    honestly, i'm in windows xp right now and using firefox 3.5.1 and trying to choose the Google authentication doesn't work(don't do anything) and using internet explorer 8 shows an error page telling me that browser isn't supported, well i think i'm gonna give it a try in home using ubuntu and firefox/konqueror.

    I've been listening "in 10 years we'll have X awesome technology", but time come and go and nothing has changed, so, i'll be expecting this artificial brain so i could drive my flying car(you know, that 3D driving thingie) to arrive at the entrance of the spacial elevator so i could bang some lunar chicks.

    As someone who's spanish native speaker let me tell you that "caca" in spanish means "shit", so i wonder what color gives to my graphics using that "caca" which you speak of...

    Right, i forget that you can use ftp features inside explorer(not ie), mybad, also there's a flaw in my previous post as the other AC commented: that "bin" thingie you must set before getting binary files from the net...

    Maybe this is too "geek centered", but what about:
    1. windows button
    2. run
    3. type in cmd
    4. ftp ftp.mozilla.org
    5. when asked by user name type in anonymous
    6. when asked by password just hit the enter key
    7. type in dir
    8. type in 'cd pub', without the quotes
    9. type in 'cd firefox'
    10. type in 'cd releases'
    11. type in 'cd latest'
    12. type in 'cd win32', i suppose you're in windows...
    13. type in 'cd en-US', again, i suppose you want the english US version
    14. type in 'get Firefox Setup 3.0.10.exe', thats the actual version, might differ

    i know, average joe sixpack can not even try this, but they always had his nephew/son/relative/bro' "Johnny Mc Nerdy" to type in all that "tech stuff"...

    just a few toughts:

    Don't use crappy libraries you pulled off some web forum then. Always be suspicious of third party libraries and only use the highest-quality ones.

    sorry buddy, that crappy db connection class was made by some former developer who, right now is some kind of phb, and always insist you use his "wonderful" db connection class, of course i could search and use something better, but that time constraint we always have just don't let me do it, i wish i could, but working even weekends just doesn't let me improve the things the way they are

    If you can't do either of these things, well, you have no business being a programmer.

    again, time constraint, and the single fact i'm the only developer here(you see why i have to work weekends?), plus some IT support i also had to do, so you see, is not lazyness, there's simply no time to do better or improve the actual things

    There is no excuse for SQL Injection vulnerabilities these days.

    I just wish that be truth, right now i'm using some "connection db class" in c# made by someone else, wich expects the sql commands to be executed be concatenated strings, no SqlParameters or whatsoever, no, just single and dangerous sql commands concatenateds, and there's no way in hell i could change that class for something better

    If you have an SSD, it's fine, if a little sluggish, especially the more complex designers like the Entity Framework stuff.
    On a harddrive, it's almost unusable, it just churns and churns and churns for what seems like hours. Previously, serious developers needed a big monitor and lots of RAM. Now it's a big monitor, lots of RAM, and an SSD.

    No trying to be a troll or something, but i think a ssd its a hard drive...

    For a living i've to code in .net & windows(well, there's some legacy in unix servers too but that's another story), and let me tell you: Visual Studio is awesome, i lets you develop some quick and dirty apps just easy, the intellisense feature and the forms designer are some of the best out there(yeah, i know, there's netbeans and qt designer, but francally, the netbeans designer, aka matisse has it's issues, the qt counterpart don't know much), but nothing that i know beats Vs.

    my problem with konsole is that every time i run it, it freezes to death, almost 2-3 minutes being unresponsive, thats why i use the xfce console application in kde4 when i logon in that DE, btw i run xfce/fluxbox 90% now thanks to a broken kde4.1-4.2 past experience.

    My point is: Really, how many Ubuntu-Windows Benchmark do we need? i know there's some hype about Ubuntu(yes, i know, i'm such hypocrital here), why not some (Fedora|Mandriva|Debian|Slackware|Gentoo|your-distro) - Windows Benchmark ? That way we know something about other distros and the behavior of the applications we run, that way even we can choose to try some of them

    Having a vertical CRM/order management/invoicing/everything stack is an easy sell to managers, but what they don't realize is it requires significant effort to align it with your business model.
