For newbies or people who want to get something done, like you know, build software. I love hacking on stuff (slack is actually my favorite dist), but when I'm wanting to bang out a new release or read slashdot it just needs to work without a bunch of dinking around. I have been using Mint 11 with Gnome classic (selectable on the login screen) and my only complaint is that bar-code scanners do not work and the printers don't just appear when attached (Star TSP100 futurePRINT receipt printer). Other than those issues (and trouble getting Wine to run World of Tanks) I have no complaints, it is a joy to use. I have been running XP under VirtualBox and it runs super fast.
Albigensian Crusades, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Crusades. The inquisition, The Spanish Inquisition.....All horrid atrocities that will make you question if the people who really did those things were human beings.
Microsoft is going full CLI for servers soon. This a great opportunity to learn Linux instead of relearning Microsoft "Windows?" It makes no sense to relearn all this stuff--powershell, commands--when the system is proprietary and you can spend your time learning something that will benefit you (Linux/Unix environment) no matter what you run. Every time I learn to deal with another Microsoft server product I miss any feeling of accomplishment because all it qualifies me for is babysitting someones crappy Microsoft environment, not terribly rewarding work. If I learn how to configure a Linux server I know I have something then and feel proud to master a system that is not meant to control and cajole me. I've played with Microsoft Windows for twenty years and I'm done. People keep using the excuse "because it just works" to explain their preference for Windows. This excuse is no longer working; I switched to Mint for my new build over Windows 7 and haven't looked back (I'm a software developer). The only reason they want to hang onto Windows is baecause they don't know much and they have no desire to improve. It is sickening.
China's growth is going to halt abruptly. It will not grow forever. They have too many overwhelming problems and it is evident that humans have an extremely hard time managing large entities (we have fallen into a pattern of management for large businesses because it is so difficult and no one wants to run the risk of new methods). China switched to hybrid capitalism because they were out of options and had no idea how to manage a large entity successfully so they turned to the proven workhorse of society management, capitalism. It works, but it too is flawed and they will show us its potential.
I deal with this on a constant basis with my wife. She will be typing a term paper or lab report and I can hear her freaking out in the next room because "it's doing it again." She can never figure out the formatting for word when it goes all squirlley--normally after a cut-n-paste from another formatted source. The reality is, people stay away from formatting to avoid this plague--only the basics are employed. If you have to use a certain format like MLA/APA, and if you do not know Word *very* well, you will be freaking out in short order. I keep telling my wife to use a text editor and format it at the end but she will not listen. Even I step lightly in Word and I have been using and supporting it since the the Word Perfect days--I supported WP too. WordPerfect 5.1 was much more professional than Word.
Yes, much like those girls who were table dancing nympho coke whores who now attend church and act shocked to learn of people who do the things they used to do.
Running Windows 7 on new updated hardware and I have had numerous crashes. Of course these were mostly at the worste times. Usually happens when copying very large files with the GUI, not a good idea.
No, you just require proof of age and lock people out of the server at a specified time. This is needed in every country. Kids do not have a right to game all night, and I would personally, as an older adult, appreciate an adult time for game servers. World of Warcraft has needed this for years.
Yes, this socialization you speak of is masking clinical depression in some cases. A lot of people cannot stand to be alone. They will also associate with people they do not like and that do not really care about them just to be in the mix and avoid solitary thought. It is definitely a problem. When real life sets in one day these people are going to wreck their lives because of it, I've watched this happen. It is difficult to distinguish this behavior from standard teenage socialization unless you are aware of this problem, have witnessed it before, and are able to closely observe the person.
Freakin A!! GAWD I wish we had this rule in America! Then the adults could have some good gaming and the 12 year olds would get some much needed regulation. Good one Korea!
What is this "buying ingredients in bulk" tripe? She already does that. You don't get significant extra discounts for buying a whole lot more ingredients. It is food that is traded on a global market like anything else of real value, it only gets so cheap. Restaurant chains can work deals where they get kick-backs at the end of year if they purchase a certain amount during the year, but there isn't a novel formula where you can just get a better deal because you buy a lot. Food is gold! Do you expect a better deal if you buy many many ounces of gold?
Yeah, it is the coupon crowd. They get off on going to the grocery store and getting paid for wheeling out a cart full of groceries. A serious bunch, they maintain photo albums full of coupons and spend anywhere from 6 to 10 hours per weeks gathering coupons.
Yeah, I would have jammed the door with my foot. That is one of the things you have to do in business, stop losses. I look for her to go out of business from this.
I have shitty expensive internet, I wonder if I could build a transceiver system to share internet with someone in town? You guys got me sparked on this HAM thing now.
This is probably the reason for the original requirement of 5WPM to assure people would be capable of communicating effectively during a disaster or war effort.

If you want to install Wireshark (Airshark?) you must have root access. For me that is the first app I want on any android device. I'm not happy unless I have a full battery of tools with which to sniff the network. Root access required.

Yeah, because a Windows server is sooooo easy to setup. Have you used a modern Windows server?

Hello, text files!
Running Windows 7 on new updated hardware and I have had numerous crashes. Of course these were mostly at the worste times. Usually happens when copying very large files with the GUI, not a good idea.
Wine?
DOS 3.3 was good and version 5 thru 6 was without problem. Before that, geesh.

I just buy off-brand stuff and forgo the waste of time.

Well, it worked. Now what?
Anyone tired of these tired Ph. D. posts yet? Unbelievably boring and lame. I guess several of the editors are "working on their Ph D's."

Nope, just stared at the pic, and saved it.
