We are setting up and building VoIP servers and infrastructures no matter what here in Paraguay, and we are going to use FreeSWITCH and FOSS solutions.
I'm a Linux user and I don't think that's really needed, we have better GUI's nowadays such as KDE4, etc.
I think Microsoft is slowly losing market share and their monopoly due to their low quality products, and now people seems to be more aware of the importance of open standards, etc. and things like the European Union and the world are against their antitrust cases, their anticompetitive tactics doesn't work anymore, and they know they can't beat Open Source and Linux either.
It might look and sound funny but they already have started their Open Source thing: http://www.microsoft.com/opensource/ - and I see that in order for them to stay relevant in the future they will have to learn to interop with Linux in a better way, open specifications, play nice, etc. As Linux will gain more market share in the future.
I been using Asterisk 1.4.x and I found it quite buggy (deadlocks, dtmf issues, audio corruption issues, problems with codecs transcoding, etc).
Then I was forced to look at alternatives and I found FreeSWITCH, which was built to be a better alternative.
Me and other people I know have FreeSWITCH running in production systems, it works really well, some carrier services such as Teliax are also migrating to it, it's starting to take off the market.
I recommend everyone that is interested in VoIP and IP Telephony to look into it, you will love it.
That's egoistic, Linux will always be technical and the best OS for us. But I think we shouldn't limit our favorite OS to only that, we should make it accessible to others as well. Linux wont be less because of that, it will be more.
I recommend FreeSWITCH instead, much better than Asterisk.

You shouldn't use Asterisk, you should use FreeSWITCH if you want stability and performance.
I will really like to see ZFS re-licensed and integrated into Linux.
I think that will be the best move for Oracle, since all their infrastructure is already on Linux.
It makes more sense to do that rather than spend lots of money on Btrfs.
Although Btrfs is cool too.

Congrats!
What a ordinary way of thinking you have.
I agree wholeheartedly, can't be more proud of being a GNU follower :)
I prefer the GNU way too.
You call it "$RANDOM_COLLECTION_OF_CODE" to defend your little OS and NIH (Not Invented Here) syndrome that *BSD suffers from, don't you?
You mean, FreeBSD and other BSD's suffer from the NIH (Not Invented Here) syndrome?
They just released 1.0.2 with great improvements.

So go and spread the word.
Linux is the heart, it's what makes the GNU userland and everything else work.
What a retarded idea.
Their SVN trunk shows this:
Last update: 99 minutes
One word: SDL.

I wholeheartedly agree with you.
I fully agree.
ROFL. I would love to see this implemented too, it means the death of MS.
They are quite good for me and for the rest of the smart people.
Keep the FUD to a minimum please.
Yep, I hope they will do this for the same reason =D

I agree, I add all that and the universe and multiverses analogy and it will be the best AD ever =D
What's the problem with Africa?
Stop racism please.
