It's true, but it is also true another way around: 98% of packages are Free Software, not just Open Source.
This shows 64% of packages are under GPL, if you add to this other free licenses you will get more.

That means that they are not buying the company, just IP and assets. That means that Palm will not be accepting liabilities, like support contracts, employment agreements, etc.
In scenarios like this, victim company is quickly closed and some employees are fired and some are given options to join new company.
This is not such a good deal as ouright purchase. I hope I am wrong.

If he would invent something really new I would not argue. What he offers is another facelift to C++ which was extention of C. He offers it in a way very similar to Java.

This is not a reason you need more security. Let me give you an
example: I hang on IRC to chat with friends. I usually sit there in
passive mode and if somebody wants to talk to me, they could. Kind of
instant messaging, but using more popular and accessible
media. Sometimes my colleagues from across the ocean stop by and want
to discuss some business related issues. Main problem is our
conversation (if it is not DCC, which in most case does not work
because of firewalls) could be observed by any IRC server
operator. There are dozen servers on network, some administrated by more
than one person. You could not assure integrity of all these people.
Proposed system will solve this problem, since all communication will
be encrypted using public keys of participants and channel keys. So
several people can chat on channel in confidence that nobody is
snooping their discussion.

IRC does not allow anonymous server connections!
You need to have C/N lines in server cfg to be allowed
to connect.
But allows anonymous cliens. Not completely anonymous -
most IRC servers try to use IDENT protocol
to check client identity, but this could be
easily faked.
In fact, that suite could have some basis.

I am using one of (very few) US GSM providers (Cyngular). While visiting France, I can send and receive SMS messages to my wifes phone in US.
The problem with Cingular is their support. It sucks! They have only 800 number, which could not
be called directly from outside US. They have support email address, but I never received responce to messages sent there. Finally I managed
to call their 800 number via calling card, just to hear message that I am calling from number
outside of their service zone, and they could not help me. Of course, recommeneded way to call customer support (*666 from cell phone) does not work in europe.
Taking in account that their roaming charges
outside US are $2.50/minute I just bought in France pre-paid GSM card and using while I am here.
Also, to be able to use their service outside US you need to call them and ask to activate "international roaming".
Do not forget that most of US GSM phones are using
different frequency than one in use in Europe and will not work there. You need dual or tripple band phone.

It is not very nice thing to say, but the guy stuck
in the time few years ago:
1. Java is already invented.
2. Nobody cares about 16 bit code anymore.
If you like Java, use it. If you dislike java,
stick to good old C++. No need to invent a new language.
