  1. uhm, Okami? on How Important is Gears of War for Microsoft? · · Score: 2, Insightful

If the PS3 is even compatible with the PS2 version of Okami, GoW (which I've pre ordered for the 360, mind you) may well be screwed.

If the PS3 has its own Okami or Okami-lookalike, or TES 4 with its new expansion pack, etc., the 360 is even more screwed.

FYI, Okami is this tres uber cool looking game where your goal is to majorly restore things rather than destroy stuff. It's not MANLY like GoW but it's highly rated, and I even dusted off my old PS2 to play it. There are *NO*, and I repeat *NO* 360 games that look as pretty as the lowly PS2's Okami, and only Oblivion is more *fun*. (IMHO)

If games like this come out for the PS3, the Xbox 360 has only one choice: adapt, come up with really good games, or die. Pinning all their hopes on GoW isn't even workable for the short run.

China has a 1 child policy. They enforce FORCED abortions on women pregnant with their 2nd baby. Are you still following me on this? That means China is DENYING its citizens reproductive rights.

So... by supporting trade with China, you are also supporting an ANTI CHOICE regime. But you're anti-choice, which is why you are going to argue with me...

  7. Much as I adore the Unreal Engine on Epic's Rein and the Unreal Engine's Long Arms · · Score: 2, Interesting

I have a complaint about all game engines.

I've noticed that when the same game engine is used over and over again, the characters and environments tend to look quite similar. They even move similarly. Take Unreal2/UT2004 vs Gears of War - you can tell right away who the "fathers" of those characters are (lol). (It's all in their huge chins!) After a while playing tons of games under the same engine, takes away from the fun factor, unless there is a MAJOR deviation in the UI and such. (Say, if Unreal 3 was uber-modded to create TES 4 Oblivion or GTA: Liberty City, etc.) Another good example is whatever engine was behind Baldur's Gate. I've seen its likeness in console games like X-Men Legends 1/2, Fantastic 4, Champions of Norrath, etc. The games are fun as all get out, but I can recognize the interface. Also, see Doom 3 and its children Quake 4 and Prey: you can tell right away who their game engine daddy is.

However, I understand how much it costs to make a new game engine; how about this... developers, can you please do more to make your modification of (game engine du jour) look and feel dramatically different?

Given China's human rights problems, if we let China grow, we're screwed. MAJORLY. The whole world will follow their example, they will NOT follow our example. They don't have to.

    a) block trade with China.

    b) increase relations and trade with Europe, and show long term LEADERSHIP regarding blocking off China... explain why we're doing it, and stick to our principles consistently

    c) bite the bullet and go back to manufacturing in the West, for all it costs us

    d) develop more mature space travel before China, and do not under any circumstances allow them to spread their horrible Government and misogynist gynocidal culture beyond their airspace.

a, b and c are going to be almost impossible because America is deeply entrenched in a 4 year election cycle that imposes short sightedness on an epic scale.
