Teachers unions are the sole reason that there you can not use a voucher to move to a competing private school that will teach better for less money. Teachers unions are the sole reason that it is 50 times easier and cheaper to just pay a teacher to sit at home than it is to fire one. Teachers unions are the sole reason that even though in California we are pouring more money into the system we get less out.
Teachers come in good and bad varieties. The unions help the bad ones to stay. Some teachers may care about educating students but this is not anywhere on the agenda of the unions. Teachers unions gets money from teachers, gives money to politicians. Politicians give teachers more. Teachers give unions more. Union gives money to politicians. There is no good reason for this blatant bullshit. Public sector unions are Fucking Evil.
48K a year for a teacher is $64,000 a year for the rest of us. And that 9 months they work still has more days off than most. Their pensions are at least in the state of California better than you will see from a pension from any one else making $64,000/year. Their health insurance coverage extends to the whole family at almost no cost and can get no better. Add to that that if you even try to measure their performance you will be vilified for hating children. The worst of them get to keep their jobs no matter what while the good ones are laid off if their are any cuts.
Teachers can be good people. Really good people. But they give their money to evil and do not care enough about the children to actually stand up to their own unions. Until they do, Fuck them.
If Jobs "Great Genius" was the fact that he " recognized the great work at PARC" then you are a genius as well for recognizing Jobs genius. Jobs was by no means a stupid man.
