The government should have a monopoly on violence as it is the role of government to control weapons. Do we really want this?
Really? I'm at a loss to this statement specifically.
And no I really don't want the gov't to control all weapons (btw weapon could be knife/bat/any blunt object/etc. just saying). I know the Do we really want this was for something else, and to that, Yeah I think it's neat. Have no issue with this.
For fairness, I own 1 black powder rifle for hunting, 1 shotgun for hunting. I do have a pistol permit in NYS (pita to get in NYS and I can't carry in NYC) but no pistols.
Can't you stipulate your app only works on ICS and certain phones? I know I have 2 droid phones 3 7" tabs. 1 Samsung Galaxy original 7" and 2 chinese ainol (srsly $70 shipped from china, perfect for my kids). I've upgraded my Tab to ICS with CM, the chinese came with ICS. However, many apps won't show up in the play store when I search on the chinese tab, many do, but many don't.
So i DL on phone/Tab, use backup program, ES Explorer to stick APK on my server, and get it on the Ainol one. Never had an issue.
And why do other developers are able to have an app that works on all these diff devices fine without issue. From my cheap chinese stuff, to my expensive stuff, can't remember an App that hasn't looked fine/worked on any of them. Only 2 are hacked, my SG1 and Tab. Other 3 remain stock.
I work in Gov't, state level. EVERY SINGLE laptop is encrypted. You plug in a USB, before you can move data to it, it has to be encrypted (you can move data off to computer without encrypting). You burn CD it get's encrypted.
They just this year started encrypting desktops also.
What I don't understand is why is it not a Fed Gov't rule that every agency that has portable media (tablets/laptops/usb/etc) has to be encrypted? This should just be standard now. Esp after having 48 incidents in 3 years? WTF, after first incident they should have started working on a plan to encrypt stuff.
And MS's way of wanting say in features in future updates to android put on phones/tablets that have licensed from MS? Or having veto power over features? For things that their Patents don't even cover.
Also: Microsoft is also demanding exorbitant licensing fees for the use of Android. Indeed, shortly after Microsoft sent Barnes & Noble a proposed licensing agreement on or about January 6, 2011, Microsoft confirmed to Barnes & Noble that it was demanding licensing fees [redacted] for each NookTM and [redacted] for each Nook ColorTM. It is Barnes & Noble's understanding that these licensing fees that Microsoft demands for the use of the Android are the same, or higher, than the licensing fees that Microsoft charges for its own Windows Phone 7 -- despite the fact that Microsoft only claims ownership of only trivial and non-essential design elements in Android-based devices, as opposed to an entire operating system.
Sure we don't know those numbers, but $15 was what people were saying. At 2.25% that's around $670 per device. Last I checked xbox is cheaper then that, by alot. And I would say MS patents are more trivial then Moto's patents.
And who says that Moto hasn't offered 2.25% to everyone when they first start negotiating. If that's the case, they aren't being discriminatory.
Again, starting point, negotiate. What the Frand requires. MS/Apple skipped that part and went right to lawsuits. Apple didn't have a friendly judge in their backyard and got "unlucky".
Basically said they can't enforce the ban they won in Germany. If that's not the definition of overruling, I guess I'm confused. Sure Moto would have to put up bond to damage MS may suffer if they win.
Are you really saying that Google with Moto doesn't have a deep portfolio folder in communications?
I think you have the 2 confused. MS has barely any in the communication area from what I understand. MS is getting Android with other patents (I think 1 is the Fat 32). MS has none in the communication field. Moto has many, Moto cross licenses with many others who do, so taht 2.25% is much less for those other companies.
Since MS has none in this area and I bet Google thinks the patents MS has are software/prior art and not standard essential, Google feels OK. Now MS did get a judge in their backyard who is rulling in their favor (look at same Lawsuit between Moto/Apple in Wisconsin what happened there, and this judge saying he can overide Germany rulings).
You also say about negotiating starting High, MS didn't even negotiate, they got the letter and immediatedly went to ITC/Judge. How is that negotiating in good faith. At least the Judge in Wisconsin saw Apple's ploy for what it was. Wish this judge wasn't so MS biased.
Can you please point out to me MS patents that are critical to Google?
