Is that like SLI? Can we get 2 or 3 Bushes in tandem for increased governing power?

  4. I'm not sure if you read the summary, but protestors lit a number of construction vehicles on fire, causing $2.5 million in damage.

IMO, once you start setting things on fire and breaking shit, you should be referred to as a "rioter", not a "protester". I'm not sure where the line is on that one, but a lot of recent "protests" have crossed it and no one seems to say anything about it.

  5. I am very skeptical of snopes' conclusions on this one.

They reached no conclusion: the page says "Unproven", not "False". If they want to know if a police force is using an unlikely resource, who else can they contact but that police force? It's improbable that there ARE any other reliable sources.

Umm... we did, and it's currently called "The Internet". It just made sense to let other countries use it too.

  9. Yes, they can call a radiologist to come on-site or transfer them to another hospital, but both of those delay patient care.

  10. Knocking out their internet would not put anybody at risk whatsoever and the hacker knew this.

In this case it might not have, but in other places it could. For example, many hospitals don't hire Radiologists, but instead contract out to private groups. They will very often read the images remotely part or full-time, and if the hospital's Internet access is down, the images cannot be read. Emergency situations can often require radiological services.

  11. Anyone can write a blog or post a Youtube video, and then send the link to some friends. After that, if the meme fails to spread, then you likely didn't explain your point very well, or you didn't have much of a point to make.

Not everyone has mastered the art of making a persuasive argument, even if they are on the morally-correct side of the debate. He used the tools he had at his disposal. (Note that this is not meant as support of the appropriateness of the methods used).

  12. No, but the state (a judge) can reassign custody to the hospital based on evidence the hospital provides, which I think is what happened here.

  13. tell that to the on duty cop evey hospital has

In case anyone actually thinks this is true, it's not. Cops are not automatically stationed at hospitals (some, maybe), though most should have at least on-site contracted security.

There is a reason Oracle have been able to get away with so much shit without killing either themselves or Java.

Because so many software companies created large projects in Java and can't afford to (or simply won't) spend the resources to convert those projects to something better.

  15. I rather like an application that is the same everywhere, on Mac, Win and Linux, and I don't have to learn the nuances of a new system.

That absolutely makes sense for people who use multiple operating systems regularly and rely heavily on one application across those platforms.

Most people, however, use just one operating system and are used to how the OS works, not a specific application. For them, making them adapt to a different interface every time they run just one specific application is counterproductive.

Sure, but you need a REALLY long power cord to stay connected for very long at that speed.

  18. Actually, that's not what was addressed: the study said the car's driving range was sufficient for 87% of people, which is perfectly reasonable. Neither the article nor the study's abstract mentioned charging availability at all, except the article said that it was "cited as [a] drawback". I can't say whether the study's text addressed that because I'm not going to spend $30 just to read it.

  19. If you're going to break down the concept of color by referring only to frequencies, then "monochrome" is meaningless anyway and you are just as wrong in your attempted pedantry. Color is defined by the frequencies we perceive with our eyes and our brain interprets. If those frequencies exist and are recognized, then color "exists". You might as well say that sound doesn't really exist because it's just a pressure wave and our mind interprets the impulses coming from our ears. You can argue it's true, but only by attempting to invalidate the basic meaning of the word you are trying to discredit.

Chickens don't really exist: your eyes just interpret a combination of molecules and electricity interacting in very complex ways.

  20. Not that I agree with this position, but the next argument in the chain is "Immigration laws are preventing the free flow of competitive workers."

  21. Maybe because if Putin is assassinated, it only empowers someone even worse to stroll up and say "see, this is why we need to be even stronger and more secure". Maybe. I'm not an expert.
