Pointing out ubiquitous occurrences & blaming them on culture, perhaps you are an asshole. No, wait, there is no "perhaps" in this case. All humans (AFAIK) are capable of conjecture; being American has nothing to do with it.
> I knew mother nature would come up with a solution first:)
Even better: "MN" came up with that cure hundreds of years before (at least 100s, maybe 1000s) it was recognized in humans (or anywhere, for that matter).
Yeah, I was thinking of that too, since it came up in another recent topic. I believe it's a bad idea too, but if you are already nearing death & other alternatives have failed, why not. If nothing else, I imagine you are unconcious when it happens, so you are dead without last-minute pain, cured & able to be treated for the other problems that have come up, or maybe you'll be cured & have a nice tan... on all your internal organs.
You can bet that if someone in the president's family acquired HIV, tons of money would suddenly be appropriated for research. And I don't mean just this president, any president on "either side."
The Commies are the reds... Unless you're a Democrat, then you're a pinko commie -- slight difference. But anyway, that's, like, so 80's... totally. These days, you're either with "us," or you're a terrorist, not a commie. We've seen the error of our ways, not all commies are intrinsically bad. So we'll kill all the Arabs instead! How could we not have seen it before?!?! (Before what? The crusades?)
> Lets suppose a company that chrome plates parts for cars creates a toxic waste
I prefer the speeding analogy because toxic waste can cause serious health problems and directly affects those that do not know it exists. Howard Stern makes some people 'sick,' but he has no known long-term effects, except maybe desensitizing your mind to certain topics. And you have to know he's there to be affected. Speeding, by itself, doesn't harm anyone.
> It also doesn't mean they are censoring anything either.
Ummm... Yes, actually, it does. The FCC is a government agency that tells members of the general public what they can & cannot say. I guess you could claim it technically isn't since it isn't "after the fact," but I guess it would be Pre-Emptive censorship.
> I can't imagine why anyone would listen to that crap.
I set my alarm radio to that crap so I'm sure to get up quickly, run across the room in the cold to turn it off -- viola, awake. Then I just need to calm down from whatever stupid crap I heard them say during the 5 seconds it's on.
Is OK. I'm rude all the time. Sometimes it's hard not to be when you see what seems to be (and many times, is) ignorace laid out right in front of you. Sometimes it is, sometimes it's misinterpretation, but it's usually fun either way.:)
> you aren't going to be making R&R [with a string quartet]
You seem to misunderstand what I meant. Sure, there is a ton of stuff that will fall completely under the general rock & roll category and even more that will not. What I meant is that they are abstract things, not explicit categories. Crossing genres is constant and makes any attempts at categorization difficult, to say the least.
> are you like 14, BTW, because my lawyer asks that I not engage in comments with those under 18
That's a great way to try convincing someone you are right -- insult them. While I am not much older than that (27), I do have some musical training and am not completely ignorant wrt music & music theory. Out of curiosity, does your lawyer often dictate who you may and may not converse with? I'm guessing that was a joke, but you never know these days...
> I am annoyed at pseudorebelious youth that have no clue about what I'm talking about and want to, like man, tell me, dude, there isn't, like, any faking it, I swear, because its music or ain't.
I am pseudorebellious, I guess, but I'm not the "like, dude" kind -- at least I usually have some reasoning behind my stance and not just "it's the man" crap. If it has notes (and usally rhythm), it's music. When I said "you either make music or you don't" I did not mean to imply that I am the judge of what music is. What that sentence does mean is that if you either make music in some form or another, or you don't make any music at all & do not attempt to. It was a very broad statement.
> If you say you are playing guitar and you are playing a sample -- its fake.
Well, it's not necessarily fake, but it's lieing. I believe that's what you meant, though. Oh, and it's probably illegal somehow, but I don't know enough about laws/precedent on using samples to know for sure.
> you are an idiot aren't you
No, are you? I don't think so, but your reading comprehension is being called into question (see how easy it is to make up stupid insults?). I'm going to guess that you aren't too much older (if at all), since you seem to think Ad-Hominems are useful debating techniques.
> As for telling someone they don't have the right [...] Do you think I was requiring licenses or permits to make music?
You are the one that said someone doesn't have the right to do play rock & roll if they didn't know how it was recorded. That was the ONLY thing I claimed was wrong with your post, but you seem to think I was insulting you or your post in general. If that's the impression you got, I am sorry, but you are mistaken. I agreed with the majority of what you said. I don't want to admit it since you attacked me, but I do agree with it nonetheless.
Obviously, you are not a smoker, nor have you ever been. If it's exactly three cigarettes every day, it is probably a habit, not an addiction. There is a fine difference.
Cigarettes can be smoked without becoming addicted to them because people like the feeling they get from it, whether it be a buzz or just slight relaxation. A better sign of addiction is when someone still smokes when it doesn't really affect them that much any more (like myself, admittedly).
My brother used to keep a pack of cigarettes in his car because he did TONS of driving, a lot at night, and a cigarette would help him stay alert. He might have smoked one or two a day, but as soon as he quit driving so much at night, he had no problems just throwing the remainder of the pack away. That is not a sign of addiction.
Sure, it's anecdotal evidence, but you said "no reason" and right there is a reason.
That's interesting. Do you know why? Is it something about the "quality" (I don't mean good or bad, just the way your voice sounds) of your voice? Are you a bass? There's a fish joke in there somewhere...
I agree, and thought that's what he meant. Now, I'm not so sure. Also, just to point out, he had said "everything else being equal," so unless both were idiots, it doesn't matter too much.
That's funny and scary. Just glad it didn't happen in the U.S. Good thing Americans don't pay attention to the newspapers, or else that might have happened here!:)
> omehow I've never hear their [rednecks] social experience given this kind of consideration
Ever heard the term "Appalachian?" Doesn't cover all rednecks, but it sure gets a lot of them. I hear all about the "Appalachian Lifestyle" and other such crap. Maybe it's just because I'm close to that area.
> No incidents of tourist theft were reported,
Don't know about where you live, but 'round these parts we want to get RID of tourists, not steal them!
Pointing out ubiquitous occurrences & blaming them on culture, perhaps you are an asshole. No, wait, there is no "perhaps" in this case. All humans (AFAIK) are capable of conjecture; being American has nothing to do with it.

> So is there any proof any of these mutant genes are directly relevent for HIV immunity? How do they test that?
No, they see that a woman slept with an HIV-infected person twice a week for a few years, but is still not infected, & took a "wild guess."
> Knowing the danger is not enough
Yeah, you also have to be responsible.
> second world is moon
Psh, what is this, the 1200s? How Earth-centric. It's more PC these days to call Earth the "third world." The first is, of course, Mercury.
Sweet, I'm safe!!!
> Don't forget whose camp the movie/tv media is firmly in
The Politicians' Camp. Just about all of them, on both "sides."
> ask the cable channels the FCC is now illegally enforcing into their jurisdictional scope.
Ask Comedy Central if the FCC has forced them to stop showing the South Park movie uncut (albeit at 1AM).

Unlike Stern, who isn't fat...

There was a hidden post (-1 score, Troll-moderated) between that he was referencing wrt racism, I believe.
