You Cannot Give This To Kids!
Pesce says that Sega took the test results and buried them. Fearing lawsuits and consumer backlash over health risks, the VR Headset never made it to market and neither did the truth about the dangers of prolonged exposure to 3D virtual environments - until now.
The results of SRI's research have been published and there is an unclassified document from the defense department of Australia that says there are a variety of "...unintended psychophysiological side effects of participation in (3D) virtual environments."
All that took was one google search for "3d tv danger". I'm sure experience with the actual devices would yield more "headaches" and other disorientation, which a parent takes as serious coming from the kiddos.
There is absolutely no encryption going on with your WoW account, let alone something as complex as RSA Encryption.
Your authentication verification is encrypted. This is exactly how, for example, most web-based auth systems (ie, try logging into mail.yahoo.com or battle.net, you'll see https) work... your actual content may be unencrypted but the auth validation should at least be secured.
If not, a simple Man in the Middle would compromise any account leading to mass item thefts and account hijacking.
It's like you have some bizarre version of Turrets Syndrome where instead of screaming obscenities you blurt out an endless stream of Microsoft marketing talking points.
Thank you for the good answer. BTW my hp has a rather decent keyboard, I prefer to use it for large amounts of typing over my desktop. The only thing I wish it did have was backlit keys.. which I hear MACs have.
One thing I've yet to find in any Windows/PC laptop is a decent touchpad or trackpoint... I'm not a fan of lugging a mouse with me when I'm running to a meeting or on the couch at home.
Every single trackpoint (my favorite input device until I got a Macbook) has a "ghost movement" issue (less these days, but still a major issue). Every windows-based touchpad (especially in cheap laptops/netbooks) is close to unusable due to false touches (ie, hand resting on pad). My Macbook (and later MB Pro) had the first really usable touchpad I ever used... I instantly became a convert... I'm pretty sure that Apple took what they did with their iPod clickwheel/pad took it to their laptops touchpads, and then made it into multitouch on their iPhone (which is the gold standard for mobile touch these days).
Exactly what makes this hardware any better then a regular pcs hardware. Lets ignore things like keybards and trackpads.. Im interested in the CPU, motherboard, RAM, video card, etc.
If you're ignoring the major interfaces to your device, then you're not Apple's target market. As you can tell by their quarterly earnings, it's clear they're moving towards mobile (laptops/tablets/iPod/iPhone) away from desktops as their revenues show.
If you don't appreciate design and interface, then by all means, I recommend you to use Linux (it's quite mature and usable these days for desktops/servers) and/or Windows (if you must have games).
For those of us who want a nice laptop (where things like trackpad and keyboard usability matter a LOT), Apple has the best kit in town, even if you want to run Windows/Linux.
More like, individuals pursuing their own goals will do a better job of allocating resources than a pack of bureaucrats trying to manage the economy.
You know it'd be a lot easier to take these libertarian ideals seriously if our country weren't already funding oil exploration and coal mining out the wazoo with subsidies and land usage grants, and also if the total cost (ie, all externalities included like pollution, deforestation, property value declines) were included on the bill.
The problem is that they aren't. Oil companies own the government (continued even in this supposedly liberal administration), and unless you convince me they're leaving DC, I sure as hell won't support any "getting government off my back" bullshit, because that just leaves a power vacuum for big business.
Big Business is as big (if not bigger) a threat to people's freedom as Big Government.
For example if I drag the Windows tab bar to the left ("zip"), it creates a mess. It's taking up FAR more room on the left than it did on the bottom.
This is a Microsoft Windows problem. The Mac OSX dock works great on the left.. it uses icons and no text (rollovers are good enough), in fact, I'd say it's more usable than on the bottom (leaving aside poorly coded apps that don't take the dock's position into account when resizing.. but bettertouchtool and cinch fix that).
My current work setup involves OSX on 2x 16:10 ratio monitors, one with the OSX Dock on the left and the other with Windows XP (VMWare Fusion in Unity mode) and the windows Task bar on the right (taking up slight more space).
As long as the vague Underrated/Overrated mods are available (and AFAICT these mods never come up for Meta-moderation), the puritans and other agenda-pushers can moderate without proper cause.
You know, just to check I went back over my last 100 or so posts here and found that only 10% of mods done to my posts (of those that were modded) were over/under rated. I don't see this as a pernicious problem.
Of all the sites I've visited, Slashdot (and perhaps Kuro5hin) has the best system.
The system used by Kuro5hin (scoop) is used by many other sites including political popular sites like DailyKos and RedState.
Personally, I think Slashdot is better, but it's more developed and nuanced... the moderation qualification (ie, Funny, Insightful, Troll, etc) is what makes a huge difference in avoiding the puritans downmodding sarcasm and/or unpopular but useful posts.
They're both scams. Scams by the rich and established powers to prevent their apple-cart from ever getting upset. They are both extremely vulnerable and the respective lynchpins of critical parts of a developed country: the marketplace is the lifeblood of the capitalism, and voting is the core of democracy.
I used to be sure we lived in a capitalist democracy. Now I'm no longer sure. With the front-running and voting scandals, with enough "people being taking out of the loop", how do we know what's real anymore?
Oh, what's that you say, the corporate-controlled media will tell me all about it?
We're on the precipice of a potentially dark and troublesome time.
