I got rid of my full sized, loaded Iconia because it just didn't fit anywhere in my user profile. Who needs/wants GPS, cameras, weight, and all that? My iPhone does those things perfectly well(using it now). I wanted something exactly like the Kindle Fire. Most of the complaints I have can be resolved by software updates. The on/off button location is annoying, though. Some apps force a certain orientation, thereby negating the "turn it over" option.
I have a Revolution that I bought from Into The Wind. (www.intothewind.com)
I have a Sony DSCP7 with a 64 meg memory stick.
I sewed a ziplock bag to the center of the kite, then placed the camera in it with a piece of duct tape acting as a spacer in order to keep the camera aimed at me when in flight. I used a bit more duct tape to back up my sewing.
I put it on video mode, had a friend press the button before launch, and let it rip.
The frame rate isn't wonderful, but the video is quite fun to watch(repeatedly).
I've got a larger "big wing" from ITW that I've thought about attaching my DV camcorder to.
What we really need are features making it easier for blind citizens to tell the different bills apart. I find it hard to believe some of the more prominent advocacy groups haven't pushed this harder.
"I feel about as bad about this as when I was told AOL/Time-Warner lost 90 Billion last year"
A corporation is an entity made up of PEOPLE. When companies do badly please realize that the employees are hurt by layoffs, pay cuts, etc. Slashdot readers need to realize this. Companies are not evil. They provide MONEY TO PEOPLE FOR DOING STUFF. That whole trickle down economics thing.. Remember?
>Hmmm, globalization, corporatization and >deregulation of everything isn't helping >consumers, big shock.
Guess what. It's not working because it's not a FULL deregulation. Businesses should be allowed to run themselves with a MINIMAL(if any) amount of regulation. When the government "deregulates" things like the phone company, or the power companies in California, it's not REALLY deregulating anything. It's removing SOME of the laws and regulations on that industry but APPLYING others that the government >thinks will help. Since when does the stupid federal government know how to run a business well? It doesn't. Yet it continues to place restrictions on these industries. Then, everyone wonders why that industry has problems(see the power blackouts in California). Then all you pitiful whiney consumers riding the anti-capitalism train start yelling and screaming that the companies are trying to screw the consumers.
Companies exist to make money. They want it. To think that they'd willingly hold off on developing a potentially lucrative aspect of their business is simply crazy talk.
Geez, you people make me sick. The Republican party isn't perfect but they sure care a lot more about privacy, the FREE market, and individual rights than the Democrats. Stop being spoon fed what you read in the liberal media. Somebody has to be correct about this matter, why not read up and make your own decision.
If they have spoofed results NOW, how is opening the client going to do anything but give them MORE spoofed results. I do say that they have a fundamental problem in the way they're conducting their system, but open sourcing the client isn't going to fix anything, it'll make it worse. Probably.
This has nothing to do with security. It has a lot to do with returning correct/incorrect results in a scientific experiment. Apparently S@H is already having problems with people modifying clients, and/or submitting invalid data. Giving people the client code will not help that. It will allow individuals more control over screwing with the data. Of course, they do need to implement better controls for their experiement.
Releasing the client as Open Source is not a good idea. SETI@Home is a real-time science experiment. Having an open client circulating around with some people using it, and others not, would invalidate any data being returned. The client needs to be STANDARDIZED, so that all results being returned are STANDARD. Having people modifying the client at will would really mess up the inner workings of the experiment. What if one person got the source, and somehow modified it to return data that "looked" like some intelligent transmission from ET? Experiments need to have standards and controls, open sourcing the client would not work.
I did go read several of those articles. Your link showed effects of the sanctions. The sanctions are in place in order to influence Saddam's habits. If Saddam complied with the wishes of the UN then those sanctions would be lifted. But no, he decides to build several presidential palaces. I only stated that Saddam doesn't have his people's interests at heart. I did not mention my views on the sanctions.
First, a woman doesn't have a right to kill a baby. Babies are a direct result of sex. If you're going to screw, be prepared for the consequences.
Chronic overpopulation? Bah, ridiculous.
Suffering? Yes, I'll agree there is suffering. Suffering and hunger are caused by MAN, nature has plenty to offer for food. It's not that we're over-running our planet's capabilities. It's that certain governments or rulers are either unable or unwilling to do what it takes to get their people food. Saddam Hussein for instance... Clearly he is a ruler that does not have his people's best interests at heart.
Firstly, I hope knarf's response really was sent off to Jack. It does a good job of pointing out the errors. I also hope it was sent off to the editor at andover news, so that they know what kind of response the article has churned up.
I also want to make a call to all those in the Linux community: Articles like this are posted all too frequently. Journalists don't seem to care about the crap they're spreading. Please take it upon yourself to reply to the writers of these articles, explain to them what they've said that is incorrect. Also, write their editors! If that web site gets thousands of emails that point out the errors, I'm fairly certain that they'd pay attention.

The submitter's description of the article was completely incorrect and backwards.
Diversity of hardware makes ROOT DNS SERVERS more defensible. Akamai is NOT diverse, and they do not want to be.
I did this very thing yesterday!

Geez people. It's actually a BAD bill that we DO NOT want passed.
I've been trying for a while to figure out where I recognized Jon Katz' writing style from.
That's how I wrote at 2am in highschool when I had a term paper due the next day.
The wonderful thing about our government is that even though the DMCA is terrible we HAVE REMEDIES TO STRIKE IT FROM THE BOOKS.
Enough people didn't chime in back when the DMCA was being drafted, and now it's The Law.
This is our second chance. The DMCA is being tested in a court of law.
Even if it's upheld, we can still appeal it! Numerous times!
No matter what any of you think about this individual law the USA's system of law is great.

Journalistic integrity might be an issue if Malda and Bates ever actually WROTE STORIES about something.

OPEN SOURCE IS NOT ALWAYS THE ANSWER.
Doh!
I do not think this article deserved being moderated down to 0.
It would've been nice to know a bit about his personal life(besides cars). I know several of us asked questions centering on that.
I did go read several of those articles.

Your games are entertaining. You have nice cars. Lots of people idolize you. But...
Are you happy with your life? Do you sleep well at night? Do you have close friends? Are you content?

In the Star Wars Universe there are also several books that do the same thing.
Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina
and
Tales from Jabba's Palace

Children of the Mind?
Well, I learn something new every day... I'll have to go buy this.. Been a while since I looked at anything from Mr. Card.
There are already sequels.
2. Speaker for the Dead.
