  1. CONTACT on Sci-Fi Books For Pre-Teens? · · Score: 3, Insightful

By Carl Sagan. Sci-fi mixed with a little bit of learning - can't go wrong. :)

Now I know why none of the other comments made any sense - I posted this in the wrong story! :)

  3. Further Decline of Society on Synthetic Molecules Emulate Enzyme Behavior · · Score: -1, Offtopic

We already spend more time on the internet and less time socializing. Now people are going to close curtains in the middle of the day to lower power bills. :(

  4. Drool over Drobo on What NAS To Buy? · · Score: 4, Informative

http://www.drobo.com/ Automatic RAID, hot-swappable and you can use any type/size/configuration of SATA drives. Upgrade as the price of drives go down. I've been using one for two months now and am very happy with it. I can watch a streaming movie while I yank out an 80GB to replace with a 500GB, and the movie doesn't even stutter once.

  5. Re:Tell her the truth.... on Science Documentaries for Youngsters? · · Score: 1

Will we ever know 100% Probably not. But right now we know 99% that we evolved. So I think it's fair to state it as fact, keeping in mind the fact can be debunked at any time.

I know - I didn't mean for it to be "funny". I really like how the cartoon covers some small points - like the mammal crawling into the hole in the ground just before the comet hit - and Moe evolving into something less. :)

  8. This happened to me... on No Right to Privacy When Your Computer Is Repaired · · Score: 4, Interesting

I was running a consulting company in Halifax just under a year ago, and a soldider from the armed forces had contacted me to fix his hard drive. While my tech was working on it, he discovered hundreds of gigabytes of porn, including many shots of young (pre-puberty) girls. The police had to get a search warrant for my office in order to legally seize the computer. The police did ask how we came across the images, because that was the most obvious way the case might have been thrown out. I never heard anything about the case again.

  9. This is great news! on IBM Predicts Massive Shifts In Advertising · · Score: 1

Let's face it - user fees would skyrocket if there was no advertising. I'd rather watch advertisements that cater to my interests, rather than tampon commercials!

  10. Let's hope they win! on First Nations Want Cellphone Revenue · · Score: 5, Funny

I want a precedent set. Then I will also sue for any cell phone waves passing over my private property. They are not the only ones with the "get everything and do nothing" attitude.

  11. Re:The date is wrong. on World Population Becomes More Urban Than Rural · · Score: 1

I didn't try to be exact in my approximation - far from it. My point was the number of users migrating was much too large. I even assume that on Tuesday (the day before) the number of urban and rural people were exactly the same. :)

  12. The date is wrong. on World Population Becomes More Urban Than Rural · · Score: 1

It is nice that they decided to choose Wednesday as the day it happened.

But looking at the numbers - 3,303,992,253 to 3,303,866,404 is a 125,849 difference. If we are to beleive that 126,000 people a day move to urban areas, in 71 years there would be no farmers left at all.

I'm sure the daily number is much smaller, meaning if we take these numbers - it happened before Wednesday.

  13. WHY is this pathetic? on Holocaust Dropped From Some UK Schools · · Score: 1

Other religions have been ignoring facts for years! Evolution and the thousands of dinosaur bones have been ignored by all the groups that believe a god created the earth 6000 years ago. If anything, maybe this turn of events will open a few more eyes and they will realize just because millions of people believe something doesn't make it true.

  14. Super Project? on Earth's Species To Be Cataloged On the Web · · Score: 1

This reminds me of projects I would have my peons complete in games like Civilization, Galactic Civiliations, Warcraft etc. It is being built to amaze the masses and focus our attention to the wonders of the internet. Once it is built it will give society a "bonus", but that bonus will be short lived. In 10 years who knows if we will even use the internet? In 10 years we could all be connected in a mesh wireless network, receiving public domain info as fast as we needed it.

One certainly doesn't need a tool like this now unless that person works for an institution (like the CDC) that will probably have a better database than the web one. But it is cool.

  15. Battlestar Galactica anyone? on DARPA Developing Defensive Plasma Shield · · Score: 1
