i have spamassassin run via kmail filter locally on a dual pII/350, and the load on both processors jumps to 98% for each email recieved. I recieve upwards of 200-300 a day, mostly to my legacy address (13 years running), but have been recently attacked with [random]@domain.com dictonary attacks. i just didn't want anyone out there claiming a bayesian spam filter has no 'issue with volume'... i'm considering using fetchmail to grab all my mail and using cron to run the filter on it at night... thank god the pII/350 is just in a closet somewhere and i don't actually use it for anything BUT email...
did anyone running RH9 notice that you recieve four, possibly five RHN secutiry updates via email today and yesterday, basically saying "we've been holding on to these until the last day, becuase we want you to upgrade to [your favorite rh release here] soon!"... for the first few hours, i was denied the basic up2date nonsense becuase of sever loads. it's a conspriacy, like everything else.
let's not forget that half the stuff that says 'made in USA' is actually made in the small manufacturing town of USA, japan. buy products made in the u.s.a.... i believe it was a wwII era thing, but i may be mistaken.
i can't belive that was modded 'troll'... opinion, but no troll. humph.
my most recent flight involved a screaming child and a obese mother sitting behind me, kicking and pushing my seat. that's never happened to ANYONE on/.? seriously... just would you want that loud business guy talking into his cell the whole flight while you sitting, crammed next to him, are trying to [read/sleep/code/etc]?
frankly, that's the last thing we need. maybe wireless internet in airplanes would be a good thing, but in such close quarters, do you really really want to be sitting next the bad smelling fat lady with the hairy mole holder her arm UP to make idle chitchat with her friend sitting at home watching jerry springer on their cell phones, because, well, they are 'IN'. shudder.
i am sure this has been covered before, but why doesn't slashdot go ahead an mirror a page in like cachedot.slashdot.org so when a link to a [seemingly] interesting article will still work. or maybe just mirror the images, or oh hell, nevermind.
honestly though, other legislation is in place where mickey could sue for libel or slander if his 'image' was made to do something disney didn't approove of.
the copyright laws just prevent anyone from even using a likeness of him for anything, which seems unfair.
emi has these great programs for breakthrough artists, where they 'do' stick their necks out for some good stuff, and sell cheap discs with quality music.
bmg is an evil megacorporation. jive records is the virus that infects the music industry today.
bmg does not need to start aquiring other labels.
and last i heard, they were in financial straights.

bmg buying emi is a bad thing.
please realize this.

i can see an onslaught of "god didn't intend for chickens to have three legs" bible-thumpers coming from their corners to protest this one.
i am on the list too. ;) yeah.
just as an office 'will' kind of thing, with hundreds-of-thousands of witnesses:
/.. (heh, ending a sentence with /. doesn't work, eh?)
/. ? heh.