Um MS started this. Read up at Groklaw. Basically Moto sent a proposal around 2010 I think, I forget exactly. They wanted 2.25% (as a starting point for negotiations, esp since MS doesn't have any FRAND patents, normally companies license at a much lower rate but that lower rate is due to cross licensing of standard patents or other patents essential to the device from both sides).
MS didn't enter negotiations, they went to ITC and complained, and then alleged that Moto is not metting it's FRAND obligations. Then Moto sued in Germany. Germany ruled in their favor initially and imposed a ban. MS went to a seattle judge, who basically says he can overrule the Germany court, lifted the Ban, and says He'll set a fair and resonable price. I believe he ruled this way because his case started before the Germany case. I still think he's on Crack that he can overrule a foreign country judge, but w/e.
Now I wish this judge wasn't as biased and would be like the judge in Wisconsin. Apple did the same thing against Moto against these Frand patents. The judge in Wisconsin saw that Apple was just using the lawsuit for leverage or if didn't agree with the price the judge set, use that price as a negotiating price after the lawsuit. She dismissed with prejudice. MS is doing the same thing. Yet Seattle judge, back yard to MS, blah blah blah.
But Moto didn't start this war. They wanted to negotiate first, MS didn't want to pay/negotiated.
It's also about the Foreman bringing in other things into the Jury Room during deliberations that weren't part of the trial/judges instructions. IE the prior art must be interchangable to invalidate a patent (among other things, but to me this is a big one). Please see PJ's update at http://www.groklaw.net/article.php?story=20121109045047165
Just from my experience, i'm computer forensic investigator but not for police. However, i work with many ex cops and state police.
Few days once in a blue moon fine. But hypothetically the state police have had a bunch of these cases that I'm aware of. When I'm doing my thing if I run across CP i have to stop my investigation and turn it over to state police immediately. Am i'm not just talking about the CP you can Hash value out(known CP DL'd or w/e). Talking in my 5 years here, we've had 4 dealing with actual like abuse, personal pictures. And i don't deal with anything closely related to CP.
I'm sorry just even thinking about that/picturing it is horrifying to me anyways. If i had to see images all the time on that subject. Forget that.
Most Police departments that I'm aware of have some sort of policy regarding this. I mean you do have to investigate it, but yeah therapy is pretty much mandatory.
Not sure about swapping in and out, would have to check on that.
Well to this submitter maybe (although I was under impression original textdrive lifetime was $200 and new joyent was $500, so he says textdrive but says few hundred, not couple not sure) but to Joyent purchasers why shouldn't they get refund. Company still exists.
How have you already lost if you go to court? Small claims doesn't cost that much and can resolve many of these issues many times in your favor. I know a few people who have taken ATT/Verizon/Comcast/etc (big companies) to small claims and won over things here and there. These big companies sometimes send people and sometimes don't. You still have to argue your case to the judge either way, but since it's small claims and you rep yourself, most judges are more leniet and will let you kinda just talk out what your view is, as long as you bring backing up documentation.
I think small claims is one of the biggest tools the common person has, and should be used more. Don't know about you but $500 is worth a couple hours or less of my time. And sometimes it's the principal of the matter that even if $X isn't worth a couple hours some people still do it.
Some people may have paid the original $200 for lifetime with textdrive, but some may have paid the $500 with joyent. As Joyent still exists the $500 people have a right to refund or continued service IMO. Those with textdrive, since that no longer exists (unless something was sent by joyent stating they would honor it until their company lifetime or yours, whichever is shorter) then no you shouldn't get your $200 back.
Um Joyent still exists, textdrive no longer does. So if your $200 for lifetime with textdrive, fine company is gone. But some people paid $500 with Joynet, as long as that company exists shouldn't they either keep the lifetime or give back $500?
Ok I know that sometimes I miss things but which of those 3 offer a flat rate of $8/month to stream all content avail. Isn't amazon per show/season, same with apple. Not sure what google is offering outside youtube.
I'm generally curious. The wife and I get all our content from either netflix or sickbeard+sab+astraweb. And I only use the latter when Netflix doesn't carry it, cause I try to support legal options for streaming. Also is my roku/bluray going to support these other options? (I know roku does have amazon)
(Oh I do use the latter to DL the 720p versions of the DVD's I already own cause I'm not rebuying at same price (charge me $2-$4 I probably would) for the better quality (don't have a 1080p TV my 50"/32" have been fine past 5 years and plan to get many more))
Since he got 999,999.99, no he must not be joking. Some of those games are so rare, worth in the 1.5k range. I'm not surprised he got a mil for it. Since he was taking bids, his number must have been right around 1mil and decided to end it and get his cash.
