Well either Fujitsu-Siemens did a complete 180 on the quality of their notebooks in the past couple of years, or that list is completely unreliable. Our university who always sold heavily subsidized Toshiba to students went to Fujitsu-Siemens for 1 year and it was a total disaster... If I remember correctly the failure rate was quadruple of those of the Toshiba. (And we're talking thousands if notebooks, so chances on dumb luck are quite slim. Could also be they just had a bad batch or something, but I've never heard about that happening to the Toshiba notebooks.)
So I'm seriously doubting those numbers are adjusted in the right way for market share. That or Toshiba users are much bigger n00bs than FS users (which could very well be), but that only proves even more so, that you can't use those numbers for actual reliability comparison.
You sir, are an idiot! (Also good mod.)
Anyway, before this thread turns into a big sony bashing orgasm, cos all good news for teh PS3 obviously warrants that, I'll just mention I'm getting this if they'll keep the price not much over 100 dollars/euro for the hardware addon, and it supports HD (which I presume it will). Nice extra for my media machine I'd say. A nice 300 gig or so 3.5" Harddisk won't hurt either I suppose.
Also, for added randomness and since Fox had this nice piece on Anon a short while ago I'll end with:
Tits or GTFO.
for the "Corrupted LOL" off course.
I find it hilarious and slightly sad that a positive news item for the PS3, only results in people making fun of / bashing Sony / Rockstar, when a negative article posted a few hours later about the 360, results in serious discussion in the replies on the article.
I mean, I'm not one to say "oh the poor multibillion dollar company", but this is bordering on ridiculous: Is Google really that evil or are the 5 or so lawsuits I've been hearing about in just 2 weeks against them maybe a bit much?
Hey, if you got a insanely fast connection, you might as well have a insane amount of ram, say 10-20GB? That said, why not add 500 Gigs of flash drive... oh and 10 TB of harddrive offcourse.
There are more fun games out there (for example Stardust HD & Oblivion), but I don't think anyone should argue that the XBOX360 has a better line up at the moment. Offcourse the PS3 is younger, so that counts for some, but it could've been done a lot better. Combine that with piss-poor marketing and you got a so-so year.
But I'm amazed that any positive news from Sony gets turned into one big "Sony is stupid" fest EVERY time here on Slashdot and other online communities. It almost makes me think I must be weird that I have a PS3, a friend of mine has a XBOX360 and we never argue about which systems better. I watched all the E3 pressconferences live through IGN and wheter it was the best conference ever is very much up for debate, but it's obvious to me and from what I've read online from the people from the industry as well, that Sony made the biggest impression.
I got very excited about Killzone 2, Lair (both good examples why a DVD-space will not do), Warhawk, Infamous and getting UT3 this year (don't care much about MGS4 personally) and the fact they'd be vastly optimizing the UT3-engine for PS3 so that other games will get better graphics as well.
That said, I'm sure a lot of XBOX360 owners got excited (and rightly so) by Halo 3 and Mass Effect. And offcourse both "sides" will love to see the cross platform stuff like COD4, RE5 and others. What matters (or should matter) is that both systems will have great games by the end of the year, that will totaly justify putting your money down for either system. I personally like the BluRay movies I bought as well, I know it wowed a lot of friends of mine as well, but if you don't care about such things, that's fine too.
Enough ranting, let's go back to enjoying our own systems.
Final note: I really wanted to see more of FFXIII, too bad it wasn't featured. Can't have it all I guess.
Well actually, the game was played before a live audience for 15 minutes, so everyone that attended can verify that the graphics from the trailer are in fact in-game graphics.
Now let's hope the gameplay's as impressive as the graphics.
It's never too late for EA to reinvent themselves, question is: will they, or is this an empty gesture? As almost 50% of all the weekly top 10 PC titles come from EA, they have the money to make this work, so I really hope they mean it.
Problem with originality and innovation is that it brings inherent risk with it and all I've seen EA doing so far, is playing it safe with their zillions of franchises. They could try to bring innovation to those, but I would really rather see them making some new orginal content. But we'll see.
Funny thing is, most companies actually live by this rule. A friend of mine who had his own IT company tried to sell his IT solution to some other company for 20k, they didn't bite. 1 year later, that IT company made another offer under a different name, this time 200k (with no real difference)... and they had a deal.
Well, a quick look around the site suggest this is actually a legitimate newsgroup host. They don't seem to directly promote piracy (not more than giganews anyway), so I don't think this is another entrapment thing.
With all the news coverage, I'm betting miivi.com got a lot of hits and that german company bought it from a broker or somthing like that. Can never be sure though, and since there are better newsgroup hosters out there: who cares.
That's all very true, but you missing some of the point as well: not every downloaded song / movie is missed income to the artist (and label/studio behind them). In fact, I'd wager over 90% of the downloaded content wouldn't otherwise be converted into an actual sell.
