And as long as you pay a significant premium for a laptop which isn't as easily upgraded, a lot of home users will continue to buy a desktop.
That's pretty hilarious. Even 3 years ago, laptops made up around 70-75% of home computer sales vs desktops. And the laptop share is probably even higher today. "A lot of home users" are not doing what you claim because the people buying desktops are an ever shrinking minority.
That being said, it's weird that nobody has yet targeted Apple, who is certainly an order of magnitude more restrictive than Google, and is as much, or more loaded than Google...
Why is it weird? In what market are they the dominant position?
The requirement that medical researchers register in detail the methods they intend to use in their clinical trials, both to record their data as well as document their outcomes, caused a significant drop in trials producing positive results. From Nature: "The study found that in a sample of 55 large trials testing heart-disease treatments, 57% of those published before 2000 reported positive effects from the treatments. But that figure plunged to just 8% in studies that were conducted after 2000.
Those of us from a hard science background always had our doubts about this sort of stuff
Maybe you should have been using those doubts for introspection? I can easily find numerous retractions from "hard science" journals plus it's easy to find a number of similar studies showing reproducibility in "hard" science medical research and drug trials.
So is medical science not "real science" because we've had quite a few stories over the last few years that a ton of results from medical research and drug trials can't be reproduced.
Plus this would provide a huge economic boom to criminals now that the barriers to entry would be lowered. Maybe that's how he was planning to increase GDP growth?
In what way? Uber doesn't buy their drivers' cars, they don't buy their drviers' commercial insurance or practically anything else. What is all this infrastructure you mention?

Chrome 44 isn't older than Chrome 45?
Doubtful. Most of their customers aren't likely even going to be aware of the change in the first place.

Instead you have Lexmark suing toner cartridge refilling companies for patent infringement.

Indeed it is true.
Based on what evidence? A couple of Slashdot anecdotes != evidence.
Or this one from just under 2 weeks ago:

reproducibility *problems* in "hard" science medical research and drug trials
Fixed for myself.

I took it as sentitivity in general. The Z direction is a pretty minor piece of functionality. X,Y is far more important to most people.
If pressure sensitivity was just a "minor piece of functionality" then no one would be using WACOM products.
Cool story, brah.
Unfortunately, that isn't what they meant by sensitive. "Sensitive" was in reference to pressure sensitivity.
Um, no shit?
Couldn't even be bothered to read the summary where it claims that the "whole internet" is powered by Linux?
Diarrhea of the mouth syndrome.
So Scotsman don't exist in your universe?
Yes, it is. We should be even more strict in what the 4th Amendment covers. Fuck Jeb Bush and his ilk.
Plus this would provide a huge economic boom to criminals now that the barriers to entry would be lowered. Maybe that's how he was planning to increase GDP growth?
People used to say the exact same thing about his brother.
Was that supposed to be funny?
This is getting ridiculous, when there is evidence that could solve multiple murders and they have it so locked down that even LEO cannot get at it.
How do you know what is on the phone would solve the murder?
That type of encryption is for the government, not for joe six-pack.
10/10. Excellent troll, good sir!
And you don't even need to believe me. Scroll to the bottom of this page and read this disclaimer that exists on all BB 10 pages about Android apps:
Android app support and compatibility will vary by smartphone and/or software version.
And also notice how they only mention being able to install apps from Amazon's App Store not Google Play.
QNX can run all Android applications and has for quite some time now.
No, it can't run all Android applications and even BlackBerry doesn't claim that.
Drones have this new technology called the "Global Positioning System" or GPS. It is pretty new which is why you may never have heard of it before.
Can you just admit you were wrong?
Uber has a ton of infrastructure investment
In what way? Uber doesn't buy their drivers' cars, they don't buy their drviers' commercial insurance or practically anything else. What is all this infrastructure you mention?
