  1. Subversive Groups Must Now Register In South Caro on Subversive Groups Must Now Register In South Carolina · · Score: 1

In South Carolina the Democratic Party would be considered as a subversive organization since they want to control the federal and state governments. In doing so the Democrats would have to complain about the entrenched Republican control of same. This law is clearly unconstitutional. Of course it'll take an activist court system to say so.

  2. Installed IE 8 and it broke side bar gadgets on Microsoft Launches New "Get the Facts" Campaign · · Score: 1

During the last 2nd Tuesday updates for Vista, IE8 was checked in the list of updates, so I thought, what the heck, might as well include the update. Well, I noticed that the side bar gadgets stopped working. The clock was stopped at the wrong time, the local temperature was wrong and the CPU use/memory use gadget was way off and frozen. I looked around the net and found many forums pointing out the same problem, so I uninstalled IE8 and the gadgets work. This leads me to wonder what else IE8 breaks in Vista.

  3. Re: Printers to Iran on HP Accused of Illegal Exportation To Iran · · Score: 1

I remember reading that before the 1st Iraq war printers sold to Iraq had some kind of radio targeting devices installed that allowed smart bombs to find their aiming points. I don't know if that was true, but this could be a CIA or US military ploy to find good targets.

  4. STOP DST on Alternatives to Daylight Saving Time? · · Score: 1

I remember when I lived in Iowa as a graduate student in the '60s and the state was about to start DST for the first time. The Des Moines Register published letters from folks who complained about the switch. Many folks commented that the "extra hour of daylight" would reek all kinds of havoc: it would be bad for lawns, the corn and soy bean crops because it would damage them by burning them. If this is true, we ought to get rid of that extra hour of sunlight in the summer. STOP DST!

  5. Job Cuts For Dell, Motorola, and Circuit City on Job Cuts For Dell, Motorola, and Circuit City · · Score: 1

In the end, it's not clear that Dell will be down 8,000 employees or Motorola will be down 3,000 + employees.

A while back I read about HP laying off thousands from their world-wide 150,000 employees. They still have 150,000 employees. The article talked about "churn" of employees. Either the employees that were let go were in areas that were unimportant to the company and replaced with workers with skills more valuable to the company or high paid employees were replaced with lower paid folks doing the same jobs, some of them perhaps outside the USA. The thing to do is look at these company's number of employees in a year.
