This. The reason wages are so low is that people do not know enough to demand more. They are simple folk.

  4. People do need to try harder...and push themselves. Our Doctor Spock mentality society recoils at this pronouncement but it is the truth.

  5. We have known for a long time now how much it increases efficiency to take orders for food online. Consumers like it because they get to control the accuracy of the order and the experience. Normally the people standing at a register are rude and unengaged and it makes people feel like walking out. There is no need for people on a register. Despite all the potential gotchas of implementing, it will be a total win. However, people who have been left behind by technical progress often end up on the register and the least capable people in the restaurant are placed on register. Sadly, these people are to be left behind again.

Xamarin Forms apps can run on Windows Desktop and UWP. UWP is actually Windows Desktop now. You can run android apps in Linux. The advancements in open-source cross-platform development have been amazing. Building practical applications that run on every device is a reality. BTW, this just hit a peak in mid-to-late 2017. I have a complex Xamarin Forms app written in C#, using Entity Framework Core targeting .NET Standard 2.0 (basically core/mono) that deploys with Windows and Android without custom code for either platform. I haven't tested iOS yet but others have. I need to buy a laptop and Apple device to really hunker down on iOS. Xamarin Forms also supports macOS.

"while all of the most used and useful sites use a lot of Javascript"

That is a problem and most of the javascript is just tracking malware. Maps are useful, tracking is a dubious injection and abuse vector where a lot of junk sneaks in that no one wants. Javascript is a weird hack that we have come to accept for a while so that we can write horrible applications in a browser. My personal favorite, the job descriptions wanting "full stack" developers who know all of the latest javascript libraries, where they go one to list five dead libraries....sorry, frameworks.

When you reach a certain level of pay you do not air your grievances--ever. You just grin and nod while looking for another job. New high paying jobs that aren't as bad or worse than the current one can be hard to find. "Yeah, everything is great man." While thinking: "Absolutely fuck this place." OR "I have plateaued here...and this shit is getting really lame." For issues like this there is absolutely nothing your boss can do and if you tell them about things that are bothering you that will never be fixed or resolved then you have just told them it is only a matter of time.

Speaks volumes. Google just doesn't want this stuff going on because it will make businesses shy away from using their services. They are just trying to maintain mind-share at the expense of truth. I used to be a Google advocate but have since realized they are complete shit and on the way out as a result of their behavior. They have a serious perception problem. People perceive them as geeky, and more recently, as authoritarian and oppressive. They are the default play friend of government agencies looking to identify people. They lay down and cooperate with every request. They have been completely co-opted as though someone from high up in the government(s) have delivered stark warnings and they have bowed their head in surrender.