To be fair, AFAIK the extension for MP3's sends you to a website (or 2) that auto puts in the URL for you. At least the chrome one. Now it will still let you DL the direct mp4/flv in various formats.
TBH I've written a playon script that will pull the direct file, which creates a better viewing experience in playon from youtube. So maybe this keeps my wife from easily converting video's to MP3's, but all I have to do is create another script that will pull it and convert it. Granted my linux servers are in the basement, and I know it's very easy on linux, but can't be that difficult on windows either once you get the physical mp4/flv file.
I don't know the connection. The experiences/seeing things has tipped me on the side of a Creator. The bible when I study it preaches a lot of truth to me, and when the Savior of the faith says the 2 greatest commandments are love God with everything and treat your neighbor as yourself, i mean even if your not religious the world would do a lot better if more people followed the 2nd. So my point is I believe in the Christian God.
From that stand point, Moses says God created everything, so the logical conclusion is he started the Big Band (and maybe throughout the ages, tweaked things here and there, like gave Humans souls as he saw our evolution had reached a point to commune with Him and have that relationship he wanted from free will, but that's just conjecture he may not have tweaked anything, who knows).
I see what your saying, since at this point in time, nothing can conclusively say what started the Big Bang (if as you say it needs a cause, still don't understand how it wouldn't TBH), you don't believe in any of the theories. I get that.
TY for responding helped me understand what you were saying.
Just curious if you don't believe God started it, and it doesn't imply you believe that that it started in some other fashion, what does it imply then.
I mean if God didn't start it, doesn't it have to be started by some other fashion by just normal logic?
I do question, in fact went many years not believing because I couldn't accept a young earth view.
But how the universe actually began are theories there is no proof either way. There is significant evidence to suggest the big bang (or at least the theory allows to encompass all that we see/prove today without falling apart), however I can point to that and say that God start it, or you can point and say it just started.
I'm not sure science will every prove that there wasn't or was a creator that started the big bang.
So yes my faith does believe in something without concrete proof, but like I've said there are many things that tip me towards a God. I've seen people healed after being annointed prayed over by the elders that was supposedly uncurable, i've seen other things that support something beyond our comprehension. And with that said, and myself being tipped towards a God, I'm not sure that's self centered.
You could say that people believe that the big bang "just started" without intervention is by faith, since sure there's a theory but can't be proved (at least at this time anyways).
But I'm sure you'll attack all that or dismiss it. Which is fine. I'm comfortable with my beliefs to understand not everyone is going to believe or believe something different, and as free human beings that is your right. We all make choices in life about many things, this is one that I've made a choice to believe.
I don't understand why creationist must attack scientific facts. See I believe God created everything, I don't believe in a young earth. I believe that God created everything and set up the scientific principals that guide our lives (like Physics) so that we may understand his creation. If things didn't make sense and line up with science, I think this would cause more chaos then anything.
My pastor just preached on Genesis and I think made a good point (I was ready to walk out TBH is he was going to talk about young earth and stuff like that), he didn't protray Genesis 1 as a How/When but more of a Who/Why. Why we were created and who did it.
Also I think many people need to realize we are interpretting a book from an ancient language with only about what 1000 words (ancient hebrew) in it, to languages like English with Millions. God is about Faith. There is not enough evidence to prove nor disprove the existence of God. But things in my life and in nature make me have faith. But that's just me.
I get why people attack Christians/Creationalist. Many are bigots, don't listen, do what I say not what I do, ignore evidence, refuse to listen to anything but agree'ing vewpoints, etc etc etc. But I'm not sure I would call many of them Christians to begin with. If more people who claimed to be Christian followed the 2 greatest commandments (first Love God with everything, 2nd Love neighbor as thyself) we might have a better reputation in the world.

So:
1. Start company
2. Sell lifetimes at $500

4. offer 1/2 refund
5. Profit?

It's not an issue, I know ways around it, just found it ironic.
