The hundred non-slashdotters generally rely on their geek friends to give computer advice, such as "should I upgrade".

It would be a big mistake to underetstimate how damaging this will be to Kingston's SSD department; Id place money on them halting the practice within the next few months.

They have been good to me in the past and its disappointing to hear that they're doing this-- it sounds like they are admitting as much. I remember ~3-4 years ago I managed to snap the SATA connector on a kingston SSD and they replaced it no questions asked.

Hopefully these companies figure out exactly how heavily theyre trading on their reputation just to save a few dollars. I cant think of how this could possibly end up being worth it for them.

Thats not really how it works. The wear is leveled across cells, so increasing the number of drives in a RAID0 really does increase the amount of data till a predictable failure (ie, the "write limit").

Its all irrelevant, because theres no SSD out there that could handle that write rate, and theres no way hes generating that much data 24/7.

Fun fact: Deer park water coolers with a "hot" spigot put out ~175-180 degree water-- which happens to be the optimal Aeropress temperature.

And honestly if you're using an aeropress with proper temp water, whole beans etc are all not that important-- your coffee is already better than 80% of the stuff commonly drunk (drip, keurig). I have done fresh ground Jamaican Blue Mountain (from Trader Joes), and compared to pre-ground Kirkland columbian (3lb tub) and while JBM is definitely "better" its not really that big a difference.

An aeropress doesnt rely on gravity, it relies on manually created air pressure. Attach a funnel / baggie to the service end of the aeropress, brew as normal, drink from your baggie.

You can get a decent cup of coffee from an Aeropress, and the upside is it takes up neither a lot of space nor a lot of mass. I think all told the whole thing is ~200g; it also makes some pretty good coffee.

The one poll I could find from 2006 that broke the results down by party was from a site that was obviously biased (democrats.org or something)-- and even that poll showed republicans being far more against warrantless wiretapping than for it.

How about people stop speculating on how they think republicans think when it flies in the face of polls? Find some facts to back your sentiment up, or keep it to yourself.
