I appreciate this has some merit, I mean history is great and all.
But is this really worth the amount of money that's being spent on it? I'm sure there are better things to do with that money, even if it would be to buy a new chair for everyone in the office.
I suppose if i were going to be even more paranoid, this is complete BS, designed just to make themselves look better, and generate more income for themselves, completely apart from any merit that it may have. More media getting everyone to trust them, feed them their opinions.
I can't see how anyone could approve of this, much less endorse it as people here seem to be doing.
prove it
if you can come up with proof that your interpretation as a metaphor, and what that metaphor stands for, is correct, i will lick your boots
and if you can't, how bout you lose the inferiority complex, neh?
a link like that can commonly be a case of "self-medication" where the person who is depressed takes various drugs to affect their current state of mind.
this is also the reason of the link between depression and other drugs, say pot, LSD, and things like that.
hacking is what? a healthy interest in technology, making it suit yourself, having your needs met with it (not always as with the iBrator, but you get the point).
the fact that once people have done something an idiot sysadmin/parent/figure of authority didn't want them to do, but allowed because of incompetence, this is no reason for degradation of any form. to seperate the terms hacking and cracking just basically sucks and shows your complete ignorance of all things hackworthy.
hacking is not leashed into just turning out a cool piece of code, but understanding what's going on. i don't believe that this kid putting random chars in the adress is either, since he seemed to fail to recognize the significance of the trailing '.'.
besides, cracking is getting free software, the term was already taken, find a different one if you're going to slander people who have the ability to understand technology more than you.
if you suck at protecting your box, and some "script kiddy" (feel derisive tone) can break in, it's your fault.
on the other hand, even without these anonymous protocols, real hackers (yes i meant it in the breaking security sense, and i'll break the fingers of anyone who quibbles here) can get in your box. sorry. if you can't deal with that, take your box off the net.
constitutional rights are not the only rights that we all, as human beings have.
the bill of rights and the constitution both have been twisted to mean that anything not explicitly stated within their hallowed (note sarcasm) pages is not a right.
bullshit.
every person who is born has every right in the world open to them. people with power over them eventually erode these rights to privileges, which is just an effort to keep the masses in control. how many times have you seen in a driver's handbook "driving is a privilege, not a right"?
of course those who will flame me about this should realize that i believe it should say "driving is a responsibility as well as a right". even all ya anonymous cowards should be able to see the difference there.
i really hope you're trolling here, is all i can say
because you have no trust in your fellow man, (and probably not your self, but that's a psych course i haven't taken) freedom should not be allowed
those who say the situation is too complex, usually are just rationalizing
maybe you really wanted a pony when you were a kid, and you never got it, and POOF there goes your faith in humanity.
just because you didn't get a pony is not reason enough to believe that noone is able to live in a free world, or able to constrain themselves to the norms that you call "decent".
even at that point, who really cares what you call decent? if people want to make a mockery of the warning system, it obviously wasn't very well designed to begin with. make a better one.
are you saying it's not enough of a language to stand for the merits of that? and besides, you don't need to eliminate the ability to run on multiple platforms to be able to compile it on specific ones
I think the best way to get java really doing well would be to have compilers ported to individual platforms, as you could get rid of the speed disadvantage. Until that point, java is too slow for anything i'm using it for.
I think it's great that this avoided complete annihilation(sp?) but the fact that it's getting the publicity on slashdot probably points the cannon right at it again.
it does _not_ need to be assessed to be of any value a centralized repository of information is worthwhile in its own right personally, i think it would be worse if a grading system were introduced
you know many hardcore porn sites that advertise themselves as anything but? most of these places/want/ to be porn, so they'd go to the xxx tld, obviously
there was an entire married with children episode about this....
bud was testing a system and lost interest in april, who eventually conspired with kelly to switch the data disks so his dream girl was replaced by someone nasty
if someone's going to fight a war, it needs to be quick, it needs to be deadly, it needs to be lethal, it needs to use the maximum amount of force required. (this doesn't include weapons such as nukes, because they destroy the land for a while in the future)
if a problem is so intense it requires war, it should be fought with the greatest training and skill, and saying that wars should be low-key only ensures that no problems ever go away.
personally, i advocate physical violence as a complete last resort option, so don't flame me for that, please:-)

Really, i just need to convince supervisors i do my best work with naked women dancing around. And the beer that helps the thinking process.

i'm bored, i'll bite

protect your box.
they all deserve anonymity.

morality is fluid.
it depends on the individual.
to think that you would allow a group of people who have never met you to dictate what the consequences of not being moral is absurd.
just pointing something out....
who decides what is illegal or dangerous?
i don't care what they say if it's anyone else but myself.

i dub thee troll sort of nice troll, at the time of writing, at least one person bit

just pointless thought.

this post sorta bugs me
it does _not_ need to be assessed to be of any value
a centralized repository of information is worthwhile in its own right
personally, i think it would be worse if a grading system were introduced
the thing is, new laws did come into place as telephones and post came into large use
you know many hardcore porn sites that advertise themselves as anything but? most of these places /want/ to be porn, so they'd go to the xxx tld, obviously
i know i'm getting knocked down for this, but...
IT"S BECAUSE NOONE LIKES YOU
IT"S ALL A CONSPIRACY
etc
because you know, you can't really be a good person unless you're out on the street starving, right?
he's got a talent, he's making money off people, what's wrong with that?
i've always considered the eff a particularly successful activist stunt...
at this point in time, it's not so much about access to the information as it is the ability to find and process it. therein lies the true power.
