    Patents and Copyright are Government granted temporary monopoly's over that which has been patented or is under copyright.
    Was originally granted to spur more creation of these things to enrich the public domain.
    Problem is the temporary part has been massively subverted. Now almost nothing ever makes it into the public domain.

    Not only the expertise, but also the time required to get up and running, but also the time.
    Once you decide to set up your own chip fabrication plant it will be a few years (maybe a few more) before you start producing the chips.
    By that time the entire market can change. Setting up your own fab is not a solution to a problem you see coming in 2013 or even probably 2015.

    To be fair once he cited "Executive Privilege" over the information pertaining to "Fast and Furious" he proved one of two things.
    Either ...
    A: He was deeply involved and there were documents involving "Fast and Furious" and the White House.

    or

    B: The White House had nothing to do with "Fast and Furious" and he lied to Congress to protect Holder.

    So either way he is just another scumbag politician that should have very bad things happen to him.

    I think the better question is Why does the DOJ ever need to have secrecy in a civil matter after the case has been settled.

    Because you can not see the deal that was struck.
    The DOJ found that Microsoft was "Really Fucking Guilty" on this one. (Legal term)
    So they made Microsoft promise to give massive back doors to all their software then agreed to enter the mobile market so that could be back doored as well.
    Then to keep Googles mouth shut about it they gave Google complete ownership of Kansas City and Austin.

    You do not have to go through all that.
    Simply bring back the command line. Have people run Linux. Make the computers a little more difficult to use. Just a little.
    Make them think a tiny bit when hooking up to the internet. Daily.
    Even if you removed licensing for cars the percentage of people that would go on the road with NO ability to drive would be small.
    The number of people with no fucking clue how to read or not click a link that travel the information super highway is STAGGERING!
    Make the barrier to entry higher and all will benefit.

    Private Unions can be good or bad. If they get too bad they no longer have a job. (Ask the Bakers at Hostess)
    Public Unions ARE BAD! In private unions there is management vs union. Balance can be struck.
    In Public Employee Unions there can be no balance as the management (Politicians) are put into office with the union funds.
    Why people can not see this as a horrible situation that can never work out well I will never understand.
