Also, there were test to build gaz storage in Kazakhstan, and for mining in Siberia. It has been done - probably Chinese just bought off those russian experts..

    As I already mentioned here - it makes absolutely no sense for NSA to release something that has a backdoor - there are many more, more efficient ways to spy domestically, while giving other countries a potential way to spy on american business. NSA are no gods - I know many people with Ph.D.s in math and cryptography from the best program around - I seriously doubt NSA have better brains than them and did not lose them to start-ups - and they are no gods. If NSA could find a weakness within a year - I will you a farm Russian or China hacks will find it out soon, if not yesterday..

    ..people working for government are no gods. They understand very well that if for any reason they discovered a weakness in the algorythm, they may very well expect somebody (probably some whiz kids in ex-KGB lab) will find it out as well. They have no interest to offer a weak algorythm for a standard - well, if they do, they are dumber than I thought.. To spy on us there are many more methods than an encryption backdoor.

    Hmm.. I am on H1B, and I would not call myself cheap labor.. You would not either.. Also considering that U.S. taxpayers paid about 500K for my Ph.D. training over 6 years (tuition, salary, overhead expenses) well yeah it makes perfect sense to send me to find a job somewhere in Europe (I have heard Germany is in need for good "cheap" labor... ;)

    I would bet if they could charge less, they would not. The whole deal was nobody could ramp up yields for Rambus to be able to lower the price. No matter what the volume... Did you short your Rambus stock today? (if you ask me - I did not.. :(

    Soft references are cool indeed, and I use it, but for one my project it was incurring a bad performance hit. Did not bother to figure out and went for JNI. We needed Java only for GUI anyway then... GC is cool until it fucks you up bad...

    WTF? Objects will only be collected if they're unreachable, and if they're unreachable, what do you want them hanging around for?

    You will be surprised. Ever had any "finalize" hacks around? When you memory consumption is critical, knowing what gc is doing is rather important.

    Cause we are looking for a single eqution for all forces. Simplicity is cool. We know now how to get elecroweak and strong interaction together. (Well, almost) Gravity is sort of an oddball... Why? There is nothing requiring that it should not be, but experience of physics research shows that reducing the number of assumption is generally a good direction to probe for..

    It is too weak compared to other forces, that's it. Got physicist worried - why such a gap. Now they think it is splenty strong maybe, but its field line are spread out of our "brane" (that a term), so we do not feel it. SHould be important result if proven..
