Wasn't meant to offend. Fat fingers is fine, but spelling speech wrong 4 or so times in a post can sometimes show a thinking error. Especially when everything else seemed to be spelled fine.
However, you see, one of our cats eats flowers whenever I get them for my wife. And putting flowers in the cuppard or on top of one of the bookshelves just isn't a very nice place to put flowers. I guess what she would really like is something to keep our cat from eating flowers.
So, would it be free speech to sign the Judge up for every mailing list and phone call list we can find?
<knee-jerk-without-reading-article>
Oh well... What seems to bother me the most is not the phone calls that I can tell someone, "don't call me!" What really bothers me is when you get like 5 phone calls a night and no one is there when you pick up. You can't tell them to remove you from the calling list if you don't get to talk to them.
I have an apartment, forget the price. Ain't never been there, they tell me its nice. I work in cubicles, tear down the walls. I have VC's pay for it all.
They say I'm a hacker, but I have a good time. (Everybody says HaX0Rs, HaX0Rs) I'm just cleaning up log files from the scene of the crime. Life been good to me so far.
My dual Athlons compile kernels in 185, I hope gentoo, is done before I die. This machine is behind the firewall in the back, So it doesn't get hacked.
I'm making software, my users can't wait. They send me email and tell me I'm late. So I got me an office, put certificates on the wall, Drop me an email, I doubt I'll really call.
I'm lucky I'm sane after all I've been through. (Everybody says Use the right tool, right tool) I like to complain, and quite often I do. But lifes been good to me so far.
I go to lan parties quite often to frag, Look out behind you, too bad you got fragged. Its tough to handle this jolt and caffine, and eat all the pizza and chips I must be mean.
They say I'm a geek, but I have a good time. (Everybody says he's weird, he's weird) I'll keep going on and I think I know why, Lifes been good to me so far...
Apologies to captredballs for the inspireation and Joe Walsh for the song to murder so freely.
Then there's Office, which, by default will turn 2-21-95 into 2/21/95. ????? I have to dig through numerous help pages to figure out what subpanel of the preferences menu will deactivate this. Worse, I enter 23 hello on a new line in Word, and hit enter, it auto indents, adds a 24 and positions the cursor after. !?!?!!?!?!?!?!!? How many times I've had to fight this particular feature I can't tell you.
Oh, that's easy. Word processors and office products are evil in general. If the world had a freaking clue, they'd know that nano or vi are all the world really needs for word processing. And don't even get me started in so-called programming ides. If there was ever a tool created by satanic haters of productivity, programming ides are it. I'm sure God is saving an especially hot coal for office product writers and programming ide makers. All of borland and corel and microsoft (other issues besides just office and visual studio here too), even kdevelop, openoffice, and all the others in kahoots with the demons of so-called assistants and wizards and productivity will be in their own little hell, hopefulyl having to use their evil products. That's serve them right!
In 11 months we'll see like 40 stories about LoTR, then a year from now, 1 more story when Oscar Nominations is posted. Then 1 more after the Oscars are given out. Then 1 more 5 years later when the uber-doober-wicked-cool-and-snazzy LoTR 5 year anniversery set comes out. Then 5 years from that, for the next 10 year anniversery, then 5 years again...
You get the point. We might as well have a 9/11 icon too. But in 5 years we'll all be wondering what is that obscure icon about?
OR we can continue to use the movie icon cause that's what its there for.
The encrypted stream could have been recorded by some sort of method or another. Then, if you applied the private key now, you could still have gotten the information that was sent before. What was in that information, who knows?
Ditto on the gentoo, infact gnucash is why I tried gentoo as slack doesn't have a gnucash package and I've spent nearly a week trying to get gnucash working under slack. I didn't even go too wild with optimizations in gentoo, so its not like my compile options obliterated it...
silver ~ % gnucash gtkhtml-ERROR **: gconf error: Failed to contact configuration server (a likely cause of this is that you have an existing configuration server (gconfd) running, but it isn't reachable from here - if you're logged in from two machines at once, you may need to enable TCP networking for ORBit) aborting... Abort
That is my gnucash session and hitting the menu help->manual. If I can't get to even the help menu I'm hosed with gnucash. I've started work on a project for myself to do budgeting and finance with a servlet setup with jakarta and postgresql database. Atleast then I know what is happening. Going through and debugging gnucash and its near infinite different libraries is not my idea of a good time.
I haven't tried 1.8.0, but if it is as stable as 1.6.8(?) I'd rather not.
Hmmm, menu option, oh, where'd gnucash go. Hmm, double click here, hmmm, where'd gnucash go? Well, maybe if I just go the the help menu, hmmm, where'd gnucash go?
Very frustrating....
Somebody better let Sun know...