Amazon (as opposed to clowns like Verizon) can really bring something to the App market in Android. Amazon know how to sell, distribute, manage payments, provide segmented and curated web fronts, and have a decent forum/review mechanism (including at least one level of meta-review, "real-name", etc).
Google is an awesome company but they have really bungled the social aspect with quite a few of their services (probably because they fear to assume the big-brother role that Facebook and Amazon don't mind adopting -- being seen as all-powerful would impact their image heavily)... look at YouTube - just a little bit of curation or moderation of comments would make it a much more sticky and keep folks within the youtube. People desperately want to interact, despite the absolutely inept moderation capabilities, there exist a few gems in the comments.
Google should either be scared or delighted... if Amazon can execute similar to their web and Kindle efforts, they will quickly dominate the AndroidMarket market.
Basically a unaccounted for benefit or cost. The role of government is to see things like this that the market cannot account for and be sure to tax or regulate according to the cost.
This is exactly the definition of "Unbridled" Capitalism (ie, free from the government "bridle). I agree with you that it's in the common interest that capitalism is regulated, and the government is the best tool for that job.
Our major problem isn't with the people who are brainwashed into "free markets == victory" mantra, but the brainwashers (ie, the corporate controlled media) and the money that pays everything and everyone to buy into that flawed concept.
The wealthy and corporate elite are the ultimate villains here, they will do what they did to other countries where they strip-mined the land, put the people into slave labor, in the name of pure profits.
We in the US/EU ignored it then because we benefited from it, but now it's coming back to bite us because these multinational corporations and their controlling funders are now more powerful than governments and have quite a few in their pockets. World domination won't come through the flawed UN, but instead through the "invisible hand" that controls and dominates numerous governments across the globe into doing it's bidding.
Android is free, and companies like RIM probably will license for less... so what benefit does Microsoft have in terms of actual technology? Probably little to none.
So they decide they're going to go patent-troll on manufacturers like HTC who produce both WinMo and Android phones, claiming the Android infringes on their IP... notice they didn't do this with any other manufacturer like Motorola, just HTC (who created the Nexus One). Funny that.
I see this working out really well for them (not).
Dane-geld today is what're called Monopoly Rents. Corporations that seek this kind of payment are rent-seeking (as opposed to profit-seeking, meaning to gain profits by value-add).
However, it would be a disaster if they [Apple] were the predominant force in the industry.
It's a bad thing when ANY company is predominant in an area... that's why we have anti-trust regulators and believe in free markets, as they tend to reduce prices and increase innovation for everyone. Apple is not special here.
How much leverage does Graber have to go after this blatantly unjust perversion of police powers?
I would donate to such a cause... these proto-fascists need to be put in their place...
just the other day, a cop car pulled out wildly ahead of another motorist, turned on his siren and lights, zoomed past a few other cars, then shut off his siren... who's to bet there was no emergency other than the cop's inflated ego?
The fact that RIM decided to release this vapor statement says more about RIM than about what we should expect the product to do... aside from the geek-inspiring stats, there was no mention of battery life or cost, which are probably more important for such a device than whether it's running a dual-core processor
I do think their recent acquisition of QNX combined with their copying the looks of WebOS are strategically wise, but so was the hype on the original "Storm" but their hardware implementation was a faceplant (Storm 2 is much better).
I wish them luck... if the Android tablets continue to be cripped by the contract required for Market access issue, they may make some headway... will be a bonus for them if Microsoft continues to stumble on the mobile front (WP7 looks promising, but MS is late to the game).
The closer the flash is to the lens the more likely it is that you get red eyes.
If you read the parent thread, you'll realize they're talking about bouncing the flash.. which negates your argument.
Now, how the hell they'll be able to get a bright enough flash (even if it's targeted to the subject dark areas) for bouncing, generated from a smartphone casing... I have no idea. That truly would be future-tech.
Bank industry FUD. Lots of credit unions offer free ATM services to members of other credit unions.
What Bank will give you back ATM fees charged by other banks 2x a month?
My current credit union (Pacific Service CU) does. I also can deposit at some bank ATM locations and all network credit union ATMs. It's nice not having to search for a Wells Fargo or WAMU ATM.
That still doesn't mean it's the perfect game and there can never be a better game.
I seriously hope to god you're not grading papers at an educational institution. If grades were based on all past and all future possibilities, no one would ever get an A, let alone an A+.
Fact is, your understanding of the meaning of a grading scale is impossible to implement and not very useful to boot. Grades are subjective... when you're comparing to an infinite space (ie, all future games), you're attenuating your scale and making the edge number meaningless. Like the opposite of "turning it up to 11", you never even dial it to 10, why have it?
All that took was one google search for "3d tv danger". I'm sure experience with the actual devices would yield more "headaches" and other disorientation, which a parent takes as serious coming from the kiddos.

Explain to me how this is better than the iPhone jail?
Time for Nokia to take a stand... I hate the name "MeeGo" but if it delivers a truly unlocked , I'm interested.

Awesome idea. You could bring in real $$ for the more famous streets (Wall St, Broadway, etc).
The Internet wonder seems to be conflicting with the Hollywood wonder in strange unpredictable ways :-)

Nice. Somebody mod parent up.
