Don't bother with GSMP. I've had qcast for over a year now and they've yet to replace defective discs they promised they would over a year ago. It doesn't playback newer divx5 videos without massive frame pauses and drops. It doesn't support SVCDs resolution mpeg2 or any video over 512x384 or above about 1.5Mbits total bandwidth with audio.

They haven't released a promised "frequent update" in many many months.

They've quit responding to their customers and have generally left them out to dry.

It's pretty much a waste of the cost with the loss of any support what so ever.

I used to work for the Relay service and it was illegal to report ANYTHING short of a bomb threat on the facility you are currently working in. As far as the legality is concerned the relay agent is nothing more than a piece of the wire. They keep grief counselors on campus all the time because of some of the crap we had to relay.

Even judges can't legally compell agents to do anything other than relay the conversation. I had one attempt to swear me in once before he would let me relay the call. The manager of my center had to quote to law to the judge before he would give up on insisting I had to be sworn in.
(and since I wasn't actively relaying a conversation no this isn't confidential.)

Of course this may have changed since the whole terrorism acts but I doubt it. The advocates are relatively powerful for keeping agents as nothing more than a piece of the wire.

Have you actually been keeping up with some of the lawsuits and crap phone companies are going through or just reading slashdots "evil monopoly" reports and feel informed?

The phone companies are quickly coming to the conclusion that DSL is not worth the hassle of leasing their lines to competition for LESS than it costs them to install the lines. Can you come up with any reason a company would do this? I know if I were running the company DSL would have been dead a long time ago because of crap like this and having to put an equal # of DSL lines in lower income areas where DSL will NEVER sell because of equal access rules.

People whine all the time about this but never seem to read anything but the evil monopoly side of things here on slashdot.

The decision said, "we're not going to force you to sell quite as much of the infrastructure you've PAID to develop and the weasely little CLECs and ISPs want to steal for a lowered cost."

I'm honestly suprised phone companies are still around after all the stupid "anti monopoly" laws that are enforced on them. You should really work in the actual phone company before whining so much. you'd be amazed what you can't do as a phone company employee.

Why would anyone think that being forced to get rid of things you've produced AT COST OR BELOW is a fair thing? Why don't people whine about the cable companies not sharing all their infrastructure everytime we turn around? You want competetion? write your representative and say you want cable companies to open up their broadband to competing networks. Put them on the same level as the phone companies you people love to whine about.

Actually the phone companies like SBC are still HEAVILY regulated by the government..One of the issues that is slowing DSL rollout is the fact for every neighborhood that can afford to have DSL the phone company has to offer it to a ghetto area for "equal access" Thus the cost goes from a single $100,000 DSLAM to 2 $100,000 DSLAMS one of which will never EVER pay for itself.
