  1. Well at this rate on UK Copyright Group Tells Cinemas to Ban Laptops · · Score: 3, Insightful
The only people in the cinema WILL BE the pirates.
The rest of us will forego the spanish inquisition, the extortionate prices and the hassle in general of getting parked and bothering to go to the cinema, we will instead sit at home watching our bootlegged copy, pausing it to go to the loo and still have the poeple walking infront of the screen, laughing and coughing.

Actually I feel like doing piracy vs cinema:

    Cinema:
    Pros
    • That surround sound and huge picture
    • The popcorn
    • The fact we are out in the real world with real strangers near us

      Cons:
    • No pausing for toilet / food
    • People talking
    • People walking in front of the screen
    • The High prices
    • being treated like a criminal
    • getting ID checked (if they happen to think you look under 21)
    • Getting parked on a busy night
    • getting a child minder

      Piracy:
      Pros:
    • cheaper than a cinema ticket
    • You dont have to leave the house
    • no id required
    • you can pause it to go to the loo.
    • No child minder required.
    • feels like the cinema, laughing and walking infront of the screen included.

      Cons:
    • bad quality (assuming you have a cam and not a screener).
    • You ARE a criminal

  5. Re:I prefer Zones or areas on Should Computer Games Adapt To the Way You Play? · · Score: 2, Insightful

I am fully aware of the side missions etc. I was just pointing out the flaws.

My point about Oblivion wasn't that it was hard it was that imo the enemy leveling with your char is stupid and not much fun. Bandits kitted out with adamantium gear, come on if they have that sort of gear why do they need to be bandits. Imo Bandits should have shit gear and have patchy equipment, conversly Noble's body guards should have good solid gear, while the top end gear is reserved for champions and nobles that can afford it.

With regards to FO3, I was pointing out that as a (for the sake of argument) lvl 5 char you could go and complete the game as well as kill pretty much everything including supermutants. Compare this to FO1/2 if you were lvl 5 and came across a supermutant you had to run or you would die. Imo this made more sense and was more fun

  6. Re:reward better players on Should Computer Games Adapt To the Way You Play? · · Score: 1

Being "better" at a game can be pretty subjective. Bringing various definitions into alignment would mean that the person who is enjoying the game the most is also getting the highest in-game score or other measure of accomplishment.

Can't say I completly agree to the second sentence, as for me there was a game for the amiga 500, Dogs of War. I think i only ever managed to complete 1 mission as the game was too difficult for me, however I never stopped enjoying the game or trying.

  7. Re:Oblivion "Increasing skill" feh. on Should Computer Games Adapt To the Way You Play? · · Score: 1

If it's going to kill you, it usually kills you on the first shot. Which never happens in real life.

... Did you think about this before typing.. Most head or heart shots with a gun do kill people in real life in one hit. If you want to test that on yourself and get back to me feel free to do so..

1 hit kill in games can be frustrating but sometimes it actually suits the game and just means you have to be careful. (e.g. 1st sniper mission of commandoes III; Battlefield 2, play as a sniper and score a headshot. )

You are correct about Oblivion and as I said earlier (or perhaps later depending where it is relative to this post) it was just annoying.

  8. I prefer Zones or areas on Should Computer Games Adapt To the Way You Play? · · Score: 5, Insightful

Basically WoW has it right. Oblivion was annoying as as soon as i level those "bandits" suddenly had very very good gear. I don't like that it's no fun, sometimes it is nice to walk to an area you have been before with your gear and butcher the low level stuff for fun.
Bestheda also fucked up Fallout 3 with this, you can pretty much complete the game in under 3hours (iirc) with hardly any leveling as the monsters are pretty much all scaled to the player.

I do like rubber-banding as long as it is managed (eg a lvl 4 monster, depending on my skill, can have the stats of say a lvl 5 monster but never any higher) this allows for a small degree of rubber-banding so good players will have a harder time but can still return to low level places.

Ok now for my rationale, If we excuse him then perhaps we should apologise to the Spanish for sinking their armada or to all the countries that we conquered when Britain ruled the majority of the know world. Should we also apologise to the descendants of those who were forced into marriage aged 13 in the 1800s when it was legal and accepted to be married to and having sex with 13 year olds?

Yes society has moved on and realised that those laws were perhaps not in the best taste but still those that broke those laws should not be excused. No matter how "wrong" the laws were. Otherwise as I mention above where do we stop excusing people and how far back do we go?

Perhaps 5year copyright should only apply to software code.

Just thinking that say for example an open source project has 3 main coders and each maintains copyright over their code (as is proper). Now say one of those coders has written 2/3s of the code and to redo that code would take the other 2 at best a year to rewrite. Now lets say that coder for some reason becomes unreachable (dies, moves to Mars, etc..). The other 2 cannot relicence the code base to say GPL v4 until his copyright is over or he gives permission. In the UK currently they would have to wait 50years. Suddenly for this example 5years sounds a lot fairer.
