Yes yes, I know there are dimable CFL bulbs. But most people don't know there are some that don't work well with dimming lamps. Which is most modern lamps.
And while I know they exsist, they're not sold the stores I've checked locally.
I bought some CFL's for my apartment. Put them in the two pole lamps in my living room. Turn the first one on and the bulb blew out on me. My brother then without thinking turned the other lap on (a touch lamp) and that one blew out. Turns out they don't play nice with lamps that have dimmer settings, which is ALL of my lamps.
Also the touch lamp now only has two settings on and off. On is when the lamp is plugged in, off is when you unplug the lamp. Was brand new too.
The Dell used is the comparison is clearly older and slower.
The clock speed in the Dell only slightly slower so that's a very minor issue. However there is a more considerable difference in the chips used. The Core 2 Duo's are a good deal faster than the Core Duo's in my experience.
In addition to the Dell only having 1GB of RAM I find it likely that it's also slower RAM.
Another thing there is no mention of the hard drives. The MacBook Air obviously is going to have a Flash based hard drive while the Dell might have a 5400 RPM platter drive.
People are arguing hardware prices because Apple charges more for the same hardware. Also they have no mid-range systems which is where the best prices vs performance is to be had.
I think it would benefit Apple a lot to release a tower based system that didn't require a Xeon processor.
I've installed Windows 7 serveral times on a few different machines and I've not had any issues. No need to download drivers or anything. Windows Update often finds newer versions of drivers, but the drivers on the install disc have worked without issue for me.
I was going to create an account for the sake of having the highest number possible, but then I remembered that I made an account about a year ago. Defeated at my own attempt at wittiness.
One core in a Cell processor is not the same as one core in say a Core Duo. They are more like mini-cores. There are more of them but they're also a lot less functional. So technically speaking yes there are 64 cores (only 48 you actually get to use in this case though) but if you had a multi-proc setup using the same number of Intel or AMD cores you would get A LOT more processing power.
I'm sure there's someone out there that cares, but personally I find mouse-overs annoying. Most annoying is when I'm reading a somewhat in depth article on tomshardware and I get a mouse over pop-up giving the definition for some pretty basic things.
The whole idea of the "religion" is rediculous. Why we waste our time with them is because they have a lot of money and power. They brainwash people and destroy their lives. When ever anyone tries to oppose them or get word out about what's going on, they take terroristic actions to stop it. They need to be stopped.
