Aterm is really slick... it has NeXTstep-style scrollbars, so it goes really well with WindowMaker and AfterStep. It's very configurable. Download it here.
Personally, I've gone back to plain old xterm. Tinted, transparent windows are great for showing off and taking screenshots, but unless the transparency allows you to see other windows (most new window managers, including GNOME, E, KDE, AS, and WM, only show the wallpaper in the "transparent" area), it's really sort of useless -- a waste of RAM and CPU cycles. I've been told that OS X has real transparent terminal emulators (with anti-aliased, shadowed text -- ooh!), but I haven't seen this in action. Also, believe it or not, Windows 2000 offers this feature (one of the Windows weenies at the office showed me last week), although it is never used in application programming because the transparent forms aren't supported in Win98, NT4, et cetera.
But if you want transparency , aterm will do it, and seems to be much mroe resource-friendly than eterm.
I'd be willing to head such a forum. It'd be like Slashback, but worth reading. Return of the Quickies, the Quickies Strike Back. If Taco doesn't email me about this, I'll be forced to create my own, competing site on GeoCities, and steal all of Slashdot's traffic. Mwahahaha.
if any new code has been checked in this week. I'm sure the comments are classic...

They don't realize it, apparently... only one "Funny" mod. Speaks volumes about the/. public's unfamiliarity with email encryption, I guess. Or maybe the mods are playing a joke themselves. <jon:lovitz>Yeah, that's the ticket...</jon:lovitz>
I'm not very familiar with American law, and I am from the US.:-) However, I believe that since the government is [supposedly] "of, for, and by the people," laws like the DMCA should definitely apply. But isn't the DMCA only applicable to copyrighted works? I honestly don't know -- I learned enough about the DMCA to know that I'm against it, and stopped reading because it's so damn depressing.
It's possible that the gov't could act in violation of the DMCA if their motivation is considered in the interest of national security. I'm taking a course on nat'l security law this fall, so maybe I'll find out.
Getting offtopic... I'm keeping a close eye on the Sklyarov case. If he's convicted, I think I may have to start publically protesting, for the first time in my life. The DMCA is a very frightening law, even scarier than the UK encryption key policy. I believe that as the "stamp act" was one of the British gov't policies which led to the American Revolution, the DMCA will be listed in future textbooks as one of the causes of the next revolution.
popular GNU/Linux distribution SuSE has announced that it will no longer support CPUs manufactured by Advanced Micro Devices, Incorporated. When asked what prompted such a decision, SuSE engineers replied, 'We suddenly had some insight into what an unpolished product AMD is pushing. And we mean really sudden.'
"SuSE also made news today when it was learned that Dirk Hohndel, SuSE ex-CTO, will head IBM's new Linux Technology division, located in Rotterdam."
Private Yassin: The download is almost complete, sir!
Sergeant al-Husseini: Excellent work! We've been trying to get that video of Britney Spears' nipple for some time now, but the American pigdogs haven't let us.
Private Yassin: Yes, sir! Without access to much of the Internet, out people are in desparate need of teen celebrity porn! Download is 90% complete, sir!
Seeant al-Husseini: Thank Allah for Napster al-Jabbar, the Arabian P2P network! Oh, when I see her erect teen nipple, I think I'll...
Private Yassin: Download complete, sir! Loading Windows Media Player, sir!
Sergeant al-Husseini: Hit the "play" button, soldier!
Private Yassin: Yes, sir! Hitting "play" button!
Both men stand, mouths gaping, in awed silence.
Private Yassin: Ahhh! Oh no! What is this, sir?
Sergeant al-Husseini: The Great Satan has infiiltrated our P2P network! We are doomed!

Yes, the US military's P2P research will certainly be useful in our everlasting fight against dissidents^Wevil. Don't mess with the US!
I believe that some P3 notebooks use "performance throttling" to conserve power. Check your BIOS, turn it off it possible, and try again. Or check the CPU while running a processor-intensive application.
As long as everyone's telling stories... my two brothers and I spent countless hours playing with Legos. One game we devised involved the Lego castle sets and a $1 plastic rifle which shot suction-cup darts. One of us would set up two dozen Lego knights and soldiers in various positions on the castle, and the other would lie prone about five feet back and shoot them off.
Sounds lame, but it was great. Man, when I think back at all of the space cruisers and pirate bases I built... wow. And when I think of all the hours wasted searching through ten billion scattered Lego pieces for that one fucking piece that would complete my latest creation... dammit, if only I ordered the red organizer in the back of the little catalog.;-)
This ia a good thing... I've played around a lot with Solaris 7 IA and Solaris 8 IA, and graphics configuration, like with GNU/Linux, can be a problem. Any mainstream ATI chipset will work fine, but things can get iffy when you have a newer nVidia card, like I do. This will definitely make future installs easier.
I wish that Number Nine was still in business. NN cards were excellently supported across all x86 UNIXes (Solaris, SCO) and workalikes (FreeBSD, GNU/Linux)... a pity.
Hopefully these new drivers will enable me to put Solaris on this tiny little Compaq bnox we have at work, with Intel 3D graphics.
The next things they need to work on are networking and IDE storage. Networking... well, unless you have an Intel or high-end 3com NIC, you're likely SOL. And I've yet to find an ATA/66 or ATA/100 chip from Promise (or even High-whatever, those bastards) that Solaris will detect.
That reminds me of something from The Cuckoo's Egg, where a programmer in Russia was telecommuting to some computers run by a defense contractor in the same area of Virginia.:-)
Windows NT will be ready. Windows NT was the first network operating system to support IPv6, and also includes support for the next-generation MSIPv8, also known as Microsoft IP 2004. MSIPv8 enhances the usability and managabilty of the Internet Protocal through versitile.NET servives and intuitive Web-enabled application diversification.
We're living in a wired world, and Windows NT provides the computing tools that we need to do ebusiness, as well as iPlay. Remember, Microsoft Windows NT: it doesn't get any better than this!
Foolie. You're missing out on the innovative communications extensions only found in Microsoft Exchnage Server, such as the Fuck Calendar. The Fuck Calendar allows your boss to see all of your meetings and shit. I fucking hate it. That's why I call it Fuck Calendar.
Oh, and Exchange's Assrape Notes. They're completely useless. They're just annoying, like assrape.
And don't forget the Retard Journal! It's fucking retarded!
This is what SUNs do best. On an Enterprise box, you can add and remove CPUs and RAM modules while the machine is running. Very few shops need this kind of uptime, but having seen it done, I can say that it's very impressive.
At the other end of the scale, we have the PC. I once killed a CD-ROM by trying to connect the IDE power while the machine was on.:-)
I have one of these machines... it makes a great little development server. You're right; I could have built a faster x86 box for less... and indeed I have in the past. So why did I buy the Blade 100?

(The postercomment compression filter is stupid. How did Taco ever graduate?)

Yes, your post was rather brainless. Please try again.

Electric vibrating donkey dildo... no, wait, I think that may be RAM.
You are correct... and I was thinking that I as I hit submit, too. Was it east or west? (That was before reunification.)