Gnome 2.2 Released
·
· Score: 3, Funny
I for one, am glad my entry didn't win. Considering I submitted my entry *november 2001*. If I hadn't been released until yesterday I'd be pretty crabby. My wife would be really pissed also.
So, are there any interviews with the winners. I'd be curious where they were held and why it took so long to release them.
First, I think your idea that somehow compiling on a linux box is going to create a virus or spread a win32 virus is kind of silly. The linux box does not run win32 code that is is compiling.
Second. Sophos supports (or did as of about a year ago) a linux version of their virus software. If you really needed virus scanning its there.
What next? An art museum that paints clothes onto nude portraits and puts a toga on the statue of Venus de Milo?
If someone chooses that their child should not view it, then the parent has the option to not allow their child to see it.
There is such a thing as artistic integrity. While the proponents of this "filtering" technology love to point to schlock films with "gratuitous" violence and sex, there are truly artistic, powerful movies that need the violence and sexual content present in order to tell their story. Not all movies can be made into PG-13, kiddie-safe pablum.
Not all movies are kiddie-safe, sure. However, there might be certain movies that are acceptable that you wish for your children to see, where there are a couple scenes that were only put in to please the teenage boys to increase sales.
Heck, as an adult I even will fast forward a few scenes in movies since I'd rather not watch folks have sex on my TV. I like action movies, even corny ones such as Highlander. In most of those movies I'll fast forward the sex scenes since they do not add any story to the movie or even merge with the story at all.
Speaking of gratuitous sex, I'd rather not read postings about who you having sex with on a tech news web site.
Though you are just being an idiot here, I'll bite. You have the option of not viewing the post, "FOEing" the person who wrote the post and setting the mod for foes to -6, filtering on your machine through a proxy, or what not. That is what folks want for their DVD players. The OPTION to filter. As soon as something enters my home that I own, I should have the option to filter, change, mutilate, or alter it.
done with some versions of Netscape, GNU/Linux Kernel, IIS, Apache, etc.
Whoa there buddy, you can be GNU/RMS/PC all you want, but it is not a GNU/Linux kernel, its a linux kernel. It might be GNU/Linux system if you so desire. If you are going to make a statement that it is a GNU/Linux system, fine, but don't blunder too far there fellow.
Whether you agree with the US military action in Afghanistan or not, I'd have to say that they are doing something right. Consider the casualties we (and our allies) have sustained. Even considering our "friendly fire" losses and then consider any other war, our losses are still under our losses in two buildings that happened to cause us to be there. Are you really going to tell me that military intelligence is an oxymoron?
I'd say slashdot intelligence seems to resemble that more. On many topics slashdot is as sheep as military folks are said to be.
Wasn't meant to offend. Fat fingers is fine, but spelling speech wrong 4 or so times in a post can sometimes show a thinking error. Especially when everything else seemed to be spelled fine.
LOL, well, I guess my wife would like both, go figure. :-)
tick tock tick tock... minutes waste way until I can post again.
Not to be picky here... commercial speach is spelled commercial speech. Similar to free speech.
I would hate to have you send a message to this judge and have him think anti-spammer/telemarketers are all unliterate [sic].
I think my wife would prefer hardware to flowers.

So, basically they determine how much flesh tone in is the image that the robot is looking at. More flesh color in the image the more attractive?
Probably work for most slashdot types, eh?

Maybe wacky or something, but consider this.

Now let your conspiracy ideas run rampent.

Not exactly enforcing you through law, but definitely through little "accidents" like above.

CleverNickName have any comments about this?

Great, all the people who think X is too bloated as it is will now be crying "No Xmas!"
The battle cry of X and Christian haters world wide.

Moderations: 40% Flamebait, 20% Insightful, 30% Funny
I guess it was humorously insightful flamebait...
The other 10% was "Underrated" or "Missing"?

I'd just settle for one of my co-workers. But then, she is my wife. I guess I am successful.
I read it on TV, it must be true!
