    I thought we were talking about the media demonizing a ostensibly innocent protocol, not where the law stands.

    Torrenting has legitimate use, but Demonoid was truly for pirating.

    This is great news because for the last few years the media has done their best to demonize torrents and related activity as nothing more than a pirates' leisure time activity

    Lets be real here. If I were to look up usage of torrents by volume and by category (legal video, legal software, illegal video, illegal software), what do you suppose the spread would be? Would you be willing to wager that legal activity was even more than 10%? Because I wouldnt.

    Visa doesnt charge consumers a dime to use their cards, so Im not clear how those costs are being spread.

    Conversely, if you get mugged, its a lot better to have credit than cash.

    If you are getting screwed with credit cards, there is a strong possiblity that youre making poor choices (like not paying your bill in full each month).

    Time is, AFAIK, the presence / state of change. How can time be created by the thing to which time will apply? If time doesnt exist, then "the beginning" wont randomly explode.

    By definition "nothing" cannot explode. If its doing anything, then it isnt "nothing".

    He wants to get a non-trivial number of Linux PC game boxes out there so that more people are targeting PCs, not Windows.

    Yes they should, i dont want my registrar deciding whether he likes the content Im hosting on my domain. If theres an issue with the content, talk to the host, the ISP, or a judge.

    Im sort of at a loss for why theres so much media hate for Tesla. Musk is a VERY successful businessman (which appeals to people who tend to be on the right), but his business is also a huge "cause" for people who tend to be on the left; he makes a car thats environmentally friendly, but its also sporty.

    Im really not clear what the angle is that makes Tesla such a problem.

    Whats the incidence rate of this sort of thing again?

    Can you point me to a specific hardware or software product from your "golden age" which had a 0% defect rate?

    Protecting the good guys from abuse often protects the bad guys to some degree.

    Its all about what kind of internet you want to deal with: One where someone can trivially take your content down, or one where you know that theres bad stuff out there.

    They may lose a bit of profit but in the long run the network will be better off.

    People get angry over the pursuit of profit / capitalism in general, but heres the issue. If we could get people to do what youre saying (put society before self) we could just all be communist and live in a utopia.

    To make a system that fundamentally depends on altruism is to make a system that is broken.

    Doesnt diesel have horrendous problems in cold weather? I thought that was one of the primary disadvantages.

    Theres also the whole issue of lubrication, which is why you used to need to warm up

    Im a guy who worked as a waiter while in college and paid off my first civic doing that, and just got a new civic that pulls 40-45mpg. Under bad conditions it hits 35. Theyre not expensive, and they get great mileage unless you drive it like a madman.

    Im pretty sure just about any car these days gets 35-40mpg, actually.
