And, it is especially wonderful when you get ripped off by the manufacturer and Steam because the DLC you purchased from GfWL is no longer available as GfWL no longer exists, and the developer tells you "Hey, you need to buy that again, should you ever need to reinstall." and Steam tells you "Oh, yeah, new buyers get all that DLC for free. You, that have had the game for years, not so much."
And that is slowly driving me away from Google, along with it's "corrections" of your search. I search for a tech term like A, B, C and it "helps me" with AB C or AB and not C. Gah. STOP BEING SO HELPFUL, GOOGLE!
And the upgrade never worked for me, giving me "unspecified" errors, nothing useful could be found in any of the logs and Microsoft Support was a bunch of useless binder monkeys, providing support of the calibre of "Is it plugged in?"
Also, it was $15.
I dunno. I got one of those cheap upgrade keys and downloaded the package, and I was never able to get it to install. It would generate an unspecified error and I couldn't even find an error code to track down a fix. In addition, the customer support was a joke, spewing out the same generic "solutions" (of the class "Is the computer plugged in?"). So I gave up.
Well, Steam is pretty much lost me as a customer over me getting screwed on my Bioshock DLC purchase, so there's that. But I have too much stuff to throw it away.
Or, when Games for Windows Live shuts down, you lose DLC you paid for through it, and get told by Steam and the Publisher, "Yeah, well, you need to buy it AGAIN if you ever want to uninstall said game."
Mkay, can we PLEASE stop spamming this link? Yes, it is quite a good article, but you guys are reposting it more than "obligatory" XKCDs. or anti-Beta comments...

Did you read this about the weaknesses of systemd? (Oh, look, the SAME link!)

First thing that came to my mind when I saw the comment. But it was not the suits that caused the problem. It was their inability to skate arrhythmically with any speed.
Which I used to do a lot when I would play Jeopardy on the C64 during local BBS parties. Besides, if I buzz, at least I have a CHANCE to answer. If I don't buzz, then no chance. I can always try to figure out the answer after I read it.
I would argue that the current state of their decryption efforts might need to be kept classified, as much as it makes me vomit a little in my mouth. The problem being that if a hostile party knows their encryption is compromised, then they find new encryption.
Just read the blog. Not to be snarky, but I couldn't make it past the first page. Too sad.
All my best wishes to your friend and Sam and the family. Fingers crossed this gets approved. I lost someone very close to me, thanks to the complications from treating his leukemia.
On a different note, I really wish Slashdot wasn't so HTML-centric. It would be so much easier to express serious sentiments without code.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot! Seriously? Why do you have to be an iconoclast? Explain it using a CAR analogy already.
You and I both, frankly.

Not only that, but the picture of the woman towing the thing is unnervingly shopped.

And, TigerVNC server (which I REALLY wanted to like) for Windows would crash about 30 seconds into any session.
As long as it can give me decent video performance on my Intel GMA equipped netbook, I will be happy.
I tried to check it out. Can you throw in a LITTLE more info for those of us NOT in the know?

Apparently no one actually read the page...
Windows XP Mode follows the same support lifecycle as Windows XP—extended support will end April 8, 2014. Learn more about Windows XP end of support.

I actually kinda of got into Steam because of the whole "losing physical media" thing.

Our suits are BRUTAL! They are blacker than the blackest black...

The other nice thing about TeamViewer. NAT traversal WITHOUT leaving a port open.
Same here. TeamViewer works a treat and lets me support people whether I am in Windows or Linux that day.

Wow.
Just wow.

Like my stepfather. He was a P.E. teacher. He did not smoke, ate reasonably healthily, exercised regularly, and drank in moderation.
He died of complications, due to his treatment for hairy cell leukemia.
And this after surviving testicular cancer.
But you said you had journeyed there and back, not commuted. So, if you were posting from the moon right now...