As far as I see it, there are only 2 viable solutions:
1) Double the costs of bandwith costs and give halve to the entertainment industry (devided by downloads) and completely legalize it.
2) Give the public a real alternative, that's what AllOfMP3 did (many formats, low prices, drm-free) and why it was so popular even *after* everyone knew it wasn't legal. Give the public a legal version of AllOfMP3 and I'm sure the entertainment industry could be making more then before the time of P2P.
Right, I didn't mean criminal charges offcourse... But it's still a civil case, even in the USA right? I mean it's the copyrightholder or some RIAA like organization that charges you, not the local police / fbi, isn't it?
Actually, as far as I'm concerned, you're both a bit right. Invention should be stimulated and such, with possible funds from the commercial world, as well as by the general people (government... at least in a (semi)perfect world). But the current intellectual property rights are a bit much as well... I mean after 5 - 10 years (depending on the gravity of the invention) it should become public domain. Not after 150 years.
It's simple, especially in the entertainment business... if you are still only gaining money from something you thought off, 5-10 years ago, either think of something new or you lose the right to gain that much money from it. Please note: they can still money from it, but then, they wouldn't be the only one.
I even think it's vital for scientific progress that any invention (especially non-cultural) is a free-for-all after a reasonable time, because else only a few can expend on the invention, instead of everyone.
True enough, but don't think they haven't known about this for quite some time... I think it's only a matter of time until Disney negotiates a Disney land in China from which they can profit.
Thank you for that comment, very thorough and interesting. But I think I might've wrote my argument down wrong.
What I mean is that, the employer is the first one to be liabel, and only if they can give sufficiant prove (which is normally very hard) it wasn't them but someone else, they can get off the hook. Not the other way around. So allthough not without risk, I'd say it's safer than most imagine.
I'm not sure this applies to US law as well, but it applies to most laws in the western world: if you have proved as an employee that you were "forced" to do something (or didn't know what you were ordered to do) is illegal, the company is the one who's F-ed. Actually, in almost any liability case, the company is the one that gets F-ed, so what you are saying is simply not true.
I'd recommend the guy in this situation to document the mails or whatever and just go along... it's just not worth your job to go all righteous over something as trivial as copyright infringement.
Seriously though, I'm pretty sure they don't say an animal's life is more important than a human's life... Not even the PETA says that, though they're a bit more extreme on that matter as far as I'm concerned. Greenpeace is more about environmental issues... that and they don't seem big proponents of clubbing baby seals (no not baby (navy) SEALS) to death, which I can get behind. (And any non-food and non-medical abuse of animals.)
I can't agree with everything they stand for (especially on the nuclear power issues), but what you're suggestion is pretty much insane ("...consider them a terrorist support organization").
True, but I hope you're not suggesting that this means that we shouldn't use environment friendly technology.
Apart from some anti-globalwarming propaganda and some genuinely "worse than burning oil" forms of eco-energy, a lot is worth our attention. And I for one, welcome our... ok, I won't go there, but I really think this kind of research is vital, if we want to keep our wealth and as for that matter, keep using our precious internet and therefore... SLASHDOT!!!
So give a hoot, don't you po-ffing-lute... or at least try to lower it... mmm-kay?
Hey now, aren't you suppose to take a side? I mean preferably the good and shining Nintendo's, but being an evil Sony's lacky will do as well...
Are we SlashDot posters turning into reasonable people now? What's next? Hot summer days during the winter seasons? Bush preventing World War III? Aliens eating my head?
Ah, did I step on somebody's toe? Although I have no respect for people calling others fanboys, you seem to try to make a valid point as well, so I'll reply just this once.
"Xbox1 was taking of the market like 1.5 years ago" -> that's why I said a couple of years ago.
"5.7 games per 360. Under 2 for PS3" Allthough I wonder if these numbers are correct (could be), you do realize that the 360 has been on the market a full year before the PS3 right? The PS3 would be doing extremely well if it had allready surpased the 360 in that front.
"Have fun running Folding@Home 1.3 this X-mas." Hehe, yes I will... still you don't seem to grasp that the console "war" hasn't been decided at all yet... That was the point of my post and I'm not saying the PS3 will win, but come on... it has only just begun.
Now can we all please stop this stupid argument and enjoy our PS3's / Xbox360's / WII's?
"What have you done for your beliefs? I'm not praising him for what he has done and many people don't agree with them. I'm praising him for his conviction. I wish everyone had that same dedication for their beliefs, then there wouldn't be the discussion about 'fair use' and IP issues."
Though it's a nice sentiment, and I agree some people should act more and talk less, it's also a bit of a rediculous notion: "I wish everyone had that same dedication..."? If that were true you'd have a million lawsuits a day and 100 million people trying to be president... As sad as it sounds, any democracy needs sheep... let's just try to keep those sheep well-informed...
And Google just perceives everything to be still in beta!
