IBM is working on a PHP compiler to create bytecode for the JVM. Using P8 as it is called, you can run your compiled PHP programs on a java application server such as Tomcat or JBoss.
What irritates me is when one side tries to force or ridicule people into believing. This turns people into jackasses who won't get out of the way, since no one trusts the guy with the stick. Try the carrot instead.
Framing the situation correctly and showing interested parties the data, not just your massaged results, builds trust. I don't care how well meaning you are or if 99.999% of the insiders know that we are doomed if we don't act. If you hide parts of the truth, even if it is just to help people see through the clutter of details, you will have lost their trust once discovered. It does not matter if you are right or wrong, good or evil. It is about trust.
Any scientist stating that he is willing to destroy his own data, rather than give access to others, is someone who deserves no trust at all.
The question if the original creator really benefits, will depend on how much of the product is an idea and how much of it is actual implementation. Sometimes it can take years to solve a technical problem, the idea, but once the solution exists it can be understood and implemented in a much shorter time. When people are given the solution to a problem, they rarely understand how difficult it was to solve. Given the same problem and a proof stating that there is _a_ solution, most people would not know even where to begin.
Now that is a somewhat unexpected reaction. Is it the mere use of the word "LEGOs" that causes this over-reaction in you or is it triggered by something more tangible, like for example the sensation of multiple sharp LEGOs under your foot?
Agree, but a better move would be to simply contact the developers of the GPL:ed software and ask for a commercial license instead. The GPL lets you try the software, lets you create other software around it, but if you would like to distribute your application as closed source, you may have to pay for some other form of license.
I find it hard to understand why someone would start crying for not being allowed just take take several years worth of development effort, thinly repackage it and then claim that no one else is allowed to touch "their" software without paying for it.
Open source your software or pay the original developers for a commercial license.
This was exactly what preceeded the trial of TPB. It is illegal for our government to give orders on specific cases and are only to work through laws (that apply everyone) and organizational change (for efficiency). What the responsible minister did after threats from the US. was not to order the prosecutor to slam down on TPB, which he could not, but he made sure to remove all other cases from the procecutors desk to help him focus. Before the minister did this, the prosecutor had stated that he was unsure if TPB had actually violated any laws.
This is a strange way to make friends internationally. The US has for many years had a lot of strong supporters in the Swedish population. WIth that in mind, threatening to basically "fucking destroy us" did not come across as good PR. I realize that Sweden is a small country and antagonizing its population will hardly change your own situation right now. However, we have a saying which roughly translates to "Many little streams creates a river".
Perhaps it could be interesting to know that information like this is public by default in Sweden. Any information not deemed to be harmful to national security, is public and can be requested by anyone, from any public organization including the government and the parliament, all the way down to municipal level. They are bound by law to respond with the requested information and any correspondence with public organizations must be put in public notes and published so that people can follow specific cases through the decision process. We can find out who met with who, when and what was discussed or decided.
"Our mission is very simple. We are working towards launching a human being into space."
So am i.
I'd say that Sten Tolgfors is the human being to be launched first. He argued that having the state listen in on the entire populations electronic communications, was vital to the safety of Swedens military personel in Afghanistan. He did however not think that we should send APC's to protect our soldiers against IED's.
My argument is that having the current minister of defense in space is vital to the safety of our troops.
Any other suggestions? Please motivate why your candidate should be selected.
Remember that you will be making the world a better place to live in, for all the rent-a-cavity-searchers currently unemployed. Think of their children!
You maay have the largest plan for sweeden.. but do you roam when you go to the UK? even if not.. all of Western Europe is ~1/3 the size of the US and has 1/3 MORE people
United States | 86.5 people/mi^2
At 450,000 km2 (173,746 sq mi), Sweden is the third largest country in the European Union in terms of area, and it has a total population of over 9.2 million. Sweden has a low population density of 53 per square mile.

Indeed, but I think more noteworthy than this copyright claim ...
What a fool he was to believe that his mere name would be protected under copyright law. Obviously he should have filed for a patent instead.
USPTO forever!
Yes, I believe that your statements are true, but what is your point?
I agree with your post, but I would like to add:

Modders gone wild.
Cynical and possibly venomous, but not a troll.

Why does he want to do this? Did Google frighten him when he was a baby?
His wife left him for their latest service: Google Male.

There are 10 kinds of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.
There are 10 kind people in the world. Neither of them understand binary.
You cannot get around that with technical reasonings like "but we dont host the files, we just provide .torrent files".
You can not get around that with technical reasonings like "but I did not stab anyone, I just sold him the knife".
More correct analogy would be "but I did not stab anyone, I just gave the movement to the knife. It wasn't me who stabbed him, it was the knife!"
A more correct analogy would be "stop eating blueberries whilst fishing trout".

Good for your karma that this is a discussion about physics and not theology.
Good for your Dharma that this is a discussion about physics and not biology.
Nasa is sending one of these reactors to "the red planet".
Get your ass to Mars?
Have you ever seen the T shirt "I read your email"?
No, but I'm willing to bet that the T-shirt "I read your encrypted email" is even more unusual.
