Wow, yeah, completely brilliant. Let's also implement bash on a pci card so my shell can be sooo much faster. Have you tried blackbox as a wm? Without having a system to check right now, I would hazard a guess that it uses less system resources than an instance of bash (at least the same ballpark). Sawfish (which you mentioned) is another good choice, just don't run GNOME. Or if you're really worried about it, run twm.

Actually you can record at 640x480 with the hauppage cards, they only advertise 320x240 for some reason. I use virtuadub in windows to do it. Recording at 640x480, applying some filters, then mpeg4'ing it can result in some really high quality caps (if you have a clean source).

I just wish I had the wintv-pvr so I didn't have to have my computer tied up compressing to mpeg.

Also MS raided Borland's compiler group, "stealing" away many of their employees. Borland sued MS, I don't remember how it turned out, but that combined with the Borland custom Windows libs that never completely caught on (OWL or something?) almost killed Borland.

A minor point, but I would draw a wide line between the "free" licenses (GPL, BSD, etc ) and "corporate" EULAs. Corporate EULAs restrict your rights further than you would normally be restricted by copyright law.

Actually a bunch of power plants are inactive, due to environmental regulations. I heard from one source that only 1/3 of the power plants in CA were up and running. Another problem is crappy infrastructure linking to other states. If there were better power lines to other states it would be easier to buy and sell large amounts of power. Unfortunately the CA utils continue to sell power when there is a slight surplus, only to repurchase power later in the day at a higher rate.

Altogether the situation is a complete SNAFU, but I have always had power (too bad no days off work!)

Okay, so you're an egg, good for you. You can speak chinese better than your ABC buds, this brings you closer to a billion people how? My point is, the "importance" of a language has everything to do with context, and not absolute numbers. If I was doing business in Europe I bet I could do pretty damn well with English and French. But if I was looking into manufacturing in Europe, then maybe I should pick up some German. In none of these cases would Chinese help. If I was doing business in Japan, then Mandarin wouldn't help much, would it?

I bet your motivations are to pick up on Chinese girls - here's a tip: they don't like it when you try too hard.
