> harvesting stem cells from human embryos is like growing rhinos to harvest their horns
No, it's more like taking a Rhino Embryo and just "growing a horn" from those cells. We aren't "growing" humans to take their stem cells. 'Cuz after they have grown, they haven't GOT any stem cells.
> And incidentally, being smart *will* get you laid, eventually
I'm calling bullshit on this, as it's either a boldfaced lie or naive crap. Being smart does nothing to help you "get laid." I'm relatively smart (I'm not genius, but I can use a computer, unlike 90% of the people I work with) and it hasn't helped me one bit. If you are already slightly attractive, then being smart will help. I am, unfortunately, not attractive at all, and therefore being smart just makes me look like an asshole instead of looking bright and witty.
> I for one feed myself and pay for my car by keeping telemarketers on the phones.
Is this a joke or something? 'Cuz I don't get it. How would you make money be talking on the phone? (telemarketers, Helpdesk, & Sex lines don't count, but they all rely on "fucking idiots" in some way.)
> Of course, the OCAA is a long time supporter of the War on (some) Drugs.
Of course! It drives down supply, increasing demand on the limited supply, increasing prices. Thus making it more expensive for me.. err, I mean those nasty, horrible, heathenous drug users (naughty, naughty people that they are:).
> ISPs usually keep track of who is using an IP at what time. Having a dynamic IP won't help much.
I understand that yes, some of them keeop logs like that, but I was simply pointing out that the license plate analogy was bad. I'm not stupid enough to think DHCP is a security app.:)
> all they have is the licence plate. how will they prove it was me?
Yeah, assuming that license plate could be on one of 10 million different cars at any given time. That license plate is used for a few hours then put back into storage until another car wants to use that road.
> No, it doesn't. There's one less person who's going to buy it.
Unless, of course, that person never would have bought it anyway, which, 99 times out of 100, is true. But after having the album, they may go see the band live, which they were less likely to do before downloading the songs.
If anyone truly believes that every single download, or even above 90% of them resulted in the lack of a CD sale that otherwise wold have taken place, they are truly stupid or terribly naive.
> I swear, if I ever get signed to a label I want to make sure in my contract it says the RIAA have no rights to sue over anyone downloading my music!
Don't expect to get that contract with the RIAA. They give you a take-it or leave-it, and it will pretty much say that they have the right to do whatever they want regarding the music you make for them.
> "Why anyone would want to come and listen to us playing an inferior live version is beyond me"
So no one should go see a Symphony, as any song they are likely to hear has been recorded before, probably by a more talented group.
If a band can't play their music live, then they aren't talented enough. I used to like Red Hot Chili Peppers (amazing that I admit it) until I heard them live once. The band is really good, but Anthony Kedis sucks ass, and now that I know what he really sounds like, I can only hear that when I listen to their albums.
The bottom line: if they can't play their music outside of a studio, they aren't good musicians. They are then only good songwriters, and as such should realize this.
> freaking biohazard sign. [...] might make my CPU go nuclear.
There's actually not much point in saying this, but biohazard and nuclear are twoo entirely different things. While Biohazard & Nuclear warning signs are similar in that they are both three-sided and three-pointed in the middle, the similarity ends just about there.
> I'm going to take a guess and say you failed moral philosophy
What a joke. "Moral Philosophy" as a class is absolutely ridiculous, because, despite what a textbook will tell you, different people have different moral sets. To try to teach this in a school is paramount to an attempt at brainwashing.
The ends, in many cases, DO justify the means. Justification is NOT the same as being proven right, it's a good excuse. In this case, in many peoples' opinions (and not necessarily mine, although I recognize that others have this opinion), it is justification.
This train of thought brings me to an interesting point. Why am I even replying to this, the original was a troll, and I'm just feeding him. Maybe because, just like everyone else here, I like to make a point. And I have failed miserably. Good day.
> "Legality and morality are not synonymous"
> Sez who?
IHBT, but sez anyone who has a fucking brain (and uses it).
> harvesting stem cells from human embryos is like growing rhinos to harvest their horns
No, it's more like taking a Rhino Embryo and just "growing a horn" from those cells. We aren't "growing" humans to take their stem cells. 'Cuz after they have grown, they haven't GOT any stem cells.

Latin? Hell, ask him about KLINGON!

Sure they could -- doesn't mean I'm going to pay them for it.

Isn't that entrapment, i.e., illegal
?

I think that is a very important distinction that most people either ignore, or are unaware of,

Don't forget Microsoft. They stand to make money off of it, so they want to make it an issue.
I know this sounds like an anti-MS knee-jerk, but it's not intended to be.

Aha, I knew something was wrong when the premise of the article was 180 degrees from reality.

Well, the ones who download illegal things, yes. But calling _ALL_ filesharers pirates is a flat-out lie.

If I was that easy, I'd post a whole lot more. But of course, you haven't got a clue what you're talking about. Ever.

Insightful, my ass. The two are not equal, nor mutually inclusive. Occupation can be liberation or conquering, you're just a troll.
