuming their damn product' unless other companies stop too. Everything comes in plastic and plastic comes from oil. Even computer parts come wrapped in some form of plastic. If you dont drive a car you probably need to take the bus, train and/or other method of public transit to get to and from places. Even electric powered vehicles are probably getting their power by burning oil at some point along the line (though it could be nuclear which isnt as bad it comes with its own unique set of problems). These oil companies are not just in oil. They are in energy. Energy is what Oil is essentially after all. They're big because they manage to worm their way into every nook and cranny of every other business they deal with.

Slavery is illegal. Fixing all of AOL's security holes would require him being there for a lifetime. I'm not condoning what the kid did... well ok maybe in a roundabout way. AOL should fess up that their own internal security is not as good as they would lead everyone to believe. It sounds like their Security Team is not doing nearly as much penetration testing as they should be. You want good penetration testers hire the kid on instead of frying his ass in court. Obviously if you give the kid a check and a contract and let him hack in the direction of your servers 24/7 if he wants as long as he reports the vulnerabilities to your security team it sounds like it'd work out for everyone involved. Of course I havent read the article so I dont know exact details of said hacking so maybe what the kid did isnt exactly conductive to giving him a job.

And guess what... DMCA protects them from you removing their spyware! So if you use spybot or AdAware you're gonna be breaking the law. Nice to see the politicians are looking out for big business though. Who else wants to incorporate with me so we can get a crapload of legal immunities?

Any system admin/forensics expert knows you dont boot a drive up in windows. You mount it in Linux with no-write flags and stuff so your system doesnt contaminate the drive's contents accidentally.
