Never said it was an excuse.

I'm still not convinced he's "just an asshole" (though I'm sure he is that as well), But I do believe he has a base of strong conviction about this issue... problem arises when someone isn't open to arguments anymore (which he had demonstrated) and uses any means to get what he wants, no matter how morally dispicable.

To me, it's obvious this man doesn't deserve a legal license, but I'm not one to easily dismiss his ramblings as being just an arsehole...

You fanboy! ;) Well to each his / her own I suppose. I do believe most people (that I know anyway, but I have to admit, I do live in a cave) think the PSP is prettier... Nonetheless, I'm sure you'll have tons of fun with your WII, just like I'm having with my PS3... and others with their XBox360... (Why again are we so hostile against eachother? Was there a memo I missed?)

Nice idea, but I think you're over estamating the costs. Currently 24Mbps ADSL costs about 20 euro (= about 25 dollar) a month here in the Netherlands... so either I have holes in my pockets and I don't think that's that expensive, or it's just the latter...

So just maybe, the costs aren't as high as they seem... it's just that companies are charging much more, dependant on the demand of high speed connections in a certain country. ... Hooray for capitalism! (No, I'm not a "socialist", just think you'll have to wait untill the highend demand become mainstream in any country where the price is too high...)

Yeah... very convincing. I'm sorry, but of the 100.000 of people currently running their PS3 for the F@H project, only an extremely small fraction would probably donate anything they save on their electric bill. And allthough I'm really behind all this green energy, this should not be the reason not to run it. And calling it silly is an insult to the university running this program... I for one, have more faith in them for using the processing power in a meaningfull way. I'm sorry, but even if someone doesn't like the PS3, I'm still amazed how a news item like this could possibly be warrent for another round of PS3 bashing. It's a good thing they are using the F@H program on the PS3 to do some good in medical research, period. No matter if you like the PS3 or not.

Well, I actually don't think he does this to "harass or subdue an adversary"... I think he honestly believes in what he's saying, but unfortunately even more so in his own ego... That, and I think he's gone insane actually... I'd bother with explaining why, if everybody didn't allready get it...
This time, Sony is up against a determined Microsoft, who was first to market in the generation, and a seriously damned strong Nintendo, which has single-handedly revolutionized gaming. I shit you not man, they are THE force in bringing gaming to the masses. The GBA SP was a big first step in that direction, being the first handheld game system that a) could comfortably fit in almost anyone's pocket and b) didn't look like a fisher-price toy.
Well I guess the GBA SP design is up for debate and I'd certainly follow if it's more about the games than the design, but come-on, the PSP look WAY better than the GBA SP (or DS for that matter). Also, I'd give Nintendo points for breaking up an entire new market, but the previous game market doesn't seem to have decided yet which platform to adopt. With XBOX360 & PS3 sales figures close to PS2 & XBOX sales a couple of years ago, and the WII selling like crazy to the new market segment, I'm not so sure who will win... And you shouldn't be either, as this "war" will probably be "decided" not until late 2008, at the earliest.

Further on, you mention the difficulty of programming for the PS3, and while I wholeheartedly agree, this is not as big an issue as it might seem. The same was true for the PS2, and although the XBOX has been around for some time now, the PS2 is still vastly outselling them. All it takes is some time for the studio's to get used to the new system, and the user decides in the end... Oh and don't forget a lot of programmers still like a challenge, and favoring the most technological advanced system. Multi-Core processing is a requisite for any future game anyway.

In the end offcourse, the debate is quite useless. Consumers will decide, and no matter what, they won't be as easily predicted as many poll-businesses or other slashdot posters will have you believe. Guess we will just have to wait and see.

Internet is a gateway to information. A way to exchange ideas... all by typing and clicking on your computer. I'm not so sure it's a foolish assumption of Square, considering the following of the series, but it's a risk nonetheless... Even so, I'm glad they're taking that risk. It enables them to build an ever bigger world and storylines, which is the most compelling element of the FF series to me. Personally, I which more game develop companies would take risks like that (in general offcourse, I don't want 10 years of Rub-a-dub storylines ;).
