I think it would be a good idea to brainstorm utilizing the power of Slashdot readers. One of those: "What would you do?" How can we support a civilian network with no ISP backbone. WDS? Mesh networks? Analog modems? Rsyncing important websites the wikileaks way? Using BBS or text oriented technologies to preserve civilian bandwidth? GSM cellphones ala Burning man? Seriously... With no Internet we are completely segregated and powerless. At least the US, we are not even withing walking distances from downtowns. Can Slashdot help organizing this info? It would be awesome testing some of these technologies!

I honestly believe that 1.5 users (and some 1.6) are not heavy users that will be purchasing a lot of apps. the iphone set a trend of buying a replacement phone at least every 18 months. how many 1.5 users are just about to buy a new phone? Also, what is the volume of market usage (sells) on this bracket (1.5 users) I agree that fragmentation is not effective, but is far from being an issue or something unacceptable. I think that newer phones deserve better attention. If I bought a new phone 2.2 or 2.1 I did it because app implementation is going to be faster and better. I am all about not setting breaks on development because everything needs to be compatible/cool with 1.5. 1.5 devices have a hardware disadvantage. my two cents!

The anti-porn rhetoric from the head of a politically liberal, gay-friendly company is pretty weird, to say the least.

What has "gay-friendly" got to do with it?

I think that by "gay-friendly" anyone could understand "Progressive thinking". IT IS wierd to be progressive and be scared at porn.

I understand what you are coming from, the thing is that i have seen how bad of a phone is the Motorola RAZR for example.. and people loves it... Why, bacause of that design... More leds you put to stuff more people will like it... It doesn't mean that i like that fact.. but i really think that the design of a product.. it doesn't matter how geeky the gadget is.. has to do with some more than geeakiness... its also a matter of marketing... If manufacturers want to spend more money on an extra led... LET THEM!... i don't understand how much can it bother you to have 10 extra leds in your desktop!... I am also a geek!

Not talking about Apples=Macs... The Article is just not fair... Are you talking about market share... (we know the dirty reasons ms has the market share... giving the OS for free through manufacturer partnerships and stuff). when you have a way to compare the TRUE adoption (adopt because you want or you actually care) come and write something!

Is slashdot really concerned about this? Is it just me or slashdot news are becoming less relevant? Stuff that really matters... I have too many leds!
